Main accused still absconding days after 14-year-old girl gang-raped at Ghaziabad home: Police
According to an official statement issued by the Ghaziabad Police, both the teenagers were apprehended from the Industrial Area Police Post on Tuesday, below the Mehrouli Underpass. 'Following the registration of the FIR on Monday under relevant sections, a team was formed, and based on CCTV footage and local intelligence, police arrested the two accused,' read the statement. Earlier, police had said that all four accused were believed to be minors.
'Both the arrested accused are residents of Ghaziabad, and are around 19 years of age,' the statement read.
Meanwhile, an officer said that the girl was yet to record her statement before the magistrate. 'She was to record her statement on Tuesday, but we could not do that because of her poor health,' the officer said, adding that the medical examination report of the girl is also awaited.
According to the girl's father, who filed the police complaint with the Ghaziabad Police on Sunday, she received a call from one of the accused when her mother had gone to a nearby market to buy groceries. She was alone at home when the incident happened, he said.
'She received a call on Instagram from a boy who had been texting her on social media for the last two days. He told her that he was coming to the flat to meet her,' the complaint stated.
The girl's father further alleged that when his daughter opened the door, the four accused forcibly dragged her inside the room by covering her mouth with their hands and raped her by taking turns.
The senior officers involved in the investigation further told The Indian Express that, prima facie, it appeared that the girl knew the main accused as they studied in the same school. 'The accused knew the girl, and the other boys allegedly reached there later, after the main accused called them. We are still investigating the case and will apprehend the main accused,' said the officer, adding that the gangrape allegations are under investigation.

Delhi link led Gujarat ATS to Bengaluru woman held for ‘operating al Qaeda propaganda accounts'
Parveen is the fifth suspect arrested by Gujarat ATS in the last seven days on charges of promoting 'jihadi' content. Last week, ATS arrested Fardeen Shaikh from Ahmedabad and Saifulla Qureshi from Modasa in Gujarat, as well as Mohammad Faiq from Delhi's Chandni Chowk and Zeeshan Ali from Uttar Pradesh's Noida on similar charges. The woman, identified as Shama Parveen Ansari (30), was taken into custody from her family home in Bengaluru's RT Nagar, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Sunil Joshi said in a press conference Wednesday. He added that Parveen is originally from Jharkhand. New Delhi: The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) Tuesday arrested a Bengaluru-based woman on charges of producing and publishing propaganda for the terrorist outfit al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), including speeches of its chief Asim Umar and cleric Abdul Aziz of Islamabad's Lal Masjid, on her social media platforms. Sources in the Gujarat ATS said there is a possibility that the suspects may have been radicalised without actually coming in contact with any active operative of the AQIS but the investigation is still in a nascent stage. The then al Qaeda leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri, officially announced the existence of AQIS on 3 September, 2014, and identified Pakistan-based Asim Umar as its leader. The stated aim of the outfit was to further ideological objectives of al Qaeda in the Indian subcontinent with Myanmar, Bangladesh, Assam, Gujarat and Kashmir as regions of operation. The matter first came to the attention of ATS on 10 June this year after deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Harsh Upadhyay, received 'intelligence' about five Instagram accounts actively sharing al Qaeda propaganda videos to radicalise young recruits. These accounts were identified as sharyat_ya_shahadat, f4rdeen_03, _mujahideen1, mujahideen.3 and sefullah_muja_hid313. Content uploaded on these accounts attempted to incite Indian Muslims to commit violence or acts of terror against 'non-believers', encourage armed rebellion against the democratically-elected Government of India, and promote the establishment of a Shariat-based Caliphate in the country, DIG Sunil Joshi said in a press conference last week. Investigators said they found, on a device recovered from Fardeen Shaikh, AQIS literature promoting 'jihad' against India for 'Operation Sindoor' and a purported video of him waving a sword and chanting: 'This was the only thing missing, now it's complete; Allahu Akbar.' Gujarat ATS also found that one of the suspects, Mohammad Faik, was allegedly collaborating with Pakistan-based Instagram accounts 'gujjar_sab.111' and 'M Salauddin Siddiqui 1360' to target the Indian government. DIG Joshi said investigators reached Parveen's doorsteps after questioning Faiq, who allegedly confessed to having downloaded the majority of these propaganda videos from one Instagram account named 'strangers_nation02'. 