While turning 40 can be a daunting milestone for many, Shruti Haasan isn't losing sleep over it. With her milestone birthday coming up in January, the actor-singer is embracing the idea of growing older with candour, humour and a sharp sense of self.
During a recent visit to the city, she sat down with Hyderabad Times for a freewheeling conversation, opening up about letting go of ageist expectations, stepping back from the online world, her thoughts on AI and creativity, and the nostalgic joy of her first-ever recording at six.
'I want to be my honest & authentic self with people when I'm on social media'
There's an ease with which Shruti carries herself, a quality that's sharpened over years of living in the limelight while charting her own course.
Whether it's choosing roles that interest her or stepping back from the noise, she says her choices today are guided more by instinct than compulsion. That's what prompted her recent digital detox. 'I'm not fond of words like attachment or detachment because they carry so many connotations, I wanted to step away from social media for a while.
I think I just needed that,' she explains, adding, 'I want to be honest and authentic with people.

And I wasn't in a state of mind or frame of mind to feel like sharing. You don't have to always be sharing. Everyone should take a digital detox; and everyone should put their phone away for a whole two hours if they can.'
'I'm genuinely excited about AI, it's unavoidable & will develop at an incredible pace'
Technology, ironically, is something Shruti is deeply curious about, particularly the growing presence of AI in creative fields. She references her segment X-Life from the Telugu anthology Pitta Kathalu, directed by
Nag Ashwin
, where she played a character trapped in a tech-saturated future.
'I see the world shifting and it's surreal because it's actually happening just like how the movie predicted,' she says. Still, while she acknowledges the inevitability and power of AI, Shruti draws a firm line around what it can never emulate. 'I'm genuinely excited about AI because it's unavoidable and will develop at an incredible pace. However, I've always believed that while AI can mimic human thinking and leverage immense computational power, it will never be able to replicate the human soul.
The soul is the essence, and that can never be duplicated.'
'I feel truly blessed to have made my singing debut at 6'
From starting as a child singer to delivering chart-toppers like Odiyamma, Shruti's had quite a journey as a singer. 'My father is very supportive and he is such a pookie. My debut song as a child singer was in dad's iconic film Thevar Magan,' she says, adding, 'I remember those days when I was six, practicing in the car while driving to the shoot with my dad for my first song as a singer. Back then, I didn't know
Shivaji Ganesan
as the OG. I used to call him Shivaji thatha, and
Ilaiyaraaja
Sir as Raja uncle. But now, looking back, I feel truly blessed to have made such a debut in singing.' She adds, 'Music is my saviour, I don't know if I'd be alive without it.'

When Adah Sharma called 'The Kerala Story' ‘Magical'; actress felt ‘Blessed' to be part of a pathbreaking film

'The Kerala Story' which courted controversy upon its 2023 release for its take on radicalisation and alleged religious conversion, recently bagged two major honours at the 71st National Film Awards – Best Director and Best Cinematography. The recognition made the moment perfect to revisit Adah's words on how rare it was for a female-led story to strike such a chord with audiences and the box office alike. The Kerala Story's success made her feel 'really lovely and blessed' In a throwback to one of her earlier interview with Firstpost, actress Adah Sharma reflected on the massive and unexpected success of The Kerala Story. 'My life has always been lovely. I live in a nice place with lovely people,' she said with a smile, adding that she hoped to continue growing as a person. 'This was magical since it had never happened with anyone before – a female-centric film doing so well. I feel really lovely and blessed,' Adah shared. 'it's easier to speak the truth' Adah credited her parents for her grounded nature, saying they had always taught her to be honest. 'There's no other way. It's very difficult. But at the same time, it's easier – it's easier to speak the truth and be yourself. That's the easiest way.' Karisma Kapoor's daughter Samaira steps out in stylish black outfit amid family feud over Sunjay Kapur's Rs 30,000 crore fortune

