Porzingis going to Hawks in a 3-team trade agreement, AP source says
Kristaps Porzingis is being traded by the Boston Celtics to the Atlanta Hawks, and part of what will be a three-team deal gives the Brooklyn Nets another selection in Wednesday's first round of the NBA draft, according to a person with knowledge of the agreement.
Porzingis is going to the Hawks, while Georges Niang and a second-round pick will be acquired by Boston, and Brooklyn will wind up with Terance Mann and the No. 22 pick that is held by Atlanta in Wednesday's draft, said the person who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the trade isn't expected to be finalized until the start of the new league year on July 6.

ESPN first reported the trade, which was later confirmed by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The move is the second major one by Boston of the week, after the team agreed to trade Jrue Holiday to Portland. The combination of those moves still has Boston past the tax line for next season but out from under the second apron, which gives the Celtics — who will be without Jayson Tatum for, at minimum, a significant portion of next season because of an Achilles tear — more flexibility moving forward.
Getting under the second apron is important; that threshold, once exceeded, limits ways that teams can trade for or sign players.
Porzingis — who, like Holiday, was part of the team that helped Boston win the 2024 NBA title — will make $30.7 million next season on an expiring contract. He was slowed by illness at times in the second half of this past season, as well as in Boston's playoff run this spring. But he intends to play for Latvia at EuroBasket this summer, a good sign.

'Thanks for all the support and questions about my health,' Porzingis posted on social media this week. 'I've been feeling excellent all offseason and look forward to a healthy and strong European championship tournament."
Porzingis averaged 19.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 42 games this season.
The Nets now technically have five picks in Wednesday's first round. They own the Nos. 8, 19, 26 and 27 selections already, and the Hawks will essentially be picking for the Nets now at No. 22, as well.

Angels' Christian Moore puts majors on notice with 2 big homers exactly 1 year after CWS triumph
ANAHEIM, Calif. — Christian Moore made it to the big leagues less than 11 months after the Los Angeles Angels drafted him. A mere 10 days after he got that call, Moore felt he truly arrived when he hit two clutch homers to beat the Red Sox. Moore hit a tying solo homer in the eighth inning and a two-run shot in the 10th inning of the Angels' 3-2 victory over Boston. The walk-off homer capped a remarkable moment for the energetic No. 8 overall pick who could be a fixture in the Halos' lineup for years to come. Moore's new teammates celebrated his second blast by tearing the jersey off his back at home plate before dousing the Brooklyn native with two ice-cold coolers of sports drinks during his postgame interview. 'It means the world to me to be here in this situation,' said Moore, the Angels' top prospect. 'It's a full, complete circle, obviously. The Angels saw something in me at last year's draft, and they continue to see something in me, and I'm going to continue to go out there and try to win games.' One year to the day after Moore's Tennessee Volunteers won the College World Series, the second baseman had the biggest game of his promising professional career. The Angels already are sold on Moore's ability to thrive in the majors. 'He's going to be here for long time,' Angels shortstop Zach Neto said. 'For him to be able to do that in the eighth inning with that swing, and have the confidence to be able to do it again in the 10th, just shows who he is. We drafted him for a reason, and he's here for a reason.' Moore's big game didn't start out superbly, with fellow ex-Vol Garrett Crochet striking him out twice. But Moore learned from the challenges of facing one of the majors' best pitchers, and he came through with a pair of clutch homers off the Boston bullpen. 'Those were two really special (at-bats),' Angels acting manager Ray Montgomery said. 'To do that here is really fun for him. ... He has that youthful sort of exuberance that's refreshing, because there's just so much energy.' Moore first connected on a high fastball from Greg Weissert in the eighth, wiping out Boston's 1-0 lead that Crochet nursed through seven innings. After Marcelo Mayer led off the 10th with an RBI single for Boston, Moore ended it in the bottom half with a one-out homer off Justin Wilson. The drive hit the elevated wall in right field at Angel Stadium just barely above the yellow line signifying a homer, and Moore thought he only had a triple until he was waved home. 'I didn't believe it,' Moore said with a grin. 'I was kind of scared to get off the base, but the umpire made it pretty serious that it was a home run, so I was like, 'All right, I'm going to take your word for it and go celebrate with my boys. That's cool with me.'' The Angels aggressively have promoted their top prospects under general manager Perry Minasian, calling up Neto and first baseman Nolan Schanuel well before the industry norms. While Neto rounded into an elite player quickly, Schanuel needed a couple of years before he began contributing at an above-average level this season. Los Angeles is hoping Moore can quickly master the challenges of the majors after just 305 at-bats in the minors. Moore figures this big game will provide a boost to his confidence and competitiveness. 'It was definitely huge,' Moore said. 'If you look at (my offensive) numbers before today, it wasn't too good. I think that's just part of it, being young and trying to figure it out in this league. I think there's just a lot of good arms. Facing Garrett Crochet, he's definitely tough. I think it's (the same) for a lot of guys that are young. We're finding our way for sure, and we're going to keep doing it.'

