Gutkha spitting at 100 kmph triggers crash in Chhattisgarh; 1 killed
A reckless act behind the wheel turned deadly in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur district on Monday, after a speeding Toyota Innova crashed when its driver opened the door mid-drive to spit gutkha, reported the Times of India. The incident led to the death of a 31-year-old businessman and left three others injured, two of them critically.
Fatal crash on Bilaspur-Raipur highway
The accident occurred on the Bilaspur-Raipur highway when the driver, reportedly travelling at over 100 kmph, lost control of the vehicle while spitting gutkha. The Innova flipped multiple times, crashing into two vehicles and injuring an additional person.
The deceased has been identified as Jackie Gehi, a cloth merchant from Chakarbhatha, located on the outskirts of Bilaspur. Police said Gehi had attended a late-night party on Sunday, June 1, and had called his friend Akash Chandani for a ride home. Chandani arrived with another friend, Pankaj Chhabra. Jackie sat in the back, while Pankaj occupied the front passenger seat.
Door opened at high speed led to loss of control
While driving at high speed, Akash allegedly opened the driver-side door to spit gutkha, which caused the vehicle to destabilise and flip violently. The car hit a divider, somersaulted several times, and collided with a stationary commercial vehicle before crashing into a Maruti Ertiga.
The impact was so intense that all three occupants were ejected from the Innova. Jackie was flung into a roadside metal pole and sustained fatal injuries to his chest, head, and shoulders. He died on the spot. Akash and Pankaj suffered serious injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital.
Chain collision injures another
As the Innova continued to careen across the highway, it slammed into a parked commercial vehicle and then crashed into an Ertiga. The Ertiga driver, who was seated inside and had not yet started the engine, was also injured in the collision.
CCTV footage captured the horrific sequence of events, showing the vehicle flipping across the road and a passenger being hurled into a pole.
Police cordoned off the accident site and facilitated emergency medical aid for the injured. The mangled remains of the Innova were later cleared from the highway. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police busted an ATM fraud and fake registration certificate (RC) syndicate with the arrest of three individuals involved in a sophisticated scam using Photoshop to forge vehicle documents. The case was initiated on a complaint by Ikrar Salmani, who reported that two unknown men fraudulently exchanged his uncle's ATM card and withdrew Rs 43,451 from his account on May 24. Following the registration of an FIR under relevant sections of the BNS, a team launched an investigation. By analysing over 70 CCTV camera footages, the suspects were identified. On May 31, acting on a tip-off, the team apprehended Alok Yadav (30), a resident of Gautampuri, from Nathu Colony Chowk. A fake RC and scooter used in the crime were seized from him. Further interrogation led to the arrest of Vipin Kumar alias Rajender (38), a broker from Loni, Ghaziabad, who revealed the involvement of Dheeraj Singh (31), the mastermind behind the forged RCs. "Dheeraj was found using Photoshop and a vehicle info app on his mobile to create fake documents," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Prashant Priya Gautam. Recoveries include the scooter, fake number plate, five ATM cards, and mobile phones containing Photoshop data. 'Made call under influence of alcohol': 25-year-old man held for giving death threat to Delhi CM Rekha Gupta; being interrogated by Special Cell
NEW DELHI: A 25-year-old man was taken into custody on Saturday for allegedly issuing a death threat to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, police officials said. The suspect has been identified as Shlok Tripathi, though police sources described him as a habitual fraudster who frequently changes his identity. According to officials, the accused made the threat call while under the influence of alcohol. Tripathi was apprehended by the Delhi Police , who are currently interrogating him at the Special Cell office in northwest Delhi, an official confirmed. The threat was made via the emergency helpline number 112 in Ghaziabad , Uttar Pradesh, during the night between Thursday and Friday. After receiving the call, Ghaziabad police alerted their Delhi counterparts and dispatched a team to Panchwati Colony, where the call had originated. However, the suspect initially managed to evade arrest, said ACP Ritesh Tripathi of Ghaziabad Police. Faridabad: 3 killed, 5 injured as speeding car hits another on NH-19
Gurugram: Three people were killed and five others critically injured after a speeding car rammed into another vehicle at a major intersection on National Highway-19 in Faridabad early Saturday morning, police said. Five employees of JCB India Limited were returning to their respective homes in Hodal and Palwal from the company's headquarters after a night shift in a Maruti Ertiga when an MG Hector, with three occupants, rammed into it from the accident took place at JCB Chowk near Sector-55 around 2 am. The deceased were identified as Tevinder, Manish, and Deepanshu, all aged between 25 and 30 years, station house officer of the Sector-58 police station Vinod Kumar said. 'They all were employees of JCB and were travelling in the Ertiga with two more colleagues. The crash took place as soon as the Ertiga reached the chowk. A speeding MG Hector, having three occupants, rammed it from the right. The collision caused the Ertiga to flip multiple times on the NH and it later caught fire,' Kumar said. Also Read: Two killed in Chamba road mishap 'Locals and police reached the spot and pulled everyone out of the mangled remains of both the cars before fire could spread and took them to various hospitals for treatment, where three of them were declared dead on arrival,' Kumar said, adding that the conditions of the five injured people are critical.