Samaira Kapur, the daughter of Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor and late businessman Sunjay Kapur, was recently spotted stepping out in Mumbai for an evening outing with her friends. The young star kid grabbed attention with her chic fashion choice, a sleek black outfit that looked both trendy and elegant. According to a video shared by InstantBollywood, Samaira was seen quickly getting into her car along with her friend. She styled her hair in a sleek back ponytail, letting a few strands fall freely. Her look was completed with a pair of dainty earrings, a stylish watch, and a few delicate bracelets. Samaira visits Delhi with her mum Just last week, Samaira was seen visiting Delhi, along with her mother Karisma Kapoor and brother Kiaan. While this might seem like a usual family trip, the timing has raised a few eyebrows. Karisma's visit comes in the middle of a reported legal feud over the enormous fortune left behind by her ex-husband Sunjay Kapur. Sunjay passed away in June this year, reportedly due to a cardiac arrest caused by accidentally swallowing a bee during a polo match. His last rites were performed in Delhi. Karisma has no stake in fortune With rumours flying around that Karisma might be involved in matters linked to Sunjay's Rs 30,000 crore estate, a source close to the family has now set the record straight. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like How to Ease Knee Pain Without Injections or Side Effects Learn More Undo The source told ETimes, Karisma is not part of any property-related talks. 'Karisma Kapoor is not involved in any inheritance or property-related matters,' said a source close to the family. 'She has no claim, nor is she seeking any share in the estate. Her only concern is the well-being and future of her children.' Children are rightful heirs to the estate Karisma and Sunjay were married in 2003 and got divorced in 2016 after a rocky relationship. They have two children together, Samaira and Kiaan. The same source confirmed that the children are the rightful heirs to their father's wealth. 'The children will receive what is due to them,' the source added. 'Karisma's focus remains entirely on them.' Sunjay's mother seeks police probe Meanwhile, the drama surrounding the estate has taken a serious turn. Rani Kapur, Sunjay's mother and former chairperson of Sona Comstar, has formally reached out to the UK authorities. She has asked for a full investigation into what she describes as the 'unexplained circumstances' surrounding her son's death. According to ANI, Rani Kapur filed an official criminal complaint with British police and stressed the urgency of a proper probe. Media reports also suggest that she believes something more serious may have happened. Rani claims to have 'credible and concerning evidence… that suggests his (Sunjay Kapur's) death may not have been accidental or natural, but may have involved foul play, including possibility of murder, abetment, conspiracy, fraud, and forgery. 'Kingdom' box office collection day 5: Vijay Deverakonda's spy action film sees a dip; collects Rs 43.15 crore domestically

Picture Credit: X Vijay Deverakonda 's latest release, 'Kingdom', seems to be losing some of its early momentum after the film had seen an amazing opening at the box office. Directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri , the action-packed drama opened to mostly positive reviews and registered one of the strongest openings of Vijay 's career. However, as the weekdays set in, the film's collection appears to be declining. Kingdom Movie Review According to early estimates from Sacnilk, Kingdom earned around Rs 2.25 crore net on its fifth day (Monday), across all languages in India. With this, the film's total Indian net collection stands at an estimated Rs 43.15 crore after five days. While the opening weekend numbers were impressive, with Day 1 minting over Rs 18 crore, Day 2 Rs 7.5 crore, Day 3 Rs 8 crore, Day 4 Rs 7.4 crore and Day 5 Rs 2.25 crore. The makers of the film on social media shared that the film has collected over Rs 82 crore worldwide. Theatre occupancy 'Kingdom,' which had a strong start in the Telugu states, saw a noticeable decline in theatre occupancy on Monday. As per data, the film registered an overall Telugu occupancy of 16.38% on August 4. Here's how the numbers played out across the day, morning shows: 13.67%, afternoon shows: 17.69%, evening shows: 15.71% and night shows: 18.44%. Though night shows performed slightly better, the overall occupancy suggests a fairly common weekday slump. In Tamil Nadu, the film's performance has been relatively modest since its release. On Monday, Kingdom recorded an overall Tamil occupancy of just 11.39%. The breakdown across the day is as follows morning shows: 9.99%, afternoon shows: 12.02%, evening shows: 8.81% and night shows: 14.73%. About the film 'Kingdom' stars Vijay Deverakonda as Constable Surya 'Suri,' who goes undercover to topple a smuggling cartel in Sri Lanka, hoping to reunite with his estranged brother, Siva, played by Satyadev. Bhagyashri Borse plays the female lead, Dr. Madhu, who supports Suri in his mission. The film also features Ayyappa P Sharma and Venkitesh in key roles.
