Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae) rapper Silentó sentenced to 30 years for killing cousin

Rapper Silentó has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for the fatal shooting of his cousin, four years ago. In 2021, the musician best known for his viral song Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae) was arrested on charges relating to the death of Frederick Rooks. Rooks, 34, was found with multiple gunshot wounds on January 21 and died from his injuries. Silentó, real name Ricky Lamar Hawk, pleaded guilty but mentally ill to the charges and took a plea deal to reduce the charges, as reported by Variety. He pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and concealing the death of another. Another felony murder charge was dropped as part of this plea agreement. Hawk, 27, will serve 30 years in prison but will get credit for time served, having been behind bars since February 2021. At the time of his arrest, his publicist, Chanel Hudson, posted on social media about his mental health issues. She wrote: 'Over the past several years, Ricky has been suffering immensely from a series of mental illnesses. We will continue in his efforts of treatment, but we ask in the meantime the public uplift him and his family in immediate prayer & positive energy!!' He had previously been arrested in 2020 after allegedly wielding a hatchet while searching for his girlfriend. According to police reports of the incident, he had walked into a random house demanding to see his girlfriend until a friend arrived and informed him it was the wrong home. Another alleged incident in late 2020 saw the rapper pulled over on his way from a nightclub when he was spotted driving at 143mph in a 65mph zone. He was reportedly swerving in and out of cars and said he was 'not a regular person' and claimed people were following him. Hawk rose to fame in 2015 with debut single Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae), which was released while he was still in high school. The song and its accompanying dance became one of the biggest trends of the year, reaching number three on the Billboard Hot 100. More Trending Despite some critics blasting the track as irritating, Watch Me earned him a nomination for Song of the Summer at the MTV Video Music Awards. The track was also nominated for R&B/Hip-Hop Song at the Teen Choice Awards the same year, although it did not win either award. Hawk has not seen the heights of fame since, with Hudson claiming he had struggled to cope and attempted suicide in the years after his hit. He confessed to the killing shortly after Rooks' body was found and authorities matched bullet casings to the gun he had in his possession during the arrest. Got a story? Mariah Carey ‘did not like' role Eminem asked her to play in biopic film

Eminem wanted Mariah Carey to play his alcoholic mother in his 2002 film debut, 8 Mile, according to producer Damion Young. Young, who worked with Carey on her 1998 single 'I Still Believe', introduced Eminem to Carey, who had expressed interest in film roles. Carey allegedly asked for Eminem 's number after learning the meeting was about a film role, despite initially declining to meet. During the call, Eminem suggested Carey play his mother, which Young said she 'did not like that s*** at all' due to her insecurities. 8 Mile, based on Eminem's early career, saw him playing an aspiring rapper and featured the hit song ' Lose Yourself, ' which won an Oscar for Best Original Song.

Mariah Carey mercilessly mocked over BET Awards performance as fans accuse her of lip syncing

Mariah Carey made a jaw-dropping appearance at the BET Awards on Monday night. Not only did the legendary diva, 56, receive the coveted Icon Awards, she was also one of the best-dressed stars at the event. However, some fans were underwhelmed when Mimi took to the stage to perform her new single Type Dangerous. Despite looking like a million bucks, the Honey hitmaker barely moved while performing the hip-hop track. 'I love Mariah but one thing she's not gonna do is dance! Well still love her music though,' commented one. 'She's been in this industry too long to just be standing there like that,' wrote another. 'I remember when Mariah divorced Tommy [Mottola] and danced for a whole album before she decided that was enough,' joked a third. One naysayer even compared Mariah to her longtime rival Jennifer Lopez. 'The way she needs help going down a small flight of stairs is hilarious, and then you have JLo doing back flips and front flips on stage dancing salsa and hip hop at the level of 20- to 30-year-old professional dancers,' they wrote. 'She is the most boring entertainer I've ever seen,' added another. Some fans also claimed that songstress may have been lip syncing her performance. 'Mariah please lip sync more convincingly!!' wrote one, while another wrote, 'Mariah was stiff as hell lip syncing up there but that's MOTHER so I'll let it slide.' Despite some backlash, many others defended Mariah and insisted that she'd earned the right to perform however she wants to after such a long and illustrious career. 'The only woman in the industry that cannot move the entire time and still shut the stage down,' gushed one. 'Don't disrespect the legend. Expecting Mariah to dance is like expecting Aretha (RIP) to dance. DIVAS don't dance,' wrote another. While her performance left a little to be desired, Mimi certainly turned heads with her ageless good looks at the awards show. The 56-year-old looked shockingly youthful in a stunning gold sequined minidress to perform her latest hit. The beauty, who wore her long blond hair pin straight with a middle part, also pulled out a glittering white corset dress for later in the ceremony. It had a prominent bust and sparkling sequins that complemented the tear-shaped diamonds on her necklaces and earrings, as well as her glittering bracelets. She was honored with the BET Ultimate Icon Award along with other stars, including Jamie Foxx, Snoop Dogg and Kirk Franklin. Mariah is currently preparing to release her 16th studio album. According to Forbes, the songstress, who has had 19 number one singles, is aiming to get her 20th chart topper with her new single Type Dangerous. 'She's fighting to stay contemporary,' her longtime producer LA Reid told the publication. Mariah left her label Epic Records, who released her last album Caution, to partner with new music company Gamma for her comeback.
