Third person charged with murder of Sunshine Coast man Zdravko Bilic

Police have charged a third person with the murder of a Sunshine Coast man who was found dead in his front yard last week.
Zdravko Bilic, 57, was allegedly murdered last Sunday night during an alleged break-in.
His body was discovered outside his Warana home the next day, with two stab wounds to his stomach.
An 18-year-old woman from Bethania, south of Brisbane, was charged with murder on Tuesday.
She was also charged with unauthorised use of a motor vehicle, enter dwelling with intent by break, enter dwelling and commit, attempted enter premises with intent to commit indictable offence, and attempted enter dwelling and commit.
She is expected to appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
It follows the arrest of two teenage boys, aged 15 and 17, who were charged with his murder last Thursday.
Their cases were mentioned in the Maroochydore Children's Court last week, where they were remanded in custody.
Last week, Detective Inspector Chris Toohey said Queensland Police would allege the murder occurred at around 11:30pm on Sunday, July 13, during an altercation after an alleged break-in.
The victim's wife, skincare business founder Gry Tomte, was interstate at the time.
Mr Bilic's body was discovered when Ms Tomte asked a neighbour to check on him because she had not heard from him on Monday.
Mr Bilic has been remembered as a "gentle person" with a "beautiful energy" who was heavily involved in the local community.
In a statement on social media last week, Ms Tomte said he was her "everything".
"There is no way I can capture the immense grief I feel over losing the most beautiful man. My world for 28 years," she wrote.

Enough is enough: the CFMEU stain on our society must be removed

The disclosures by The Age this week involving a gangland associate, a Gold Coast developer and the CFMEU are disturbing. Not only because they are innately concerning, but also because they show, yet again, that the cancerous network of thuggery, intimidation and misfeasance that contaminates business, industry and wider society throughout this country continues. It is a stain on the nation. The Age reported that Melbourne gangland associate John Khoury was paid $110,000 by Queensland-Melbourne joint venture Glen Q to help secure industrial peace on the Gold Coast, where the developer was building a 16-level project at Broadbeach. A meeting was held between influential CFMEU figures and Khoury. This occurred four months after the federal government forced the union into administration. There is no suggestion the union attendees have done the wrong thing, and the administration has also cleared them. But the payment to Khoury by the developer was uncovered during federal police raids. A money trail was thus revealed between a front company in the name of Khoury's accountant to Glen Q's project. Also involved was Nick Maric, a Melbourne construction boss now a Queensland government contractor, who has separately retained the services of Khoury and Mick Gatto to deal with the CFMEU. Glen Q's payment to Khoury focuses light on how business and construction is done. Our reporting also highlights the rivalry between the CFMEU and the Australian Workers' Union, with representatives of the latter supporting two firms led by figures with criminal links to foil the CFMEU.

'Still on a call with someone': Details emerge in mysterious death of Australian tourist found 'with a mobile phone resting on his chest' in Thai hotel room

A 23-year-old Australian tourist has been found dead inside a hotel room in Thailand, just one day before he was due to return home. The man, who held Australian citizenship and was born in India, was discovered by housekeeping staff at a hotel in the Thepkrasattri district of Phuket on Wednesday morning. The shocking discovery prompted hotel staff to immediately alert Thai police. 'I saw him lying there with a mobile phone resting on his chest. He was still on a call with someone. The line hadn't been disconnected, and he had died like that. There were no signs of struggle or anything suspicious,' said Police Lieutenant Colonel Thanom Thongpaen from Thalang district station. 'It appeared he had been on the call for about 12 hours. The phone screen had gone dark, but we could still see the call duration and confirm he was on a call. 'We don't know who he was talking to. I tried speaking into the phone, but there was no response. The line remained active, but there was no voice on the other end. The phone was locked, so we couldn't examine it further.' The man was found wearing a black T-shirt and lying motionless on the bed. Bandages were visible on his elbow and wrist, believed to be from a motorcycle accident he had suffered the day prior. Police said there were no signs of forced entry, assault or theft in the room. There were no illegal drugs or alcohol present, only blister packs containing around 10 over-the-counter painkillers and anti-inflammatory tablets, which hotel staff had purchased for him at his request following the crash. 'He likely took the medication before he passed away,' Thongpaen added. 'There is no clear cause of death at this stage, but there are no signs of foul play in this case.' Security footage showed the man had been travelling alone, although friends, also Australians, had reportedly crossed paths with him in Phuket during their separate trips. One friend had dropped him off at the hotel the night before. Hotel staff were able to contact that friend using details provided at check-in. 'One of the hotel staff had a phone number for his friend, who had helped him check in, so the hotel contacted that friend to inform them of his death,' said Thongpaen. The man's family has reportedly requested that no autopsy be conducted and expressed a wish to repatriate his body to Australia as soon as possible. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed it is assisting the family. 'The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is providing consular assistance to the family of an Australian who died in Thailand,' a spokesperson said. Thai police say the investigation remains open pending further medical examination, although at this stage, there is no indication of suspicious circumstances.
