Godfather of AI issues serious warning about its dangers

ALBAWABA - Geoffrey Hinton, the British-Canadian computer scientist and cognitive psychologist known as the Godfather of Artificial Intelligence (AI), issued a serious warning about the dangers of AI, saying that it could eventually take control away from humans. The 77-year-old researcher and scientist was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics last year for his significant work on neural networks. Notably, Hinton proposed a method in 1986 for predicting the next word in a sequence—a concept that now underpins major language models.
Previously, Hinton believed that AI was crucial for global development across diverse fields and sectors, including education, medicine, the environment, and more. However, he now warns that the dangers are growing rapidly, suggesting there is a 10–20% chance that AI could eventually take control away from humans.
"The best way to understand it emotionally is we are like somebody who has this really cute tiger cub. Unless you can be very sure that it's not gonna want to kill you when it's grown up, you should worry,' Hinton explained.
Furthermore, Hinton criticized major companies—including Google, OpenAI, and xAI—for prioritizing profits over safety when it comes to AI. He explained that these companies are continually lobbying for fewer AI regulations in order to increase their revenues over time.

This widespread understanding builds trust and accelerates adoption. The final pillars address the critical needs of trust and infrastructure. Proactive Governance is a necessity to protect against issues like bias, data privacy violations, and lack of transparency. Organizations must build ethical frameworks from the ground up, implementing policies that ensure fairness, accountability, and compliance with evolving regulations. Scientists have discovered the fossil of a tiny mouse-sized mammal that lived in the time of the dinosaurs in Chilean Patagonia. Yeutherium pressor weighed between 30 and 40 grams (about one ounce) and lived in the Upper Cretaceous period, about 74 million years ago. اضافة اعلان It is the smallest mammal ever found in this region of South America, dating back to the era when it was part of a continental land mass known as Gondwana. The fossil consists of 'a small piece of jaw with a molar and the crown and roots of two other molars,' said Hans Puschel, who led the team of scientists from the University of Chile and Chile's Millennium Nucleus research center on early mammals. The discovery was published this month in the British scientific journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B. Researchers found the fossil in the Rio de las Las Chinas Valley in Chile's Magallanes region, about 3,000 kilometers (1,864 miles) south of Santiago. Despite its similarity to a small rodent, Yeutherium pressor was a mammal that must have laid eggs, like the platypus, or carried its young in a pouch like kangaroos or opossums.
