Odisha CM approves two more OISF battalions for better industrial environment
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi ratified the proposal to form two more battalions of OISF, taking the total strength to four. The 3rd and 4th battalions will have 1,944 regular posts and 136 outsourced positions with a total manpower of 2,080.
The OISF initially had one battalion with 1,807 personnel. In April, the chief minister approved formation of a second battalion, increasing the total strength to 2,847 personnel. With the recent creation of the third and fourth battalions, the total number of posts in OISF has now reached 4,927.
The state government is prioritising industrial growth and taking steps to attract new industries. With the resounding success of Utkarsh Odisha-Make in Odisha 2025 summit attracting investment intent of more than Rs 4.5 lakh crore, the pace of industrialisation in the state has got a boost.
The state also attracted another Rs 1.4 lakh crore of investments in the first quarter of the current financial year.
Given the importance of securing industrial establishments and commercial hubs, the CM approved formation of two additional battalions for OISF.

PM-KISAN payout helps farmers buy diesel for tractors in State
New Delhi: As Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the 20th installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, farmers in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu on Saturday expressed gratitude, saying the scheme has significantly helped them buy diesel for tractors, and pay wages to labourers. The PM-KISAN scheme has been a crucial support for farmers during difficult times. In Karnataka's Dharwad district, farmers said that the PM-KISAN initiative is making a positive impact on their agricultural activities. The funds help not only in purchasing seeds and fertilisers but also in managing household expenses, including school and college fees for their children. The scheme, launched by the PM Modi government, aims to provide income support to small and marginal farmers across the country. Under PM-KISAN, eligible farmers receive Rs 6,000 annually in three equal installments directly into their bank accounts. Speaking to IANS, farmers shared how the scheme has improved their lives. Nagappa Ganiger, a farmer from Dharwad, said, 'The PM-KISAN scheme has been a great help during tough times. It has enabled me to buy diesel for tractors and pay wages to labourers on time. So far, 20 installments have been credited to my account without fail. I am thankful to Prime Minister Modi.' Another farmer, Basavaraj Gunjal, added, 'With the aim of doubling farmers' income, Prime Minister Modi has introduced several farmer-friendly initiatives. The Rs 6,000 annual support through PM-KISAN has been a real benefit. On behalf of all farmers, I express my sincere thanks to him.'

A Vision for the future The project encompassing both the Northern Railway and North Eastern Railway zones will accommodate a staggering 1.40 lakh passengers daily while ensuring seamless connectivity, sustainability, and passenger comfort. 'The idea is seamless movement,' said a rail official. The western FOB will link directly to the Lucknow Metro's Charbagh station, connecting both NER station and NR concourses, with escalators and lifts for accessibility. The eastern FOB will tie Station Road and Kanpur Road directly to platform No. 1 and further. Elevating the passenger experience A sprawling ground plus six-floor building spanning 45,270 square metres at the rear will house airconditioned waiting areas, food courts, dormitories, and commercial spaces. New blocks on the east and west will enhance accessibility and aesthetics, while dedicated drop-off/pick-up zones and widened roads will ease traffic congestion. Parking facilities for 900 two-wheelers and 900 four-wheelers will cater to the station's bustling traffic. Passenger amenities are at the core of the design. Retiring rooms, cloakrooms, medical facilities, CCTV surveillance, baggage scanners, and smart signage systems will elevate the travel experience. The NR zone, which currently has nine platforms, will get two more — all 11 platforms to be accessible via the elevated concourse. This concourse will double as a vibrant hub with waiting areas, shops, and other facilities for travellers. Sustainability and innovation Sustainability is woven into the project's core. Rainwater harvesting systems, stormwater management, and landscaped public spaces reflect a commitment to environmental stewardship. The use of pre-engineered buildings, modular construction, and building information modelling ensures precision and efficiency, minimizing waste and maximizing durability. Progress amid challenges The transformation is well underway, with over 84% of the rear station building structure complete. Platform panel casting is finished, and external development is progressing. An integrated running room with 326 beds and a new workshop store are ready for handover. However, the journey hasn't been without hurdles. The rear entry project, initially slated for completion by Dec 2025, has been delayed to May 2026 due to challenges like the Kumbh Mela rush, the relocation of railway assets, and land availability issues. A 56-day block is currently in place to develop the concourse over platforms 2 through the rear entry is complete, railway operations will shift to the southern side, freeing up the northern front for Rail Land Development Authority to begin work on the station's iconic facade. Existing railway offices, rest houses, and utility structures are being relocated to make way for these new developments. Honouring a legacy Charbagh's historical significance is not lost in this transformation. 1.6 lakh at Bengal govt's ‘Amader Para' camps with local problems on launch day
KOLKATA: Bengal govt's people-centric initiative 'Amader Para Amader Samadhan' (APAS) recorded 1.6 lakh footfall across 632 camps on the day of its launch on Saturday. The scheme, announced by CM Mamata Banerjee last month, is aimed at solving neighbourhood problems from 80,000 local-level booths. With a fund allotment of Rs 8,000 crore, or Rs 10 lakh per booth, the two-month-long programme will aim at finding local quick-fix solutions to problems such as broken water pumps, blocked drains and out-of-order electric posts. In Kolkata, APAS booths were set up in wards 10, 13, 48 and 70 on Saturday. Mayor Firhad Hakim was present at Bhowanipore's ward 70, which is part of the CM's constituency, to lend an ear to people's grievances. Ashok Gupta, a resident of Bishop Lefroy Road, complained that their neighbourhood, while well-decked, had a kabadiwala shop that was an eyesore. 'Many foreigners visit the area to see the house where Satyajit Ray lived. Currently, his son Sandip Ray lives there. I plead to the administration to relocate the shop,' he said, adding that smoke from a local eatery's kitchen was also an irritant.
