36 Boring-But-Very-Necessary Purchases For Summer
Washable bra liners to absorb under-boob sweat before it has a chance to bleed through your shirt. Reviewers note that it does the impossible and actually makes wearing a wire bra more tolerable!
A tabletop fly fan that keeps a steady breeze going to deter bugs. Think of it as a robotic swatting hand so your guests can keep their own hands free to grab some macaroni salad.
A leakproof, portable dog water bottle with a mini dish so your pup can stay hydrated on long walks or car rides. This is way more efficient than those collapsible dishes (speaking from experience).
A rechargeable 3-in-1 hand fan that not only cools you down but also offers a flashlight and power bank. Consider this multitasker your first line of defense against the endless cruelties the summer sun hurls at you.
Anti-chafing balm because summer should be pain-free, even if you're completely set on breaking in those new jelly sandals. The vegan formula is safe for children, doesn't feel greasy, and won't clog pores. Just apply wherever you anticipate chafing and friction.
Mise En Scene Perfect Hair Serum, a K-beauty favorite that promises intense hydration and heat protection up to 450 degrees. With the help of a blend of oils (Moroccan argan, olive, jojoba, coconut, etc.), it can help repair damaged hair and reduce frizz, even in hot, humid weather. It's so effective, reviewers compare it to the $46 Gisou version.
Or a deep-conditioning hair mask promising smoother, shinier, and stronger hair, even if you're fighting against bleached, dry, or damaged locks. It can even handle Florida levels of humidity!
A Cup Claw that'll finally provide a solution to the dreaded lumpy padding dilemma. The tool removes and replaces curled cups in bras and swimsuits that have previously refused to lie flat.
A set of Flat Socks for people who can't bear the thought of wearing socks in the summer, but understand the ramifications of avoiding them. These moisture-wicking shoe inserts absorb sweat and odors so you can let your toes breathe a little.
A Burt's Bees sunburn soother crafted with aloe and coconut oil to hydrate skin and turn back time to before you stayed out in the sun a little too long. It's nongreasy and absorbs quickly, so you can go from "AHHH" to ahhhh.
And a roll of aloe wrap you can cut into the perfect shape to best cover your sunburnt body. The hydro-gel wrap is infused with aloe vera, green tea, and vitamin E to help soothe and moisturize skin and prevent excessive peeling. Just slap these forbidden Fruit Rollups on your red skin and marinate for 20-40 minutes for best results.
A set of Sea Bands for anyone still working on getting their sea legs. They apply pressure to a specific acupoint on your wrist, which many reviewers say is the key to a successful, barf-free boat trip.
Mosquito Dunks to kill mosquitoes before they're even big enough to bite you. We're playing 4D chess against pests this summer! The lil' doughnuts are made with a bacteria that's only toxic to mosquito larvae, so you don't have to worry about pets or wildlife.
A pack of mosquito-repellent incense sticks made with citronella, lemongrass, rosemary, cedarwood, and peppermint oils that banish bugs with the power of nice smells. The smoke can make your personal space a no-fly zone for up to two and a half hours.
A Japanese hori hori gardening knife sure to become the MVP of your gardening toolbox. The lightweight tool has a serrated side and straight edge, so you can dig, weed, slice roots, cut sod, and break up perennials. Deep-rooted dandelions and other summer weeds will see themselves out.
Hanni Shave Pillow, a showerless shave gel made with cactus water and glycerin for anyone who wants to shave their legs (or wherever!) but doesn't have time to jump in the shower. Apply the gel stick, shave, and the rub the remaining formula into your skin to hydrate, soothe, and protect against razor burn.
Reusable Nippies nipple covers that'll come in clutch when you want to wear a backless dress or bodysuit, but don't want your nipples to be part of the look. According to reviewers, these pasties hang on, even in hot, sweaty situations.
Or a cropped Brami with a built-in wireless bra so you'll have plenty of support without worrying about a stifling wired bra getting in the way. It's too hot for that!
Ooor a set of adjustable clip holders that'll make your bra racerback tank friendly. I don't know about you, but I'm always looking for any solution that doesn't involve a strapless bra.
