Patricia McMahon has started attended some of Ms Singhal's yoga classes after a friend recommended them to her.She said "it's been great" and "the breathing exercises in particular have been very relaxing".Ms McMahon added: "This has been really helpful especially when you're trying to relax after a stressful day at work".
Ms Singhal, who learned how to practise yoga in her home country, said the aim was to teach the sessions on the beach."It feels so much more powerful in nature," she said."You just show up and when you start practising over and over you will start getting flexible... having yoga in your life helps you find that stillness in your body."Ms Singhal praised the wider community in Jersey for welcoming herself and husband Turban Banerjee to the island.
'Fell in love'
Mr Banerjee said he first came to Jersey two years ago for a work project."I went out to the beach in St Helier and immediately fell in love," he said."Everyone helps each other and we are really grateful and happy that we moved here."Ms Singhal added: "People are so amazing, they're just so warm and people smile at you as you pass, which you don't find in a lot of other places."More information on the yoga sessions is available on Facebook.

India to resume issuing tourist visas to Chinese citizens

India will resume granting tourist visas to Chinese nationals from Thursday in a new step to normalise Delhi's ties with Beijing, officials announced on Wednesday. The diplomatic restoration of tourist visas comes after a gap of five years due to degradation of ties between India and China following a 2020 military clash between their troops along the disputed Himalayan border. The embassy of India in China issued a statement on Wednesday and said that Chinese citizens can apply for a tourist visa to India after completing an online application, scheduling an appointment and personally submitting their passport and other important documents needed to obtain a visa. These documents can be submitted to the Indian visa application centres in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou in south China's Guangdong province. 'Please be informed that all passport withdrawal requests for applications submitted in the India Visa Application Centre in Beijing must be accompanied by a passport withdrawal letter,' the embassy statement said. The statement was also shared on the embassy's social media platform Weibo. Indian Armed Forces and People's Liberation Army soldiers clashed in the Himalayan region's Galwan Valley in June 2020. At least 20 Indian and four Chinese soldiers were killed in the neighbours' first deadly military confrontation since 1975. Both armies came to blows and engaged in a physical clash over China's two tents and observation towers that India said were built on its side of the de-facto border, and which its troops set on fire after they were discovered by a patrol. About 900 soldiers of both sides were involved in the hand-to-hand combat that followed, when they beat each other with rocks and wooden sticks embedded with nails. The skirmish caused Indo-China ties to plummet to their lowest in decades as New Delhi and Beijing took steps to pause their bilateral engagements and trade. New Delhi heightened scrutiny of investments from China, banned popular Chinese mobile apps, and cut direct passenger air routes to China. According to India's defence minister Rajnath Singh, the military stand-off showed China's disregard for a two-way pact between both the countries. China suspended visas to Indian citizens and other foreigners around the same time due to the Covid-19 pandemic but lifted those restrictions in 2022, when it resumed issuing visas for students and business travellers. Tourist visas for Indian nationals remained restricted until March this year, when both countries agreed to resume direct air service. However, both Asian giants have taken steps to improve their relations in the past one year, with India and China holding several high-level talks between the top leaders – Chinese president Xi Jinping and prime minister Narendra Modi. The two met in Russia in October. In July this year, India's foreign minister told his Chinese counterpart that both countries must resolve border friction, pull back troops and avoid "restrictive trade measures" to normalise their relationship. Beijing has acknowledged Delhi's latest positive move, said Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun. "China is ready to maintain communication and consultation with India and constantly improve the level of personal exchanges between the two countries," he said.

Air India plane skids off runway and busts three tires on landing at Mumbai

India plane skidded off a runway and burst three of its tires as it came in to land in Mumbai on Monday. The plane, an Airbus A320, suffered damage to the underside of an engine, forcing the runway at Mumbai International Airport to shut down amid heavy rain in the region. Air India flight AI2744, which had flown from the Indian city of Kochi, lost control and veered off the airport's main runway onto an unpaved area before coming to a stop on a taxiway. Photos of the plane showed significant damage to the outermost part of the engine, as well as clumps of wet grass lodged into its wing. A spokesperson for Air India said: 'Flight AI2744, operating from Kochi to Mumbai on 21 July 2025, experienced heavy rain during landing, resulting in a runway excursion after touchdown. 'The aircraft taxied safely to the gate and all passengers and crew members have since disembarked. The aircraft has been grounded for checks. 'The safety of passengers and crew remain our top priority.' Mumbai International Airport said in a statement that its primary runway suffered 'minor damages' during the incident. The airport added that a backup runway has now been 'activated' to allow planes to arrive and depart. Air India is already facing heavy scrutiny following the release of a preliminary report into the deadly crash of one of its Boeing 787 Dreamliners in the Indian city of Ahmedabad last month, killing 260 people.

‘As a new agent, I didn't know the value in escorted touring – but this trip changed my mind'

My fam trip with Travelsphere and Just You was incredibly beneficial and has significantly enhanced my understanding of touring holidays, both for couples and for solo travellers. Being quite new to travel, I didn't feel I had a great knowledge of this holiday type, and so, having the opportunity to experience one of these tours first-hand was truly eye-opening. It allowed me to appreciate the sheer amount of value in touring, from the expertly designed itineraries to the knowledgeable, friendly tour manager and guide who made every destination come alive. Kirstie, our tour manager, stayed in the hotel with us and was with the group throughout. Ivan, our local guide, was so passionate about his country and this really did shine through. I genuinely believed that what he did not know about the country was not worth knowing. The standard of accommodation was consistently high; we stayed at the AX Odycy in Qawra. The hotel had a central location and a lovely adult-only rooftop pool that guests could experience during their free days. Every logistical detail was taken care of, which ensured a smooth, stress-free journey – something that many clients are looking for. One of the standout aspects of the trip was witnessing how both brands meet the needs of their respective audiences. Travelsphere offers a warm and welcoming group experience that's ideal for couples and friends travelling together, while Just You focuses exclusively on solo travellers, creating an environment that feels inclusive, sociable, and empowering. As a group, we were given information advising us of some differences between the two brands, for example Just You guests are guaranteed a room for sole occupancy and should they prefer to dine as part of a group, then there is always that option. There was a real sense of community on the tour, which contributed to a genuinely enjoyable experience. Everyone had the opportunity to connect and enjoy the destinations together, yet there was also room for personal time and space when needed. There were many highlights across the five days, visiting Valletta, the Blue Grotto and Mdina, but I particularly enjoyed our time on Gozo – it has the perfect blend of natural beauty, history and charm. The food also made a good impression – the famous pea pasties, or pastizzi tal pizelli, were very tasty, as were the traditional farmhouse lunches, where we learnt about Malta's rich olive oil heritage and how they make traditional Maltese cheese. The programme also included a folklore dinner show, which featured local performers who told the story of Maltese history through dance. There was a little audience participation too, where some of us were chosen to join them on the dance floor.
