The second-seeded Growling Tigers pulled off an 82-73 win against the Generals to make the FilOil Final Four for the first time since 2013 while the Green Archers dominated the Chiefs with a 95-77 victory as they completed an all-UAAP semifinals cast.
UST will take on National University in their bid to win a breakthrough FilOil title while DLSU will have an early playoff rematch with its tormentor in last year's UAAP finals, University of the Philippines.
Gelo Crisostomo shone for UST with a huge double-double of 17 points and 13 rebounds while Kyle Paranada and Koji Buenaflor each chipped in 12 markers.
For DLSU, Mason Amos had a near-perfect 5-of-6 shooting from the field to finish with 15 points while JC Macalalag and Kean Baclaan each chipped in 12 markers as they halted the Chiefs' five-game winning streak.

Kevin Quiambao the 'highlight' for Gilas Pilipinas in FIBA Asia Cup opener vs Chinese Taipei
Kevin Quiambao's performance did not go unnoticed even if he played in a losing effort. The young Gilas Pilipinas forward injected life into his team's second-half comeback attempt against Chinese Taipei in their 2025 FIBA Asia Cup opener early Wednesday in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Though he sat out the entire first half, KQ finished with 17 points in the second half while also grabbing four rebounds and two assists in just 16 minutes of action. The former UAAP MVP also made key plays, igniting a personal 5-0 run early in the fourth quarter and burying a step-back three that brought Gilas back to within six, 80-74, with 4:43 remaining in the game. But his efforts were not enough as the Philippines came up short, 95-87, in their first assignment in this year's Asia Cup. READ MORE | Gilas Pilipinas stumbles vs Chinese Taipei in 2025 FIBA Asia Cup opener Despite the loss, Gilas head coach Tim Cone tipped his hat to Quiambao for providing life when the team needed it most. "Well, he came out and played with a lot of energy, hit some big shots for us but we still came up short," Cone said. Justin Brownlee carried the offense for Gilas in the first half, collecting 16 points over the first two quarters that was highlighted by a buzzer-beater triple from beyond the halfcourt mark that trimmed Gilas' deficit to 11, 27-16, to end the first period. But the naturalized forward was forced into limited minutes in the fourth quarter due to foul trouble, setting the stage for the former De La Salle star's takeover. With Brownlee fouling out of the game at the 4:31 mark, Chinese Taipei's Robert Hinton sank a pair of freebies to bring Chinese Taipei to another double-digit lead, 88-78, before KQ answered with another long bomb and a jumper to cut the gap to seven with 1:01 to go, 90-83. But his and the rest of Gilas' efforts went for naught as Chinese Taipei closed out what had been a dominant game behind veteran sharpshooter Ying-Chun Chen, who fired 34 points on 6-of-8 shooting from downtown. "We were playing from our heels so we were trying to rush back into the game and took a lot of ill-advised shots, made a lot if ill-advised fouls," Cone added. "But in terms of the way Kevin played, Kevin played very very well. He was the highlight of the team." —JMB, GMA Integrated News

PVL: Chen Tagaod delivers clutch aces as Akari sweeps Petro Gazz for QF berth
Chen Tagaod torched Petro Gazz from the service line as Akari completed a hard-fought 32-30, 25-22, 25-19 win in the 2025 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) On Tour knockout round on Tuesday at the PhilSports Arena. The rookie outside spiker out of Far Eastern University delivered four of the Chargers' last five points, highlighted by three huge aces in a row, as they advanced to the quarterfinals where they will go up against Cignal. Tagaod's heroics sealed Akari's gritty straight-sets victory. Both teams figured in an extended Set 1 with the Angels, the reigning All-Filipino Conference champions, forcing a 30-all deadlock on a power kill from Myla Pablo. But Ivy Lacsina came up with two straight attacks from the left wing to close out the opening frame, 32-30. Akari once again raced to an early lead in Set 2 with Ezra Madrigal returning an overpass from Petro Gazz for a 23-18 cushion before Petro Gazz answered with a 4-1 rampage to trim the gap to two, 22-24. Grethcel Soltones then unleashed one from the left side and used the hands of Joy Dacoron to secure a check-out point, sending Akari to a commanding 2-0 set lead. Akari clinched an early 10-5 lead in the third frame before Petro Gazz responded with a 9-2 blast that swung the lead into their favor, 14-12. But Soltones, Tagaod, and Eli Soyud fueled the finishing touches with Soyud unloading a hammer from the opposite side before a Pablo attack error made it a 20-17 lead for Akari. Petro Gazz retaliated with two points in a row but Tagaod came alive, attacking from the left wing before serving up three straight aces to deliver the match point at 24-19. Soltones punctated the sweep, completing a cross court attack and eliminating the Angels from contention. —JMB, GMA Integrated News

Photo: Michael McLoone-Imagn Images Nine-time NBA All-Star Damian Lillard, who returned to the Portland Trail Blazers last month, announced on Saturday night a second, official position as general manager of the men's basketball program at his alma mater Weber State. Lillard, 35, made the announcement in Ogden, Utah, where he is hosting the Weber State Basketball Alumni Classic. "It's something that, my relationship with coach (Eric) Duft and this program means a lot to me, and seeing the success of the program means a lot to me," Lillard said those in attendance at Swenson Gym, according to the Standard-Examiner in Ogden. "I feel like I can do a lot to help the program be successful, to help the players even individually continue to grow their careers past college, that's something that I'm passionate about." The guard is expected to miss the 2025-26 NBA season as he recovers from a torn left Achilles tendon while playing for the Milwaukee Bucks on April 27 that knocked him out of the rest of the playoffs. The Bucks waived him after the season and he re-signed with the Trail Blazers for a reported three-year, $42 million contract. Weber State issued a news release on Saturday which said Lillard will work closely with the coaching staff and athletic department leadership "to provide insight, mentorship, and guidance, using his experience at the collegiate and professional levels to elevate the program." Portland selected Lillard with the sixth overall pick of the 2012 NBA Draft. The point guard averaged 24.5 points and shot 40.9 percent on 3-point attempts in 32 games (all starts) as a senior in the 2011-12 season, when he was a third-team All-American. Lillard averaged 18.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.2 steals while shooting 39 percent from long range in 104 games (98 starts) during a highly decorated four-year college career. He was the Big Sky Player of the Year twice. Lillard returned to Ogden and graduated in 2015. WSU retired his No. 1 jersey in 2017, and he was inducted into its athletics hall of fame in 2021 and the Big Sky Conference Hall of Fame in 2022. "Once again, Damian Lillard exemplifies loyalty and commitment to his alma mater," WSU President Brad Mortensen said in the release. "We are so grateful for his continued leadership and example he sets for Wildcats past, present, and future." The nine-time All-Star and 2012-13 NBA Rookie of the Year has been selected All-NBA seven times. Lillard owns career averages of 25.1 points, 6.7 assists and 4.3 rebounds in 900 regular-season contests with Portland (2012-23) and Milwaukee (2023-25). His 2,804 3-pointers rank fourth in NBA history and his 22,598 points rank eighth among active players. "Success doesn't come overnight, especially in today's ever-changing basketball landscape," Lillard said in the university's news release. "College athletics is constantly evolving, and building a strong program requires time, trust, and commitment. "I believe in what this program represents and the culture that continues to grow at Weber State," Lillard continued. "The support of our community is vital to the program's success, and I am committed to playing a greater role in that effort. This opportunity allows me to be even more involved in shaping the future of Weber State basketball." --Field Level Media/Reuters
