About 10,00 people are taking part in the Brighton half-marathon
More than 10,000 runners are preparing to take part in the 35th Brighton Half Marathon.The event kicks off at at 09:30 GMT, starting and ending at Hove Lawns.The race will follow its usual route, despite demolition work on the Royal Albion hotel which led to the seafront road being closed for a week.Tens of thousands of spectators are expected to line the route, with comedian and actor Joe Wilkinson officially starting the race.
He will also be taking part, to raise money for the charity Sussex Beacon, as will Kemptown MP Chris Ward.Some bus routes have been diverted, with information available on the Brighton and Hove Buses website.will also be in place until 14:00 GMT.
Among the runners will be Carmen Somerset and Daniel Creed, who got married on Saturday.Also running is Chris Terrill, who inadvertently set a new world record in the 2024 Brighton Marathon, when he ran it on crutches after a hip replacement operation.BBC Radio Sussex's Alison Ferns, reporting from the starting line, said: "They couldn't have ordered better weather."The sky is blue, people are smiling, in such good spirits."The race will be marshalled by 450 volunteers.

Chelsea transfer target 'speeds away from training ground' as move collapses
Jamie Gittens was hoping to seal a move to Chelsea prior to the Club World Cup kicking off in the USA, but he has now been named in Borussia Dortmund's squad Chelsea transfer target Jamie Bynoe-Gittens appears to be less than impressed that his move to the Blues failed to go through before the Club World Cup deadline. England under-21 winger Gittens, 20, has his heart set on a move to Stamford Bridge, and has been receptive to Chelsea's advances ever since the Premier League outfit firmed up their interest in a player who was briefly in their own academy. Chelsea have reportedly agreed a seven-year contract with the former Manchester City youngster, but on Tuesday they saw their £42million bid for his services rejected by Borussia Dortmund ahead of the 7pm GMT Club World Cup transfer deadline. The Bundesliga outfit then named Gittens in their 28-man squad for the tournament in the US, and he was filmed by a local reporter speeding away from the club's training ground having been left 'very frustrated' by the episode. The failure to sign Gittens completed a disappointing day for Chelsea, who have also failed in their move for the AC Milan and France goalkeeper Mike Maignan. The 30-year-old has made it clear that he wants to join the Blues, and while Chelsea didn't register a bid they do still hope to make a move for him later in the summer, with Maignan having one year remaining on his Milan contract. Sky Germany also report that Chelsea failed to reach an agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt for their forward Hugo Ekitike, causing the Blues to pull the plug on a deal for him before the Club World Cup. Liverpool also remain interested in the Frenchman. Gittens will now hope that a switch to Chelsea can be resurrected later in the summer, and it will be interesting to note if he appears for Dortmund in their Club World Cup group stage matches against Brazil's Fluminense in New Jersey on June 17, South African side Mamelodi Sundowns in Cincinnati on June 21 and Japanese outfit Ulsan HD, also in Cincinnati, on June 25. Chelsea's group stage fixtures are all one day prior to Dortmund's. The Blues begin their campaign against MLS side LAFC in Atlanta before facing Brazil's Flamengo and Tunisia's Esperance in Philadelphia.

