60 million women examined as part of presidential initiative for women's health

CAIRO – 2 May 2025: Egypt's Ministry of Health and Population confirmed that 60 million women have received medical examination services as part of the President's initiative to support women's health. According to a report issued by The Ministry of Health, the early diagnosis and detection of breast tumors contributes to reducing the burden on patients and state's medical facilities through effective response to the treatment protocols provided totally free of charge. According to Minister of Health Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, 800,000 women have visited hospitals for advanced examination as part of the Presidential Initiative for Women's Health. He noted that the initiative provides free examination for women through 3,663 health units across the country, in addition to the participation of 102 hospitals to provide medical services to women requiring advanced treatment. The report explained that the initiative follows the latest international protocols for breast cancer treatment through 14 centers affiliated with the Ministry of Health and Population. These protocols are also implemented free of charge in 14 centers affiliated with the Supreme Council of University Hospitals. The report also noted that the initiative targets women aged 18 and over, and includes screening for non-communicable diseases (diabetes, blood pressure, weight and height measurements, body mass index (BMI), and obesity or overweight assessments), along with raising awareness of risk factors for non-communicable diseases, as well as raising awareness of family planning. The report revealed that 33,000 cases of breast cancer have been detected since the initiative was launched, in addition to 51,000 tumor samples being taken for analysis, and treatment being provided 'free of charge' to confirmed cases.

Egypt's Ministry of Health and Population announced on Sunday that the total number of visits recorded under the presidential sustainable initiative for women's health support has reached 57,780,622 since its launch in July 2019 until the end of February 2025. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the ministry's official spokesperson, stated that the visits included 22.5 million first-time visits, 22.7 million periodic visits, and 12.4 million occasional visits, showcasing the widespread impact of the initiative on the healthcare of women in Egypt. The initiative provides free screening services for women through 3,663 health units across all governorates, in addition to 102 hospitals offering advanced examinations for cases requiring further evaluation. Abdel Ghaffar also highlighted that 790,475 women have undergone advanced screenings as part of the programme, which focuses on early detection and prevention. Targeting women aged 18 and above, the initiative includes screenings for non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure, alongside body mass index (BMI) measurements, reproductive health education, and family planning awareness. The spokesperson further explained that the initiative adheres to the latest global protocols for breast cancer treatment. It offers free treatment in 14 centers affiliated with the Ministry of Health and another 14 centers under the Supreme Council of University Hospitals. These centers are also being prepared for applied research in cancer treatment. Hatem Amin, the initiative's executive director, reported that since its launch, 31,842 breast cancer cases have been detected. The initiative has conducted 423,937 mammograms and collected 48,682 tumor samples for analysis. Confirmed cases have received free treatment through the programme. Amin added that the initiative ensures continued care for women diagnosed with breast cancer, either through health insurance or the state-funded treatment system. In addition, 30,005 medical staff members have been trained under the programme, and the initiative has received 27,731 inquiry calls through its dedicated hotline, '100 Million Healthy Lives,' at 15335.

Health application CAIRO – 24 February 2025: Egypt's Ministry of Health and Population has announced the remarkable success of its Women's Health Initiative, which has provided services to over 57 million women across the country. The initiative, aimed at early detection and treatment of breast cancer and other non-communicable diseases, has become a cornerstone of Egypt's public health strategy. The initiative has recorded a total of 57,129,006 visits, demonstrating its widespread impact. The visits include 22,459,695 first-time screenings, 22,256,493 regular follow-ups, and 12,413,817 ad-hoc consultations. The initiative has played a crucial role in the early detection of breast cancer, with 31,418 cases identified. Over 416,000 mammograms have been conducted, and nearly 48,000 tumor samples have been analyzed. Women diagnosed with breast cancer receive free treatment according to the latest international standards. Services are provided through 3,663 health units and 102 hospitals across Egypt. The initiative has also trained over 30,000 medical professionals and handled over 27,000 inquiries through its hotline. Additionally, 870,376 women were referred for advanced examinations, and 105,774 women were examined within mobile units. The initiative targets women starting from the age of 18 and includes screening for non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity, as well as raising awareness about risk factors and providing reproductive health and family planning education. Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, emphasized the importance of regular health check-ups and the effectiveness of early detection. Dr. Hatem Amin, the Executive Director of the initiative, highlighted the comprehensive nature of the services and the commitment to providing free treatment. Dr. Abdel Ghaffar also added the ministry of health is making sure that all the treatment centers are up to date with the newest research, so they can become research centers in the future. The initiative follows the latest global protocols for breast cancer treatment, through 14 centers affiliated with the Ministry of Health and Population, as well as the implementation of these protocols in 14 centers affiliated with the Supreme Council of University Hospitals, all free of charge. The ministry is currently equipping these centers for applied research, aiming to establish advanced research centers in tumor treatment, in line with the political leadership's vision to prioritize public health. The Women's Health Initiative reflects the Egyptian government's commitment to public health and its dedication to providing accessible healthcare services to all citizens.
