Bhubaneswar: The Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee in Puri has written to the ISKCON, urging it to ensure that Lord Jagannath's ceremonial bathing rituals and Rath Yatra across the world are performed on the specific date sanctioned by scriptures and not to violate traditions.
Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb of Puri, the chairman of the committee, expressed displeasure over some of the ISKCON temples across the world performing the sacred bathing rituals ('Snana Yatra') and the Rath Yatra on various dates, and alleged that such practices 'violate the scriptures and the Hindu calendar'.
In a letter to Shree Govardhan Das Prabhu, chairman of ISKCON Governing Body Commission, Mayapur, Deb said, 'I request your good self to ensure that no ISKCON temple or centre anywhere in the world performs the 'Snana Yatra' or 'Rath Yatra' of Lord Shree Jagannath on a date/tithi not sanctioned by scriptures and traditions.'
Deb also claimed that the temples of the ISKCON authorities outside India are 'celebrating the 'Snana Yatra' (bathing rituals) and the Rath Yatra of Lord Shree Jagannath on dates/'tithis' not sanctioned in our sacred scriptures'.
He also attached documents of some of the announcements in this regard posted by ISKCON temples. Deb pointed out out that such deviations are being made by ISKCON temples in New York City, Calgary and Leicester. In his letter, Deb mentioned that 'learned scholars of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (Puri) have thoroughly scrutinised the views put forward by ISKCON scholars at the meeting held at Bhubaneswar on March 20, 2025.'
The scholars had reiterated their definite and firm conclusion that 'Snana Yatra' was to be celebrated only on Jyestha Poornima Tithi (that is, June 11 this year), while Rath Yatra (that is, Gundicha Yatra and Bahuda Yatra) would be performed only within the auspicious nine days from Asadha Shukla-paksha Dwitiya Tithi (that is, June 27 this year) to Asadha Shukla-paksha Dashami Tithi (that is, July 5 this year)', the letter mentioned.
'Performance of these most sacred yatras of the Lord Jagannath on any other tithi/date will be a violation of our sacred scriptures and ancient traditions,' the titular king of Puri said. In the letter to the ISKCON authorities, Deb, who is the first servitor of Lord Jagannath, also said, 'The detailed explanations in this matter submitted by our scholars will be sent to you shortly.'

BJP gears up to corner Congress in Assembly over Chinnaswamy stadium stampede and caste census

BENGALURU: Despite the Congress government in the state finding itself on a sticky wicket some BJP leaders feel they have not been able to corner the government. With the monsoon session of the Assembly likely to start from July 14, the BJP is preparing to raise the recent stampede outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium that claimed 11 lives during the RCB victory celebrations, new caste census and many more issues. The Congress government that has completed two years a few weeks ago is facing internal bickering, with many eying posts of chief minister and KPCC president. The BJP is planning protests and may consider approaching Governor with complaint. Some of the issues that the BJP leaders raised in the past few months include the government's mismanagement during the RCB victory celebrations, government taking up new caste census, thus not taking up the old reports for which government had spent over Rs 160 crore, and communal clashes in coastal Karnataka that also witnessed murders. Speaking to TNIE, a senior BJP leader on condition of anonymity said that every time, they raised an issue to highlight the failure of the state government, there has been a parallel national development that had sidelined the BJP's protest. 'When we raised increase in price of commodities, there was Pahalgam attack. When we raised the stampede issue, there was air crash in Ahmedabad. We are not blaming the tragedies, but we are not able to take our issues to logical conclusion,' the leader said. MLC and Opposition Chief Whip in Upper House, N Ravikumar, said they will discuss the strategy for the session in their party meeting. 'Congress has failed to give good governance, maintain law and order, but is indulging in appeasement politics that has resulted in the killing of Hindu activists. We will raise these issues along with deaths due to stampede, wasting of tax payers' money on caste census and many more.'' he said.

Murugan meet will protect Tamil culture; won't disturb peace, says Puducherry Home Minister

MADURAI: Puducherry Home Minister A Namassivayam said that the Murugan Maanadu will not disturb the public peace, and it aims at securing the Tamil culture. Speaking to the media at Madurai after inaugurating the spiritual exhibition replicating Lord Murugan's six abodes (Arupadai Veedu) that has been set up near the Vandiyur tollgate in Madurai, he said, 'Just like how the state government organised a Murugan Maanadu in Palani, this event will be organised in Madurai city. It will not cause disharmony and disturb peace. The event aims at seeking protection of the Tamil culture.' He added, 'BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran had publicly declared that time was not allotted to us to meet CM M K Stalin and invite him to the event. If given time, we will invite the CM as well. We have already invited AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, NTK chief coordinator Seeman, actor Rajinikanth, and PMK leader Anbumani Ramdoss to the event.' 'Devotees of Lord Murugan believe, wherever the abode of lord is located, it belongs to Murugan. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has deep faith in Hindu religious ideals. He wished for the success of this conference and urged everyone to participate,' he said.
