Bajrang Dal member held for abusing Blinkit staff for delivering chicken during Shravan

A member of the Bajrang Dal was arrested by the Ghaziabad Police on Thursday for allegedly insulting and intimidating an assistant manager of Blinkit — a quick commerce company — for delivering chicken during the month of Shravan, police said. Ghaziabad (City) Deputy Commissioner of Police Dhawal Jaiswal identified the accused as Manoj Verma. 'We have begun a probe into the incident,' he said, adding that a court has sent Verma to judicial custody. Vijay Nagar Assistant Commissioner of Police Ritesh Tripathi said Verma was arrested after the Blinkit assistant manager, Monish, filed a police complaint on Wednesday. In his complaint, Monish alleged that Verma, along with his associates, had come to the Blinkit store at Siddharth Vihar in Vijay Nagar on July 15. 'He came between 4 pm and 5 pm and started abusing our fleet manager, Abhay, saying that he was getting chicken delivered in the month of Shravan,' Monish wrote in the complaint, adding that they were threatened that if Abhay did not stop, Verma would kill him and get the store closed. Meanwhile, in a purported video that has gone viral on social media, Verma and one other person could be seen stopping a Blinkit delivery agent, Ritu Raj, who was on a bike, on Wednesday — hours before the police complaint was filed. In the video, Verma is seen asking Raj to show the parcel he was carrying. On finding raw chicken, Verma asks Raj to call the customer. When the customer picks up, Verma is heard saying on the phone — 'Today, it is Tuesday and Shravan too. We are trying to ensure that less non-veg is sold. We are from Bajrang Dal and this is our work…' When the customer on the other end tells him that she is a Christian, Verma lets Raj go. Neetika Jha is a Correspondent with The Indian Express. Main accused still absconding days after 14-year-old girl gang-raped at Ghaziabad home: Police

Three days after a 14-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped inside her flat in Ghaziabad, police on Wednesday said that the main accused is still absconding. Two of the four accused, who were apprehended on Tuesday, are both 19, and they have been formally arrested, officers added. According to an official statement issued by the Ghaziabad Police, both the teenagers were apprehended from the Industrial Area Police Post on Tuesday, below the Mehrouli Underpass. 'Following the registration of the FIR on Monday under relevant sections, a team was formed, and based on CCTV footage and local intelligence, police arrested the two accused,' read the statement. Earlier, police had said that all four accused were believed to be minors. 'Both the arrested accused are residents of Ghaziabad, and are around 19 years of age,' the statement read. Meanwhile, an officer said that the girl was yet to record her statement before the magistrate. 'She was to record her statement on Tuesday, but we could not do that because of her poor health,' the officer said, adding that the medical examination report of the girl is also awaited. According to the girl's father, who filed the police complaint with the Ghaziabad Police on Sunday, she received a call from one of the accused when her mother had gone to a nearby market to buy groceries. She was alone at home when the incident happened, he said. 'She received a call on Instagram from a boy who had been texting her on social media for the last two days. He told her that he was coming to the flat to meet her,' the complaint stated. The girl's father further alleged that when his daughter opened the door, the four accused forcibly dragged her inside the room by covering her mouth with their hands and raped her by taking turns. The senior officers involved in the investigation further told The Indian Express that, prima facie, it appeared that the girl knew the main accused as they studied in the same school. 'The accused knew the girl, and the other boys allegedly reached there later, after the main accused called them. We are still investigating the case and will apprehend the main accused,' said the officer, adding that the gangrape allegations are under investigation. RCB player Yash Dayal booked for ‘sexual exploitation': Cricketer moves Allahabad HC, seeks stay on arrest

Days after the Ghaziabad Police booked cricketer and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) player Yash Dayal for allegedly 'emotionally, mentally, and physically' exploiting a woman after promising to marry her, the 27-year-old cricketer on Thursday moved the Allahabad High Court seeking a stay on his arrest. The police had booked Dayal on Sunday under Section 69 (sexual intercourse by deceitful means, including a false promise of marriage) of BNS after the woman, on June 21, filed a complaint through the Chief Minister's online grievance portal (IGRS). In his writ petition moved before the HC, Dayal denied establishing any physical relationship with the woman on the pretext of marriage. '… as per the FIR, it has been admitted by the informant that she was treated like a daughter-in-law by the parents of the petitioner, meaning thereby that the intention of the petitioner was never to cheat her… However, it was the attitude of the victim which changed over the course of time, and the petitioner realised that he would not be able to marry her; as such, he decided to end the relationship,' the petition stated. It added that even if the woman's version is taken to be true, then at best, it constitutes a failure to fulfill the promise and not a false promise to marry. In the petition, Dayal told the HC that he never entered into a friendship or relationship with the victim by promising her marriage. 'It was a mutual friendship, which later on turned sour because of the victim herself,' the petition said. Dayal also alleged that the lodging of the FIR was delayed, which 'eroded any veracity and truthfulness' of the case. In the FIR, the woman had alleged that Dayal repeatedly had physical relations with her by falsely promising marriage and introduced her to his family, who assured that she would be their daughter-in-law. She had further said that she was suffering from depression, for which she sought treatment and had also attempted suicide. In his plea, Dayal said that in February 2022, he was selected by the Gujarat Titans for an auction amount of Rs 3.2 crore. Following this, he started getting recognition and gained popularity. 'The victim saw this as an opportunity and started getting closer to the petitioner,' it read. Dayal alleged that he was terrified of the threats issued by the woman if he didn't unblock her on WhatsApp or tried to distance himself from her, and that she repeatedly sent him photographs of her attempting suicide. 'I complied with her wishes, albeit under duress and threat of suicide,' he said. Neetika Jha is a Correspondent with The Indian Express. IITian Mastermind Plots Witness Murder In Rs 500 Crore Ponzi Scam

