
Extra coaches added to key express trains to ease summer rush
On Friday, the Thiruvananthapuram Central -Mangaluru Central Maveli Express (16604) will be equipped with an additional sleeper coach.
The Malabr Express services are also set to see improvements. Train 16629, the Thiruvananthapuram Central- Mangaluru Central Malabar Express, will have an extra sleeper coach on Friday.
Similarly, the Amrita Express connecting Thiruvananthapuram Central and Madurai Junction will see added capacity. Train 16344, running from Madurai to Thiruvananthapuram, will be provided with extra coaches on Friday.
The Southern Railway stated that these measures are aimed at enhancing passenger comfort and ensuring a smooth travel experience during the summer peak season.

SR AGM inspects passenger amenities in Trichy Junction
Trichy: Additional general manager (AGM) of Southern Railway , Kaushal Kishore, on Saturday conducted an inspection in Trichy Junction railway station to ascertain the usefulness of existing passenger amenities. Railway officials said the inspection went on for one hour, during which the AGM inspected passenger amenities, including the usage of escalators and lifts. Challenges in operating the facilities were explained by officials. He also inspected the other entrance of the junction located at the Kallukuzhi end and enquired about the accessibility conditions. In the integrated refreshment room available on platform one, Kishore enquired about the quality of food served to passengers. The officer also inspected the Ponmalai (Golden Rock) railway workshop. During his visit, representatives from the All India SC and ST Railway Employees Association (AISCTREA) submitted a request seeking new railway quarters for residential staff, as the old railway quarters were demolished. Internal roads in the Ponmalai workshop vicinity were also sought to be repaired and relaid. A demand to introduce CT and MRI scan facilities in the railway hospital here was raised too. Meanwhile, DRM Balak Ram Negi continued the inspection along with ADRM P K Selvan at Villupuram and Ariyalur stations. Need spl trains for I-Day weekend: MP
Trichy: MP Durai Vaiko has urged Southern Railway to operate special superfast trains through Trichy to places such as Mysuru and Chennai during the Independence Day weekend. In a letter to the general manager of Southern Railway, the MP said many people would be travelling as the Independence Day falls on Friday. Durai Vaiko also highlighted the need for a special superfast train between Chennai Egmore and Tirunelveli via Tambaram, Villupuram, Vriddhachalam, Trichy, Pudukkottai, Karaikudi, Manamadurai, and Aruppukottai. He also sought a special superfast train between Trichy and Mysuru via Karur, Salem, and Bengaluru. Southern Railway to run Onam special trains between Chennai and Kollam via Coimbatore
COIMBATORE: Southern Railway has announced special trains between Chennai Central and Kollam to cater to the extra rush of passengers during the Onam festival. In a press release, the Salem railway division said train no. 06119 Chennai Central - Kollam special train will leave Chennai Central at 3.10pm on Aug 17 and Sept 3 and 10 to reach Kollam at 6.40am the next day. Train no. 06120 Kollam - Chennai Central special train will leave Kollam at 10.40am on Aug 28 and Sept 4 and 11 to reach Chennai Central at 3.30am the next day. The trains will stop at Tiruvallur, Arakkonam, Katpadi, Jolarpet, Salem, Erode, Tirupur, Podanur, Palakkad, Thrissur, Aluva, Ernakulam Town, Kottayam, Changanassery, Tiruvalla, Chengannur, Mavelikara, Kayamkulam, Karunagappalli and Sasthamkotta.