A doggy sunscreen made with moisturizing aloe vera perfect for dogs with short coats or no fur at all (helloooo, Chinese cresteds and Xoloitzcuintlis). Just give them a spritz with this quick-drying and safe-to-lick spray for relief from dry and cracked skin. This doubles as an itch relief and snout soother!
A suction tool to help relieve the itchy agony of bug bites by sucking out insect venom, saliva, and other irritants under your skin. Finally, you can go outside after dark again!
A laptop tent because sun glare is the number one reason why we're not all working from beach. The reflective fabric creates a little dark room for your computer to prevent overheating and sun glare. Now you can actually see the email you're writing and not accidentally type, "Best regrads."
A screen curtain with magnetic closures that snap shut automatically, meaning you can walk out with a full plate of BBQ fixings and not have to worry about kicking the door closed behind you. One reviewer even said it helped keep a bat out! Easy installation (just use the included Velcro-like strips to attach it to the door frame) means you can enjoy seamless access to the great outdoors in no time.
A hanging LED lantern and fan hybrid you can hook to the top of your tent, because who said you can't take a ceiling fan on a camping trip? The fan has two settings and provides up to 10 mph wind speeds, so try not to be blown away by this amazing invention.
A baby beach tent with a built-in pool so you can keep your little one shaded and bring the ocean to them. Now your baby can splash to their heart's content, and you can stay shaded and cool under your own umbrella.
An adjustable, solar-powered lighted umbrella that provides protection from the dreaded sun during the day and much-needed illumination at night.
A freezable wineglass for those ultra-hot days when the wine heats up faster than you can drink it. The built-in cooling gel keeps drinks so cold, you'll be happy for the insulating band to protect your hand.
Pleated paper shades if you find that the sun is waking up way before you. This affordable solution is easy to apply (just trim, peel, stick) and comes with clips to raise or lower them.
Black Girl Sunscreen designed to specifically not leave a white cast, a common problem for like, 90% of all sunscreens. It's paraben free, fragrance free, vegan, and cruelty free, so you can feel good about stocking up.
A car windshield sunshade to keep your car from becoming hotter than the center of the earth. Please! No more scorched thighs this summer.
A Coola scalp and hair sunscreen mist that protects your noggin with SPF 30. It has the double purpose of preventing scalp sunburns (ouch) and protecting your hair from sun damage. It's water-resistant for up to 80 minutes, so feel free to jump in the ocean!
A handheld watermelon slicer ready to turn melon halves into grabbable slices in seconds flat. It works for cantaloupe and honeydew as well, meaning you'll definitely be the one to volunteer to bring the fruit at the next outdoor hang.
And a time-saving fruit and veggie divider so you can fill up the fruit salad bowl and have time left over to whip some cream as a topping. Parents love that this device is fun and safe enough for their kids to use — free sous chef!
A handy sports umbrella you can clip onto your chair for some personal shade, since it's unlikely you'll find someone to follow you around with an umbrella any time soon. Plus, the long shape is designed to ensure your whole body gets covered.
A lint remover that works on clothes, furniture, and carpets so you can reclaim your things from hair and general schmutz. You'll need this now that shredding season is in full swing.
A pair of deodorant-removing sponges because we all know the acute pain of throwing on a black tee and having to immediately take it off and dunk it in the laundry bin. Just a few swipes of a sponge can turn back time to before Degree ruined your summer look.

