Czech Republic reaffirms support for UN-sponsored Libyan political process

Tetteh: Upcoming roadmap to be based on Libyans' views to end transitional phases
The UN envoy to Libya Hanna Tetteh said that the anticipated roadmap will be based on input gathered from Libyans through in-person meetings, open calls, and online surveys. During a virtual meeting with a group of Libyans, Tetteh emphasized that this data will form the technical and political foundation for the new roadmap, which will be presented to the UN Security Council on August 20 and 21. Tetteh clarified that the UN mission is not seeking to prolong the transitional phases but is working toward a stable phase through elections based on a clear and enforceable legal framework. She noted that the advisory committee has recommended separating the presidential and parliamentary elections. On Thursday, the UN mission announced that the 6+6 Committee and the advisory committee had reached an agreement on the need to amend Libya's constitutional and legal framework in order to facilitate widely accepted presidential and parliamentary elections. At the end of a two-day consultative meeting sponsored by the UN mission, both committees affirmed that amending the constitutional declaration and reviewing electoral laws are essential steps toward achieving a comprehensive political settlement. This, they said, also requires the formation of a unified government with a clear electoral mandate and local and international guarantees to rebuild trust between the people and political institutions.
