Aizawl, Jul 21 (PTI) The Chief Engineer of Project Pushpak of Border Roads Organisation (BRO) GP Singh on Monday called on Mizoram Governor Vijay Kumar Singh and briefed him on critical key infrastructure projects to enhance border security and improve connectivity in the northeastern state, Raj Bhavan sources said.
The discussion highlighted six key projects, including the urgent need to upgrade the Kawnpui-Durtlang-Aizawl (K-D-A) road and the necessity for securing funds from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the sources said.
The two discussed the need for fast track disposal of Land Acquisition (LA) and Forest Clearance (FC) cases related to International Border (IMB) road works and fencing works under MHA to ensure timely progress, and proposal for the Kawlchaw-Serkawr-Tuipang road, emphasising the need for the state government to issue a No Objection Certificate (NOC) promptly to commence this strategic work.
They also discussed allocation of a package under the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project (KMMTTP) to the 71 RCC (GREF) unit in Lawngtlai to ensure effective supervision and completion of KMMTTP, highlighting its potential to boost development, and also proposal to assign certain packages of the Aizawl bypass project to Pushpak/BRO to facilitate its smooth and efficient completion, which is critical for decongesting traffic in the capital city, the sources said. Karnataka IT Minister Priyank Kharge on Tuesday said the state is talking to companies to evaluate the impact of AI on workforce and the assessment is expected to be completed in about a month. Driving licences to be delivered at applicants' doorstep: Govt
Bhopal: Driving licences in Madhya Pradesh will now be dispatched directly to the homes of applicants, transport minister Udai Pratap Singh told the state assembly on Wednesday. Responding to a debate on the MP Motor Vehicle Taxation (Amendment) Act, Singh said the transport dept was focused not just on tax collection but also on improving public services. "Most jobs done at RTOs have an online facility now thereby saving people from making rounds of RTO and only when a photo of a person has to be clicked, he has to go to the RTO office," the minister said. "Be it applying for a licence or a permit or paying a penalty, everything can be done online and the department now proposes to dispatch smart licence cards to the home address of the applicants," he said. Earlier, BJP MLA Vhgwandas Sabnani requested the minister to give smart card-like licences to people so that it was easily preserved and also send the licences to the home address of the applicant as the passport offices do.

According to a study by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), the tariff is expected to affect India's GDP by only 0.19%, which is almost negligible. Out of India's total exports worth $86.5 billion, only $8.1 billion around 1.87% will be affected by this move. Trump Tariffs: What PHDCCI Study Says? The paper, released by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), also recommends a series of measures to mitigate the impact of US tariffs. 'Our analysis indicates that there will be an estimated impact of only 1.87 per cent on India's total global merchandise exports and a negligible 0.19 per cent on India's GDP as a result of a 25 per cent tariff announced by the US on India,' said Hemant Jain, President, PHDCCI. The study said the total potential export impact is estimated at USD 8.1 billion based on 2024-25 merchandise exports of USD 86.5 billion (1.87 per cent of India's total global export). Which Sectors Will Impact By Trump Tariffs? Among other sectors, the study said the levies would impact engineering goods (USD 1.8 billion), gems and jewellery (USD 932 million), and ready-made garments (USD 500 million). In the wake of the US tariffs, the industry body has recommended several measures, including increasing market penetration, product development and market diversification. It suggested that stakeholders should negotiate bundled-pricing deals (textiles plus accessories) to absorb some tariff cost and maintain shelf-price competitiveness. 'Leverage Indian diaspora networks (trade fairs, cultural events) to boost volume with existing buyers under current product portfolios,' it said. PHDCCI also made a strong case for investments in joint ventures with US firms to produce tariff-sensitive goods on-shore, thereby converting exports into high-value services and intellectual property (IP) licensing.