Arsenal get Benjamin Sesko green light as star stands ground over £60m transfer
Benjamin Sesko was targeted by Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal for a £60m switch in time for the Club World Cup, but that deadline has now passed and Arsenal could swoop in Arsenal will be able to proceed with a move for RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko after the Slovenia international wasn't tempted to make a money-spinning switch to Saudi Arabia in time to play at the Club World Cup. Saudi outfit Al Hilal had settled on Sesko as their third target in the hunt for a big name forward to join Aleksandar Mitrovic in their squad for the tournament in the US this summer. But they had to complete a deal by 7pm GMT on Tuesday in order to register new players for the group stages. Al Hilal face Real Madrid in their Club World Cup opener next Wednesday, and they are hoping to use the tournament to prove that Saudi sides have made giant strides forward in recent years despite criticism of their Pro League. One of the key ways they are seeking to do that is of course cash, but Al Hilal failed in pursuits of Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres before Sesko, who is seeking to leave Leipzig this summer but would rather stay in Europe. Those forward snubs come after Al Hilal, who last week appointed Simone Inzaghi as their new boss, were also turned down by Bruno Fernandes, who opted not to join his Portugal team-mates Joao Cancelo and Ruben Neves in Saudi Arabia and instead stay at Manchester United. Arsenal have been chasing Sesko for a year, and came close to completing a deal for the 22-year-old last summer. He has remained on their radar ever since, along with the in-demand Gyokeres and Newcastle hotshot Alexander Isak. And with interest from a wide range of clubs in Gyokeres and Isak commanding a fee of north of £100million, the Slovenian is seen as the easier player to sign. Leipzig failed to qualify for European football this season despite 21 goals in 45 games in all competitions for Sesko, and the Bundesliga outfit are now set to part ways with both the centre forward and attacking midfielder Xavi Simons in order to raise cash. Sesko could earn up to four times as much money at Al Hilal than he'd get at Arsenal, and a while a move there cannot be ruled out once the transfer window reopens again next Monday, the fact that he has rebuffed this interest looks to be a good sign for the Gunners. BBC Antiques Roadshow guest speechless as £1 vase bought at boot sale makes staggering value

More info Antiques Roadshow's Eric Knowles was left gobsmacked when a glass vase, purchased for a mere £1 at a car boot sale, was valued at an astonishing amount. A woman from Ayrshire, who wished to remain anonymous, brought the vase to the BBC show for evaluation, not anticipating the staggering valuation she would receive. The vase was identified as a 1929 piece by famed French designer René Lalique, after being scrutinised by experts at Dumfries House near Cumnock, and was valued at a minimum of £25,000. The five-inch-tall glass vase was crafted using an ancient technique known as cire perdue. This complex method involves creating a wax model that is encased in plaster, then melted away and replaced with molten glass, with the plaster mould being broken away once the glass cools to reveal the final creation. The market value for Lalique pieces has seen a significant increase in recent years. Antiques Roadshow expert Eric Knowles shared his excitement with the Irvine Herald: "It's wonderful to find treasures like this beautiful vase during the programme's filming," reports the Express. (Image: BBC) He continued: "It certainly gives us all a buzz and we thoroughly enjoy meeting people everywhere we go. I've been waiting over 25 years for such a piece to come in, and this was the stuff of dreams. They'd dumped it in the attic after the plant in it died and were about to throw it away. We had a lot of clouds in Dumfries, but this was the cloud with a silver lining. It's worth at least £25,000." The vase ultimately fetched a whopping £32,450 at auction, exceeding its previous valuation by £7,000. This follows a rerun of the beloved BBC programme, which aired on Sunday, June 8. Viewers were transported to Brodie Castle in Scotland, where a parade of treasures awaited appraisal. Among them was a man who wowed Richard with a 1960s Rolex GMT-Master, inherited from his uncle. Richard, peering intently at the watch, informed the owner: "All Rolex collectors refer to these things by their reference number," and "You know as well as I do, because it says so on the dial, that it's a GMT-Master." (Image: BBC) Richard explained: "It's the reference 1675, which is the classic GMT-Master. When you said 60s, I think we could fairly safely say 1960 to 1961, so that all fits in." Upon closer inspection, Richard was thrilled to find the watch unaltered, noting that many watches are often modified during servicing, much to collectors' dismay. He said: "They would've changed the bezel and they would've changed the dial with an upgrade," before adding:"You would've had it back thinking, 'Oh, it looks like new'. Collectors hate that, it's absolutely original, spot-on." The expert told the owner: "It's a Rolex product, of course, but it says 'Made in the USA'. So perhaps he specified that he did not want the oyster bracelet; he wanted a jubilee bracelet, and they put this one on for him. "Which sort of detracts from it a little bit, probably detracts from it by a couple of thousand pounds."