'The accused Mohammad Faiq s/o Mohammad Rizwan, via his Instagram account sharyat_ya_shahadat, had posted inciting and provocative videos calling for Jihad, Ghazwa-e-Hind, terror attacks and spreading hatred toward non-believers (kafirs). He had downloaded this content from the Instagram account 'strangers_nation02' as well as Facebook pages 'Strangers Of The Nation' and 'Strangers Of The Nation 2', edited them, reposted them, and interacted with the users of these accounts,' DIG Joshi said in the press conference Wednesday. After this, ATS began investigating administrators of these accounts and found Parveen had allegedly been operating them from Bengaluru. Upon examining her devices, the ATS said she posted inflammatory speeches of AQIS chief Umar, as well as those of Abdul Aziz, who is infamous for his anti-India rhetoric. She was taken into custody from Bengaluru Tuesday and will be produced before a local court in Ahmedabad Wednesday. Instagram model Beverly Slaughter arrested in Florida hit-and-run that killed unborn child; influencer faces 14 felony charges
After nearly three months on the run, 25-year-old influencer and model Beverly Yvonne Slaughter was arrested on July 29 in Fort Lauderdale, South Florida. According to local media reports, police say she was behind the wheel of a high-end Mercedes-Benz S-Class when she caused a devastating crash in the early hours of April 29. The impact left four people hospitalised and ultimately led to the death of an unborn child. Instead of staying at the scene, Slaughter fled, triggering a search that ended with her arrest near a McDonald's parking lot. Victims still reeling from life-altering injuries The crash happened just after 1 a.m. at the intersection of West Sunrise Boulevard and Northwest 24th Avenue. Slaughter allegedly ran a red light at high speed and slammed into a Nissan Altima that was turning left on a green signal. The force of the collision left four passengers in the Altima with serious injuries. One of those victims later died after being taken off life support on May 2. Another was a pregnant woman who lost her unborn child as a result of the crash. The names of the victims have not been publicly released due to redactions in court records. Slaughter tried to hide after the crash, police say According to the police report, after the crash, Slaughter got out of her car and took off on foot. An officer responding to the scene spotted her walking "extremely discreetly" between a bushy fence and a concrete wall near a nearby McDonald's. When stopped, Slaughter reportedly told the officer that her boyfriend had told her to run. Despite the attempt to avoid responsibility, she was arrested at the scene. Years of reckless driving behaviour catch up to her Slaughter's driving record is filled with red flags. Prosecutors say her license has been suspended since 2021 and that she has been convicted multiple times for offences including driving under the influence, fleeing police, reckless driving, and operating a vehicle without a valid license. At the time of the April crash, she should not have been behind the wheel at all. This history is now at the centre of a motion filed by prosecutors asking the court to deny her pretrial release. A 25-year-old Florida influencer, Beverly Slaughter, was arrested for multiple hit-and-run charges and fleeing a car accident scene where a pregnant woman lost her baby. She was driving with a suspended license from prior hit-and-runs. 😳 Prosecutors seek to keep her jailed Assistant State Attorney Ross Weiner, who filed the motion for pretrial detention, argued that Slaughter poses a serious risk to public safety. The motion points to her repeated violations and lack of regard for court orders, stating that no conditions of release would be enough to protect the community. As of now, Slaughter remains behind bars at the Broward Main Jail. From Instagram fame to criminal charges Before her arrest, Slaughter was known on social media for her work as a model and influencer. With thousands of followers, she regularly posted brand partnerships, lifestyle content, and modelling photoshoots. That public persona is now being harshly scrutinised as more details emerge about her past behaviour. Many in the Fort Lauderdale community are outraged that someone with her history was able to keep driving—and that it took a tragedy for it to finally stop. Facing 14 felony charges and mounting public outrage Slaughter is currently facing 14 felony charges, including vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of