New Delhi: A shocking twist has emerged in the much-talked-about Rs 500 crore Ponzi scheme, also known as the "Like Scam", originating from Ghaziabad. The alleged mastermind, Anurag Garg, an engineer educated from IIT Roorkee, has not only been implicated in defrauding the public but also in a sinister murder conspiracy targeting a key witness in the case. Anurag Garg, who launched the fraudulent online platform 'Web Work' in 2017, duped thousands by promising money in exchange for online "likes." The scam attracted massive public attention when it was promoted using Bollywood stars like Shahrukh Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, which helped gain public trust and lure more victims. As per the police investigation, Anurag Garg, who was earlier out on bail, meticulously planned to eliminate the main witness in the case, Amit Kishore Jain, who was scheduled to testify in court in July 2025. In an extraordinary move to avoid suspicion, Garg got himself re-arrested and went back to jail after assigning the murder contract, thereby trying to create an alibi for himself. On June 17, two young shooters attacked Amit Kishore Jain in a park in Ghaziabad. Fortunately, although he was shot, Jain survived the attack. The Ghaziabad Police, acting swiftly, engaged in an encounter and arrested the two shooters, identified as Amit Yadav and Ashwini. Both were reportedly preparing for Agniveer recruitment and had been roped into the murder conspiracy. Along with them, another accused was also arrested. Priyanshu Gautam, a school owner from Bulandshahr who had only studied till Class 12. Shockingly, despite his limited education, Gautam owns a school and plays an active role in the murder conspiracy. According to DCP Trans Hindon Nimish Patil, the entire murder conspiracy was hatched inside the jail. After receiving bail, Anurag Garg came out, hired the shooters, and soon after returned to jail, a calculated move to avoid raising suspicion. 'This is one of the most meticulously planned contract killing attempts we've come across,' said DCP Patil. 'Due to the alertness and swift action of our police team, we were able to thwart the attack and uncover the entire conspiracy.' Given the large scale of financial fraud involved, the investigation into the Rs 500 crore Web Work scam is now being conducted by the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The scam dates back to 2017, when Anurag Garg and his associates created a fake online platform and launched aggressive promotions using celebrities. The accused allegedly promised earnings through online tasks like clicking or liking content, thereby ensnaring thousands of unsuspecting investors across the country. According to police sources, more arrests and disclosures are expected in the coming days as the investigation deepens.

DCP offices to get CCTV feed from all police stations in Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad: CCTV footage from police stations and ACP courts will now be monitored at command and control rooms launched on Wednesday at the offices of zonal deputy commissioners of police in the three zones of the Ghaziabad commissionerate: City, Trans-Hindon, and Rural. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Nimish Patil, DCP Trans-Hindon, said that three police officers are stationed in each room, working in 8-hour shifts. Under this plan, 86 CCTV cameras have been installed across the three zones of the Ghaziabad commissionerate, out of which 68 are at police stations and 18 at ACP courts. "Through 24/7 surveillance, we will monitor the conduct of police officers and their behaviour towards any visitor or complainant. If any suspicious activity is detected, the monitoring officers will immediately inform the DCP of the zone. Additionally, we will ensure that there are no unnecessary detentions, and all complaints are addressed appropriately," DCP Patil said. In Jan 2023, Ghaziabad Police took disciplinary action against two head constables for accepting bribes. The incident came to light when footage of the incident surfaced on social media platforms, prompting an official investigation. In April 2024, four police officers, including a former SHO of Muradnagar, were arrested for allegedly demanding bribes to dismiss a case. To facilitate and ensure transparency in police services provided under the Citizen Charter, a feedback cell was established to gather applicants' feedback on police conduct and transparency during passport verification, character verification, tenant verification, and the filing of FIRs.
