Kolin Schuler of Horse Creek Academy takes 2nd at Panthers Spelling Bee, advances to nationals
AIKEN, S.C. (WJBF) – Horse Creek Academy is thrilled to announce that 6th grader Kolin Schuler has earned 2nd place at the Carolina Panthers Regional SpellingBee, presented by Bank of America, held on Saturday, March 8, in Charlotte, NC.
With this incredible achievement, Kolin has secured his place at the 2025 Scripps National SpellingBee in Washington, D.C., this May.
Kolin's spelling success began earlier this year when he was crowned Horse Creek Academy's SpellingBee Champion in January.
His outstanding performance at regionals now propels him onto the national stage, where he will represent South Carolina at the Scripps National SpellingBee, taking place May 27-29, 2025.
The Carolina Panthers Regional SpellingBee is a prestigious competition, offering top finishers the opportunity to advance to the national level.
As the South Carolina runner-up, Kolin has earned his spot among the nation's best spellers, continuing HCA's proud tradition of academic excellence.
To celebrate this outstanding achievement, Horse Creek Academy will be hosting a pep rally this spring to honor Kolin and cheer him on as he prepares for the national competition.
'Kolin's accomplishment is such a big deal, and we couldn't be prouder! He's put in the work, stayed focused, and now he's representing South Carolina on the biggest stage in spelling. The entire HCA Village is behind him, and we can't wait to celebrate him at our pep rally and cheer him on in Washington, D.C.!'
Horse Creek Academy congratulates Kolin on this remarkable accomplishment and looks forward to supporting him on this exciting journey.

Visa, Street Soccer USA and Bank of America Join Forces to Expand Access to Soccer in Communities Across the United States
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--At a ribbon-cutting event in San Francisco, Visa, Street Soccer USA (SSUSA) and Bank of America announced today an initiative to expand access to soccer across the United States. Harnessing the unifying power of soccer, the companies will provide open park space in six cities to bring people together, foster youth development, and strengthen community ties through sport and purpose-driven programming. 'This movement is about scale, sustainability, and impact,' said Lawrence Cann, Co-Founder and President of Street Soccer USA. 'Through this partnership, we're creating more than soccer parks—we're building platforms for progress,' said Kim Lawrence, President, North America, Visa. 'Each park represents a step toward stronger, more connected communities. By combining the power of sports with access to education and opportunity, we're helping individuals and families move forward—one goal, one lesson, and one connection at a time.' 'Sports bring communities together, and over the next few years, the entire world will come together for soccer in North America,' said David Tyrie, President, Marketing, Digital and Specialized Consumer Client Solutions at Bank of America. 'These fields will provide high-quality spaces where the lessons of soccer – teamwork, goal-setting, preparation and determination – come to life for the next generation.' Boston marathon raised $50M+ for charity in 2025, setting record
The 2025 Boston Marathon raised $50.4 million for charity, surpassing a single-year record set in 2024, the Boston Athletic Association announced. The total combines funds raised through 176 non-profit organizations in the Bank of America Boston Marathon Official Charity Program, as well as donations and fundraising from those who participated in the race. Since the official charity program launched in 1989, more than $600 million has been raised. The charity program makes up about 10% of the field in the marathon, with organizations recruiting athletes to raise money for their cause. Organizations participating in the charity program include the Boys and Girls Club of Boston, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and World Central Kitchen. A full list is published on the association's website. 'Every year, participants and community members raise the bar and elevate the fundraising impact for meaningful causes throughout the community,' said Nicole Juri, director of development for the BAA. 'Their uplifting effect extends well beyond the 26.2-mile racecourse of the Boston Marathon. Athletes take pride in adding meaning to every step of their marathon journey, and together set new records in 2025.' In an effort to boost the fundraising, the association held a giving day on March 20, offering incentives for donations throughout the day. Nearly $2 million — $1.87 million — was raised that day. The 2025 total shows the 'power of the Boston Marathon,' said Bank of America Marketing, Digital and Specialized Consumer Client Solutions President David Tyrie. 'Anything is possible when athletes from around the world, volunteers, local businesses, supporters and many more unite in the spirit of determination, selflessness and giving.'