a crash involving death, and driving with a suspended license causing death. The charges reflect the deadly nature of the crash and the serious injuries involved. With public pressure mounting and prosecutors pushing for the harshest penalties allowed under Florida law, Slaughter's case is expected to move quickly through the courts in the coming weeks. The next court appearance for Beverly Slaughter has not yet been scheduled, but prosecutors have made it clear they will fight to keep her in custody until trial. For the victims' families, the arrest brings a small measure of justice—but the grief and fallout from that April morning are far from over. CA discharged in Torres Jewellers ponzi scheme money laundering case due to lack of evidence
Mumbai: Observing that there is no evidence to indicate that he was actually involved in any process or activity connected with the proceeds of crime, a special PMLA (Prevention of Money-Laundering Act, 2002) court on Tuesday discharged the chartered accountant and statutory auditor Abhishek Gupta. Gupta, who claimed to be a whistleblower, was named by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as an accused in its chargesheet in the Rs 177 crore money laundering case connected to the Torres Jewellers Ponzi scheme case. "Therefore, considering the limited role assigned against the accused…, it shows that there are no sufficient grounds for proceeding against the accused…for offence under section 3 of the PMLA," the special judge RB Rote said. Taking cognisance of the prosecution's complaint against 12 other accused, the judge said that the evidence prima facie shows that there are sufficient grounds for proceeding against them. The judge summoned the accused. You Can Also Check: Mumbai AQI | Weather in Mumbai | Bank Holidays in Mumbai | Public Holidays in Mumbai Defence advocate Mithilesh Mishra submitted that Gupta, in his capacity as statutory auditor, neither participated in nor had knowledge of any alleged money laundering activities. It was further argued that the prosecution failed to produce any prima facie evidence to indicate his active involvement in the purported offence. The ED filed a complaint alleging that Platinum Hern Pvt Ltd (PHPL), also known as Torres Jewellery, orchestrated a large-scale financial scam. The company is accused of luring investors with promises of exceptionally high weekly returns, ranging from two to nine percent on investments in gold, silver, diamonds, and precious gemstones. They also offered "Investment Bonuses" of 20% for new investor referrals, creating a chain-like system. Investigations allegedly revealed that PHPL marketed synthetic moissanite stones, valued at approximately Rs 230, as high-value investments, despite customers paying significantly more (e.g., Rs 6240). The ED stated that the company reinforced the false narrative of high returns by providing weekly bonuses. Further deceptive practices included the failure to disclose foreign directors' identities, using unlicensed lucky draws, and unregulated advertising on platforms like Instagram and WhatsApp. The ED's investigation, initiated based on multiple FIRs from various police stations in Mumbai and Thane, uncovered that PHPL did not possess the necessary licences to accept public deposits. The total proceeds of crime identified in the complaint amounted to Rs 177 crore. During the course of the investigations, the ED conducted search and seizure operations, attaching proceeds of crime worth Rs 1.75 crore. Among the accused are Platinum Hern Pvt Ltd and Torres Jewellery. Alpesh Khara, alleged hawala entry operator, is allegedly responsible for converting cash into USDT cryptocurrency for PHPL's management. He is also accused of handing over cash collected from customers to others to purchase USDT. Sagar Mehta, a cash handler, Oleksandr Zapichenko alias Alex, and Olena Stoian, Ukrainian nationals, are allegedly responsible for the incorporation of PHPL in India. Another Ukrainian national, Viktoria Kovalenko, director of PHPL, is alleged to have maintained a secret identity. Among other officials of the company are director Sarvesh Surve, CEO Tausif Reyaz alias John Carter, and general manager Tazagul Khasatova alias Tanya. Other accused include Lallan Singh, who allegedly routed cash through banking channels and introduced it into PHPL's books as 'loans' or 'investments' through his proprietary concerns, including Miracle, M/s Sunil Restaurant & Bar, Mulund Online Services, and Prisah Finance. Astrozen Pharma Pvt Ltd and Prisah Advisory Pvt Ltd, both companies linked to Singh, are also accused in the case. The judge found sufficient prima facie evidence against these accused, noting their direct or indirect involvement in the concealment, possession, acquisition, or use of proceeds of crime.