Why Did The Celtics Trade Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis? What's Next?
The Boston Celtics have been among the busiest teams in the NBA this offseason, making multiple trades in the days since the NBA Finals ended, but not for the reason a fan base of a contending team would want. Over the past week, Boston has traded away six-time All-Defensive guard Jrue Holiday and skilled big man Kristaps Porzingis for returns that, without context, left much to be desired. Boston's Trades Traded Holiday to the Portland Trail Blazers for Anfernee Simons and two future second-round picks Traded Porzingis to the Atlanta Hawks in a three-team deal with the Brooklyn Nets for Georges Niang and a future second-rounder Why did Boston make these moves? Are the Celtics, who just won 61 games last season and the 2024 NBA Finals the year before, blowing it up in the wake of Jayson Tatum rupturing his Achilles tendon during the team's second-round series loss to the New York Knicks? Here's an explainer of the Celtics' transactions and what could be next. The Celtics were a second apron team Boston was one of three teams to exceed the second luxury tax apron, which bars teams from executing a variety of transactions, last season. Penalties for exceeding that threshold include not being able to make sign-and-trades, sending out cash in trades, using trade exceptions and using a mid-level exception, among other negatives. In addition, the Celtics were repeat luxury tax offenders, meaning the financial penalties would be even higher. Boston's two stars, Tatum and Jaylen Brown, have seismic contracts that push the franchise's payroll to extremes to begin with: Tatum begins a five-year, $313.9 million deal ($62.8 million average annual value) next season, and Brown is one season into a five-year, $303 million deal ($60.6 million AAV). The Celtics also extended guard Derrick White to a four-year, $118 million deal ($29.5 AAV) last summer, a contract which begins next season. Why Holiday and Porzingis were traded Holiday averaged 11.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, 4.4 assists and one steal per game, while shooting 46.4/39.2/87.2 per season over his two years in Boston. Porzingis averaged 19.8 points, seven rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game, while shooting 50.2/39.2/83.8 over his two years in Boston. These trades had nothing to do with basketball, and everything to do with future savings. Holiday, who turned 35 earlier this month, has three seasons remaining on a four-year, $134.4 million deal. Meanwhile, Simons, a respectable scorer in his own right who averaged 20.7 points per game over the past three seasons, is entering the final season of a four-year, $100 million deal. Holiday is due to make roughly $32.4 million next season and a combined $72 million in the two seasons that follow, whereas Simons is due to make roughly $27.7 million next season and then hit the free-agent market: Boston got out of Holiday's contract. Porzingis is entering the final season of a two-year, $60 million deal, while Niang is entering the final season of a three-year, $25.5 million deal. In other words, Boston goes from paying Porzingis roughly $30.7 million next season to paying Niang roughly $8.2 million. The Celtics are now out of the second apron. What could be next for the Celtics? As for impending matters, Boston has the No. 28 and No. 32 picks in the 2025 NBA Draft, which begins on Wednesday night. Meanwhile, big men Al Horford and Luke Kornet are each scheduled to become free agents, with teams allowed to negotiate with players outside their roster starting on June 30. In all likelihood, Tatum, Brown and White will return, but given the combined $123.4 million average annual salary dedicated to Tatum and Brown — along with Tatum presumably missing next season — Boston would likely listen to a fair or overwhelming trade offer for White.
