CAIRO – 2 May 2025: Egypt's Ministry of Health and Population confirmed that 60 million women have received medical examination services as part of the President's initiative to support women's health.
According to a report issued by The Ministry of Health, the early diagnosis and detection of breast tumors contributes to reducing the burden on patients and state's medical facilities through effective response to the treatment protocols provided totally free of charge.
According to Minister of Health Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, 800,000 women have visited hospitals for advanced examination as part of the Presidential Initiative for Women's Health.
He noted that the initiative provides free examination for women through 3,663 health units across the country, in addition to the participation of 102 hospitals to provide medical services to women requiring advanced treatment.
The report explained that the initiative follows the latest international protocols for breast cancer treatment through 14 centers affiliated with the Ministry of Health and Population. These protocols are also implemented free of charge in 14 centers affiliated with the Supreme Council of University Hospitals.
The report also noted that the initiative targets women aged 18 and over, and includes screening for non-communicable diseases (diabetes, blood pressure, weight and height measurements, body mass index (BMI), and obesity or overweight assessments), along with raising awareness of risk factors for non-communicable diseases, as well as raising awareness of family planning.
The report revealed that 33,000 cases of breast cancer have been detected since the initiative was launched, in addition to 51,000 tumor samples being taken for analysis, and treatment being provided 'free of charge' to confirmed cases.

Developed by the Matrouh Health Directorate, the plan focuses on strengthening emergency response, preventive monitoring, and medical infrastructure throughout the region. The measures include health inspections across tourist resorts, food establishments, water stations, health clubs, and sewage facilities, aiming to prevent public health violations during peak season. Infection control and occupational safety standards are also being reviewed at both public and private hospitals. Refresher training has been provided to hospital directors, and emergency teams have been trained specifically to manage cases related to infectious disease and poisoning. In a statement on Monday, the ministry outlined the measures being taken after Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar received a detailed report on the plan from the Matrouh Health Directorate. Ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said the plan covers public health measures, inspections of facilities, the establishment of a central operations room, and resource management to handle the seasonal influx of visitors. The plan includes preventive inspections of tourist facilities, food production and service establishments, health clubs, water stations and sewage networks. It also involves monitoring infection control measures and occupational health and safety standards at both public and private health facilities in the coastal cities and tourist villages. To enhance hospital and staff readiness, a refresher training programme has been organised for hospital managers, while emergency staff have been trained to handle infectious diseases and cases of poisoning. All medical teams, including supporting staff, have been vaccinated against Hepatitis B, the spokesperson added. Resources have been bolstered with the creation of a backup storage facility for vaccines, medicines and medical supplies at Marina Central Hospital, where medical isolation rooms have also been designated. A number of mobile clinics are also stationed in the area, and the Presidential Initiative for Women's Health vehicle will be present throughout the summer. A central operations room has been established to run 24/7, linked to the directorate's emergency room and the ministry's central crisis room to monitor the plan's implementation. According to Islam Assaf, the Health Undersecretary in Matrouh, all hospitals are mandated to accept and provide immediate emergency care to all patients. Protocols are in place for coordinating transfers for specialised cases, and hospitals are also operating evening clinics as per regulations.
