Bengaluru man with three wives, nine children held for serial burglaries with teenage son as accomplice: Report
A 35-year-old man leading a complex personal life with three wives and nine children has been arrested by Bengaluru's Electronics City police for a string of burglaries committed over the years — the latest with help from his 16-year-old son. Identified as Babajan, the accused had no steady source of income and resorted to theft to sustain his scattered family across Karnataka, according to a Times of India report.

Babajan's personal life was as unconventional as his crimes. He maintained separate households for each of his wives — living in Srirangapatna, Anekal, and Chikkaballapura — and moved between them at will. With the pressure of supporting multiple families and no regular employment, police say Babajan turned to house thefts nearly eight years ago as a means to survive.
Recently, he brought his teenage son into the criminal fold, allegedly believing that the law is lenient toward juveniles. Their most recent theft occurred on May 7 in Bettadasanapura, where they stole gold, silver, and cash worth ₹4.6 lakh from the home of a 56-year-old woman, Rojamma. She had momentarily gone to the terrace to dry clothes, leaving the door open — a vulnerability the father-son duo exploited. While the boy sneaked in and picked up the valuables, Babajan waited outside, keeping watch.
Police investigations revealed that this had become a pattern — Babajan would scan for homes with open doors or distracted residents, drop his son nearby, and give a signal when it was safe to enter. He reportedly trained the boy specifically for daylight burglaries.
Their crime spree came to an end on May 13 when Inspector Naveen GM and his team tracked Babajan to Mylasandra using CCTV footage. Upon interrogation, he confessed to involving his son in thefts and detailed his modus operandi.

So far, police have linked Babajan to nine burglary cases and recovered 188 grams of gold, 550 grams of silver, and a two-wheeler used in the crimes. The case has raised serious concerns about the use of minors in criminal activities and the long-term impact of such exploitation within families.

'We were told in the morning that passes could be purchased. Later, we heard they were being handed out at the stadium. So many, like me, landed up hoping to get one,' said Rakesh Prakash, a software engineer. By the afternoon, more than 50,000 people had gathered within a 1-km radius of the venue. Videos showed fans climbing vehicles, scaling walls, and chanting 'RCB! RCB!' while police struggled to manage the crowd. A speeding Innova overturned and crashed in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur on Monday after the driver allegedly opened the door to spit gutkha while driving at over 100 kmph, resulting in the death of a businessman and leaving two others critically injured. The Innova rolled over several times on the road, hitting two other vehicles and injuring one of their drivers, Times of India reported. Quoting police, the report said the man who died was Jackie Gehi, 31, a cloth trader from Chakarbhatha on the outskirts of Bilaspur, about 100 km from Raipur. He had attended a late-night party on Sunday and had called his friend Akash Chandani around 1.30 am to pick him up. Akash arrived with his friend Pankaj Chhabra to pick up Jackie Gehi after the party. Akash was behind the wheel, Pankaj sat in the front passenger seat, and Jackie was seated in the back. While driving on the Bilaspur-Raipur highway, Akash suddenly opened the door to spit gutkha. This caused him to immediately lose control of the vehicle, which swerved into the divider and overturned several times. The impact was so strong that all three occupants were thrown out of the vehicle as it hurtled down the highway. Jackie was violently flung and hit a metal structure near the divider, suffering fatal injuries to his chest, head, and shoulders. Jackie Gehi died on the spot, while Akash and Pankaj were also thrown from the vehicle, hitting the ground hard and sustaining serious injuries. The runaway Innova then collided with a parked commercial vehicle, overturned four to five more times, and finally crashed into a stationary Ertiga, injuring its driver, who had no time to start the engine or escape, the report added. The terrifying accident was captured on CCTV footage, which shows the vehicle tumbling along the road and one of the passengers being ejected and crashing into a pole. Emergency responders arrived quickly after passersby alerted the authorities. The police cordoned off the area and rushed the injured to the hospital. The damaged vehicles and debris were later cleared from the road.

The incident led to the death of a 31-year-old businessman and left three others injured, two of them critically. Fatal crash on Bilaspur-Raipur highway The accident occurred on the Bilaspur-Raipur highway when the driver, reportedly travelling at over 100 kmph, lost control of the vehicle while spitting gutkha. The Innova flipped multiple times, crashing into two vehicles and injuring an additional person. The deceased has been identified as Jackie Gehi, a cloth merchant from Chakarbhatha, located on the outskirts of Bilaspur. Police said Gehi had attended a late-night party on Sunday, June 1, and had called his friend Akash Chandani for a ride home. Chandani arrived with another friend, Pankaj Chhabra. Jackie sat in the back, while Pankaj occupied the front passenger seat. Door opened at high speed led to loss of control While driving at high speed, Akash allegedly opened the driver-side door to spit gutkha, which caused the vehicle to destabilise and flip violently. The car hit a divider, somersaulted several times, and collided with a stationary commercial vehicle before crashing into a Maruti Ertiga. The impact was so intense that all three occupants were ejected from the Innova. Jackie was flung into a roadside metal pole and sustained fatal injuries to his chest, head, and shoulders. He died on the spot. Akash and Pankaj suffered serious injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital. Chain collision injures another As the Innova continued to careen across the highway, it slammed into a parked commercial vehicle and then crashed into an Ertiga. The Ertiga driver, who was seated inside and had not yet started the engine, was also injured in the collision. CCTV footage captured the horrific sequence of events, showing the vehicle flipping across the road and a passenger being hurled into a pole. Police cordoned off the accident site and facilitated emergency medical aid for the injured. The mangled remains of the Innova were later cleared from the highway. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