Heidi Klum's beauty essentials include this electric shaving kit you can buy on Amazon
Heidi Klum's beauty favorites Anti-aging serum: L'Oréal Paris Age Perfect Cell-Renewal Midnight Serum Lip treatment: Lucas' Papaw Remedies Lucas' Papaw Ointment Razor kit: PosheEra Effortless Shave Kit As a television personality and supermodel, Heidi Klum is no stranger to the spotlight or needing to be camera-ready at all times. In case you missed it, the former 'America's Got Talent' judge and returning 'Project Runway' host recently stunned at this year's Met Gala in a custom, floor-length gown. That's why the 51-year-old's recent partnership with PosheEra, a grooming brand she said is helping to make shaving on the go easier, is so fitting. As Klum explained to CNN Underscored in an exclusive interview, part of what makes the razor so great is its ability to be used at any time — a complete game changer when you're as busy as the multi-hyphenate. 'It changes the way of shaving because you can have this in the car, in your purse and you [can] pop it out and just shave,' Klum said. 'Because you can shave with it wet or dry, you can literally be lying in bed watching TV and shaving because you don't need water, you don't need cream, you don't need anything.' Ahead, we asked Klum, who is also a L'Oréal Paris ambassador, all about her other favorite beauty products, including the skin and hair care products she swears by. A post shared by Heidi Klum (@heidiklum) PosheEra Effortless Shave Kit For a smooth shave, Klum whips out her PosheEra electric razor, which can be used in or out of the shower. Its long, ergonomic handle allows you to shave your legs with ease, making it a great option for those with mobility issues. It also features a pivoting head that allows the razor to move across your body's curves without irritating the skin. To achieve a closer shave, the brand recommends using this razor with shaving cream. In addition to a three-foil shave head, the kit also includes a five-foil version, so you can pick what will work best for your needs. L'Oréal Paris Age Perfect Cell-Renewal Midnight Cream Suitable for even the most sensitive skin, the L'Oréal Paris Age Perfect Cell-Renewal Midnight Cream is a staple in Klum's beauty routine, and it's no wonder why. The lightweight, antioxidant-rich moisturizer is formulated with ingredients like shea butter and vitamin E to help firm the skin, repair the skin barrier and boost radiance. Though it can be used with other skin care products outside of the Age Perfect collection, it pairs perfectly with another one of Klum's essentials, the Age Perfect Cell-Renewal Midnight Serum. Sheila Stotts Untangle Brush Klum is also a fan of this detangling brush from Sheila Stotts. Featuring a drainage hole that allows you to expel excess water if you're using the brush in the shower, it has eleven rows of metal bristles that gently detangle hair. It also has a cushioned plastic handle that makes it comfortable to use. L'Oréal Paris Ever Pure Shampoo and Conditioner To care for her hair, Klum relies on this shampoo and conditioner duo. Specially formulated for dry or colored hair, the two products work to leave your mane soft, bouncy and shiny. We love that the rosemary formulas are made without sulfates, parabens and phthalates. We also appreciate that they have a floral and citrus fragrance that features rose, bergamot and musk. Lucas' Papaw Remedies Lucas' Papaw Ointment Klum singles out the Lucas' Papaw Lip Treatment as one of her must-have beauty products. The Australian-made, multi-purpose ointment can be used to soothe everything from cracked lips to sunburns thanks to its nourishing formula. L'Oréal Paris Age Perfect Cell-Renewal Midnight Serum When asked about her beauty essentials, Klum didn't hesitate to mention this anti-aging facial serum. Formulated with vitamin E and hyaluronic acid to minimize the appearance of wrinkles, it can be used in the morning and at night daily. Plus, it won't clog pores or feel greasy on the skin. Why Hailey Bieber's billion-dollar deal is about more than just beauty
This week, E.L.F. Beauty acquired model and mega influencer Hailey Bieber's beauty brand Rhode for $800 million in cash and stock, with another $200 million dependent on growth. Rhode, which launched just under three years ago and has just 10 products, reported net sales of $212 million at the end of March. Bieber will stay with Rhode as the chief creative officer and as a strategic adviser to both E.L.F. and Rhode. The deal shocked much of the cosmetics world. Alexis Androulakis, a beauty industry veteran and one of the creators behind @thelipsticklesbians on TikTok, posted an incredulous video reacting to the sale. 