This ambitious expansion requires highly skilled corporate employees, particularly in software development, data science, and operations management. As Uber grows, so does its need for an expanded and specialised workforce. A key indicator of Uber's growing corporate workforce is its increasing number of H-1B visa applications. 82.5% rise in Bengal firms since 2011: Union govt data

1 2 Kolkata: The number of companies registered in Bengal has gone up 82.5% between 2011 and 2025, according to data from the Union ministry of corporate affairs. In 2011, there were 1,37,156 companies registered in the state. On March 31 this year, number of companies registered in the state stood at 2,50,343. The numbers were part of a reply by Harsh Malhotra, minister of state in the corporate affairs ministry, in response to a question by Trinamool's Mathurapur MP Bapi Haldar. According to the reply, companies with registered offices in Bengal in 2010 stood at 1,21,496. This rose to 1,37,156 the next year. Between 2019, when this number was 2,00,626, and 2020 (the Covid year), the number rose to 2,06,305. As of 31 March 2021, despite Covid constraints, it stood at 2,13,504. By 2022, this number climbed to 2,21,873, and then to 2,50,343 in 2025. The minister shared in an annexure that in 2020-21, 7,197 companies were incorporated in Bengal while 306 left. In 2021-22, 8,365 companies were incorporated and 273 left. In 2022-23, the numbers stood at 7,978 and 270, respectively, and the comparative figures in 2023-24 stood at 8,683 and 371. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Learn More - How Donating Sperm May Boost Your Income SpellRock Undo In 2024-2025, this stood at 8,353 and 366, and this year, till 31 July, 3,464 companies were incorporated and 156 left Bengal. State industry minister Shashi Panja, in a statement on X, said, "A bitter pill for BJP to swallow! For years, they've run a one-sided smear campaign painting Bengal as 'industry-averse.' But now, data from their own ministry blows their lies to pieces." "In the last six years (up to 31 July 2025), 44,040 companies were incorporated in Bengal, while only 1,742 companies shifted their registered offices out of the state. Under CM Mamata Banerjee, Bengal has witnessed a wave of development the BJP can't match. So, they resort to peddling lies, half-truths, and propaganda to hide their own miserable record," it added. BJP's Amit Malviya, citing the numbers, on X wrote: "Registering an office is not the same as running a thriving industry. The real story is written in boarded-up factories, fleeing companies, collapsing investor confidence, and Bengal's plunge from industrial pride to economic cautionary tale under Mamata Banerjee." Matsya Sanjeevini to boost fisheries, empower women

Dharwad: The state govt has launched 'Matsya Sanjeevini', a programme to boost fisheries sector in all districts. Fisheries were being taken up in big tanks and lakes that are under the minor irrigation department but the new scheme envisages fish farming in small tanks under gram panchayats. The speciality of the scheme is that the women's groups in the gram panchayat will be responsible for its implementation. The objective is to make women economically empowered. A total of 125 GPs have been identified in Dharwad district for implementation of the scheme and as many women's groups have come forward to implement the scheme. The fisheries department will train the members of women's groups in implementing the scheme and the training sessions have already commenced, said Shripad Kulkarni, deputy director of fisheries department. The fishes will be sold in the local market and the members of the group will share the proceeds. It is not necessary that fish farming has to be done only in large waterbodies like the ocean and rivers. Small waterbodies will also be useful for this purpose, Kulkarni said. Dharwad district has several small waterbodies and there is good scope for implementation of Matsya Sanjeevini, he explained. There are 129 waterbodies, including Neersagar lake spread over a total area of 2,109 hectares, and the fisheries development activity is going on in 20 lakes through Fisheries Cooperative Societies. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like We Have No Words For Dog The Bounty Hunter's Transformation Cash Roadster Undo Apart from this, fisheries are being carried out in Hulikeri, Tadkod and other tanks through e-tendering. In 2024-2025, the fish production stood at 8,360 metric tonnes. Matsya Sanjeevini will help boost the production further, Kulkarni informed. There are various types of fishes including katla, rohu, mrigal and silver, among others, in different tanks and every year, 21.5 lakh fishes are released in these tanks. The department will provide necessary kits, subsidies and houses for fishermen and already 175 houses have been distributed to the fishermen, the officer said. Staff shortage Though the staff at the fisheries department in Dharwad district is keen on implementing Matsya Sanjeevini aggressively, staff crunch has put a brake on their enthusiasm. There are 17 sanctioned posts in the department of which nine are vacant. Dharwad, Kalghatgi and Hubballi have the posts of assistant director and other taluks do not even have offices and staff, said an officer.
