‘That's what he can give' – Stroppy Tuchel suggests Ivan Toney will NOT get more playing time due to ‘specialist' role

THOMAS TUCHEL hinted Ivan Toney may have to get used to limited game time due to his "specialist role".
The striker was an unused substitute against Andorra and had to wait until the 88th minute to feature against Senegal.

Toney watched on glumly from the bench with England trailing 2-1 as Morgan Rodgers, Morgan Gibbs-White, Noni Madueke and Jude Bellingham all got the nod ahead of him.
He was eventually brought on for three remaining minutes plus stoppage time but was unable to impact the match, with Senegal instead scoring a third to win 3-1.
After the match Tuchel spoke to ITV and was asked to explain the reason behind Toney's late introduction.
He said: "First of all it was more than three minutes.
"Second of all I think that Ivan is a specialist for exactly these situations.
"We created a lot of chances with Gibbs-White, with Ebs [Eberechi Eze], with Morgan Rodgers, and with Jude in fluid positions.
"I think Ivan is strongest when we have a phase where we have a lot of balls in the box and that was the case, so after 80 minutes we got him ready.
"Then we scored and they took the goal away and it took a little while longer than we wanted but that's what he can give - presence in the box and a goal later in the match."
Captain Harry Kane started ahead of Toney for both matches and scored in both.
Toney was recalled to the England squad for the first time since his move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli last summer.
He last featured for the Three Lions in the final of Euro 2024 against Spain, but played just one minute.
Tuchel spoke of Toney deserving his recall ahead of the fixtures against Andorra and Senegal.
He said: "Ivan deserves to be with us. I'm convinced.
"He's scored over 20 goals for Al Ahli this season, he won a major title - the Asian Champions League - and had a big involvement in the team in goals and assists."

Anthony Joshua's career may be ending sooner than we thought

Eddie Hearn, Anthony Joshua 's promoter, predicts that 2026 will "probably" be Joshua's last year as a professional boxer. Joshua, 35, has not fought since his defeat to Daniel Dubois in September. Hearn believes that fighting Tyson Fury is the only thing left for Joshua to accomplish before retiring. Hearn suggests Joshua could have two fights with Tyson Fury and then retire, feeling he would have achieved everything. While Hearn would like Joshua to have another shot at Dubois and Usyk, he believes beating Fury twice would be a fitting end to his career. 2026 will probably be Anthony Joshua's final year in boxing – Eddie Hearn

Dele Alli 'splits with girlfriend Cindy Kimberly following trip to Ibiza' as model unfollows Como star on social media

Former Tottenham and England star Dele Alli has reportedly split with his model girlfriend Cindy Kimberly. Alli, who currently plays his football at Italian side Como - for whom he signed in January - has endured a difficult few years both on and off the pitch. The 29-year-old hadn't played a professional game for two years before he was afforded the chance to train with the Serie A club. Cesc Fabregas, the Como manager, then opted to bring Alli on board officially, handing him his debut against AC Milan in March. However, his return did not go to plan - lasting only 10 minutes - as he was red-carded and Como went on to lose to the Rossoneri. Alli has not been seen on the grass since. Now, off the field, he has suffered a blow, according to reports, with GSM claiming that he and Kimberly have called it quits, with the model unfollowing the football star on social media app Instagram. The couple went public with their relationship in June 2022, and as recently as January, Cindy, who works as a full-time model - having once graced the cover of Sports Illustrated - could be seen posing with Alli as he completed his move to Como. Cindy had been a rock for the footballer, who in 2023 opened up on his traumatic childhood, which included being sexually abused as young as the age of six. The model also stood by him as he revealed his addiction to sleeping pills and the mental health issues he has had to deal with, in an incredibly raw interview with Gary Neville. But now, it seems their relationship is over. Cindy is believed to have wiped all pictures of the pair together, including one taken of them in Como as recently as April, from her Instagram. This all follows Alli's recent trip to Ibiza, where he was reportedly seen with model Parmida Shahbazy, while Cindy was working in Morocco. Despite the reports, Alli does still follow Cindy on social media. On the pitch, meanwhile, Alli will be hoping that the upcoming season will prove more fruitful than the last. Last month, Fabregas, who lambasted Alli for his 'grave mistake' during his only appearance for Como, insisted that he needs to 'keep working' in a bid to resurrect his career. 'Dele Alli needs to keep working,' said Fabregas. 'He had his chance in Milan, but was sent off and then got injured. When the right time comes, it just comes.' However, Fabregas was not quite as forgiving following Alli's debut back in March, showing little sympathy for the former Everton man. 'Dele Alli is a player who can score goals,' Fabregas told DAZN. 'He perhaps didn't deserve this opportunity because he has only been working with us for two weeks and has a lot to improve. 'It is a grave mistake, one that we should not see from a player of his experience. 'It was a clear red card, there's nothing to be said about that, he left the team down to 10 men during a crucial moment when we were pushing for 2-2. 'That is the most negative thing about this evening, but we keep going.'

Man United's hopes of cashing in on Jadon Sancho dealt heavy blow as Borussia Dortmund REJECT the chance to sign him again - but three Premier League clubs remain interested in the winger

Manchester United outcast Jadon Sancho has been told that a return to Borussia Dortmund this summer is unlikely. The 25-year-old thrived at Dortmund during a four-year spell which earned him his £73million move to Old Trafford in 2021. He returned on loan last year and impressed as the German side reached the Champions League final. Sancho is hoping to reinvigorate his career after disappointing at United having failed to recover from his public falling out with former boss Erik Ten Hag. He was shipped out on loan to Chelsea last season and the Blues had the option to sign him permanently for £25m this summer, but they instead opted to pay £5m to cancel the deal, with Sancho heading back to the Red Devils. Despite his past success in Germany, Dortmund will not offer the England international a route out of Manchester. On Wednesday, Dortmund's sporting director Sebastie Kehl ruled out a move. He said: 'Of course, there's always some kind of contact with Jadon because of the long history we share, but at the moment, Jadon is not a topic for us.' The winger's salary, which is believed to currently be between €18m (£15.3m) and €20m (£17m) per year, is far too pricey for Dortmund, according to Bild. Dortmund's reluctance comes as a blow to United's hope of cashing in for the player they signed for big money four years ago. Meanwhile, three Premier League sides have been linked with Sancho. One of those sides is said to be Tottenham, who have the pulling power of the Champions League after qualifying for the competition by winning the Europa League. Another club is Aston Villa, who are also in Europe, but had to settle for Europa League qualification after failing to finish in the top five of the Premier League when they lost against United on the final day of the season. Newcastle have also long been in the market for a right-sided forward, and Sancho fits the bill. Sancho's troubles at United began after Ten Hag criticised his performances in training after he was left out of a squad to face Arsenal in 2023. He won the Conference League with the Blues last month but has returned to Man United The player then branded the words 'completely untrue' in a social media post that was later deleted. The situation resulted in Ten Hag demanding an apology, and Sancho refusing to give one - he did not play for the Dutchman again and went on loan to Chelsea after a brief spell at former club Dortmund. Sancho took to social media to thank the Blues for his time at the club after it was made clear that Chelsea would not be making the loan deal permanent. 'Grateful for the experience,' Sancho wrote on Instagram. 'Big love to everyone at Chelsea who made me feel at home - team-mates, staff, and the fans. 'Wishing the club all the best moving forward. Truly grateful, thank you Blues.' Sancho struggled for consistency over the 2024-25 season, though he did score in the Conference League final against Real Betis, which Chelsea won 4-1.