'If you had told me that Rhode would be the first to sell out of all the brands on the docket for sale right now, I would have told you you're out of your mind.' The brands she is referring to, including Glow Recipe, Makeup by Mario, and One/Size, have been in the industry longer, are selling more products and, depending on your chosen metric, are more successful. Companies up for sale aside, Rhode is far from the only beauty line fronted by a celebrity. Rhode's success is due, in equal part, to celebrity, marketing and status. From social media metrics alone, Bieber's influence is clear: some 55 million followers on Instagram and 15 million on TikTok. She is as true a celebrity as we have in 2025. She is married to a generation-defining pop star, has a gaggle of high-profile friends, stylist-curated fashion, and enough celebrity feuds and marriage issues to keep her relevant. Tarang Amin, the CEO of E.L.F. Beauty, told The New York Times that it was Bieber's influence and loyal, younger fan base that made Rhode so attractive. 'I have not seen another brand where there are communities waiting, or a pop-up event in L.A., willing to camp out overnight for 14 hours in line — not just for product, but to buy into the entire lifestyle.' It should be mentioned that Rhode — and this deal — does not exist without Glossier, which the brand emulates in aesthetic and product. Founded in 2014 by Emily Weiss, Glossier was the beauty brand of the mid-2010s. Before it emerged, makeup trends tended heavier: cut-crease eye shadow looks and high-contrast contour made popular by Kim Kardashian and YouTube tutorials. Glossier's ethos, 'skin first, makeup second,' was almost shockingly antithetical at the time. None of the limited products initially offered, like the Perfecting Skin Tint, offered full or even buildable coverage. Glossier felt both revolutionary and exclusionary enough to be aspirational. If you had acne, hyperpigmentation or rosacea, Glossier products where simply not for you. Like the 'clean girl' beauty trend, you could only be a Glossier girl if you already had perfect skin. And thanks to that concept, centering the health of your skin and your so-called 'natural beauty' is commonplace in today's beauty market, including at Rhode, which sell-defines as a skin care company. Weiss' marketing strategy, 'born from content; fueled by community,' quickly made her products status symbols as she pioneered influencer marketing. Tubes of Balm Dotcom lip balm and the pink plastic bubble pouches the products came in were intentionally displayed on brunch tablescapes and wellness posts all over Instagram. Instead of leaning into hard sells and traditional ad campaigns, Glossier centered the ever-online young woman consumer. Bieber, incredibly social media literate with a lucrative awareness of her own influence, has made quick work of elevating Rhode products to status symbols and selling, as E.L.F.'s Amin said, a lifestyle. Whereas Glossier sold an idea, Bieber can sell that and something more material: the promise that buyers might achieve even a whiff of her very aspirational life. One of her earliest examples of the power of her own influencer marketing was the Rhode Lip Case, a silicone iPhone case with a built-in slot to hold a Rhode Peptide Lip Treatment or Tint. A week or so after posting a selfie featuring the case and allowing acolytes to debate whether the phone case would ever be available to the public, it launched on the Rhode website for $38, including a lip gloss. Bieber has since posted numerous selfies with different colored glosses, all with a similar effect: sales, and lots of them. Part of the E.L.F. Beauty deal includes a partnership with Sephora, which will make this the first time Rhode products will consistently be available in stores. For beauty brands, an in at Sephora is huge — although it doesn't mean you've made it. Bieber has deliberately limited Rhode's brick-and-mortar exposure, with one of her most successful pop-ups to date her Coachella photo booth. Branded with both Rhode and Kendall Jenner's 818 Tequila logos, the booth allowed patrons to walk away with strips of well-lit photos, a small bottle of tequila and their choice of a Rhode lip product. According to Shop Drop Dail, a website that covers branded concepts, the photo booth 'quickly became one of the most talked-about experiences of the festival, generating over 2.5 million impressions on social media.' It's a true indicator of Bieber's success in employing gentle exclusivity and perceived closeness to celebrity to sell her products. I had a dermatologist friend once advise me never to use makeup or skin care by a brand that also makes handbags. I've applied the same mandate to celebrity lines. I've only ever tired Rhode's Glazing Milk, a watery pre-makeup layer that claims to provide hydration, and a swipe of a co-worker's Lip Tint. They were both fine, but I didn't buy them after that limited exposure. But even if Rhode didn't end up replacing legacy products that I've long pledged allegiance to, I am still very much aware of the brand. That is what is most remarkable. Bieber should be commended, not for Rhode's products, but for her ability to capture the zeitgeist, burst through a deeply saturated market, and surpass even other celebrity-fronted brands. I'm open to Rhode, but for now, I'll probably stick with what I've got. This article was originally published on
