'Made call under influence of alcohol': 25-year-old man held for giving death threat to Delhi CM Rekha Gupta; being interrogated by Special Cell
NEW DELHI: A 25-year-old man was taken into custody on Saturday for allegedly issuing a death threat to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, police officials said.
The suspect has been identified as Shlok Tripathi, though police sources described him as a habitual fraudster who frequently changes his identity.
According to officials, the accused made the threat call while under the influence of alcohol.
Tripathi was apprehended by the
Delhi Police
, who are currently interrogating him at the Special Cell office in northwest Delhi, an official confirmed.
The threat was made via the emergency helpline number 112 in
Ghaziabad
, Uttar Pradesh, during the night between Thursday and Friday.
After receiving the call, Ghaziabad police alerted their Delhi counterparts and dispatched a team to Panchwati Colony, where the call had originated. However, the suspect initially managed to evade arrest, said ACP Ritesh Tripathi of Ghaziabad Police.

'Surveillance revealed that the fake currency was being smuggled into India via the porous Indo-Bangladesh border. The team succeeded in identifying key operatives of the network,' he said. Acting on specific information, a trap was laid at the Vijay Ghat Bus Stand on the morning of May 8, where Alam was intercepted. A search led to the recovery of Rs 4 lakh in high-quality counterfeit currency, all in Rs 500 denomination. During interrogation, Alam disclosed that he was working for a handler based in Malda, West Bengal, and was receiving instructions from another operative. He admitted to supplying fake currency to contacts in Bihar and Delhi on multiple occasions. 'He was procuring FICN at the rate of Rs 200 for a Rs 500 note and reselling it at Rs 300,' the officer said, adding that Alam had already delivered four to five consignments in the past. Investigators suspect that the proceeds from the fake currency trade are being funnelled to purchase sophisticated arms and Bangladesh-based operatives are actively involved in smuggling FICN into India. Call for police action against cow vigilante groups during Eid in Bengaluru
A group of concerned advocates, researchers, and social activists have alleged rising cow vigilantism in Bengaluru during Eid celebrations, and called for immediate intervention by taking such vigilantes into preventive detention. In a statement issued on Saturday, advocate B.T. Venkatesh, along with activists Vinay Sreenivasa, Zia Nomani and Sylvia Karpagam, flagged instances of cow vigilantism over the last few days by Hindutva activist Puneeth Kerehalli, who is notorious for such raids. Over the last three days in the run up to Eid, Puneeth Kerehalli has conducted at least three 'raids' in which he trespassed into private properties and took away cattle in the garb of 'rescuing' them in Tannery Road, Ahmednagar, and Shivajinagar. He has broadcast these acts live on his Facebook page. He was detained by R.R. Nagar police over one such incident, but was later released, sources said.
