New York Knicks reportedly interested in trading for former MSU star Jaren Jackson Jr.
A former Michigan State basketball star is reportedly a top target on the trade market for one of the biggest teams in the NBA.
Kris Pursiainen of NBA Central is reporting that the New York Knicks are interested in trading for former Michigan State Spartans star Jaren Jackson Jr. According to Pursiainen, the Knicks consider Jackson and Karl-Anthony Towns as a "dream pairing."
There has been some chatter over the past few days that the Memphis Grizzlies could trade away Jackson as part of freeing up salary cap space. There was a new report from ESPN on Monday that stated the Grizzlies aren't looking to move the former Spartan but things, of course, could change quickly.
Jackson has played all seven of his NBA seasons with the Grizzlies after they drafted him with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. Jackson has became a star in the NBA, winning Defensive Player of the Year twice and earning an All-Star selection twice in the last three seasons.
We will have to keep a close eye on the developments around Jackson as he could be on the move this offseason or could simply remain with the Grizzlies.

New Report on Celtics Star's NBA Retirement Decision
New Report on Celtics Star's NBA Retirement Decision originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Boston Celtics already had many questions about where they would go this offseason before Jayson Tatum tore his Achilles. While his significant injury certainly changes a lot going forward, there are still some decisions to make this offseason. Advertisement They want to get under the NBA's second tax apron, which means players like Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis may not be on the team next season. Both will be paid over $30 million next season, so if either or both are off the Celtics' payroll, that could help Boston accomplish that goal. Then there's Boston's free agents, who carry their own question marks. Boston Celtics center Al Horford (42) high-fives guard Jaylen Brown (7).Brian Fluharty-Imagn Images The Celtics have three players who will be unrestricted free agents this offseason: Al Horford, Luke Kornet, and Torrey Craig. There's no telling what the future holds for them. Horford's case is different because he is a free agent and, at 39 years old, could retire. That said, HoopsHype's Michael Scotto reported that Horford will return to the NBA next season. Advertisement "The general sense around the league and those close to Horford is that he'll continue to play next season," Scotto wrote. Whether that's with the Celtics is another question. Scotto also reported that teams are keeping their eye on Horford with Tatum out for most of next season, if not the entirety. "Predominantly, high-level playoff contenders are monitoring Horford to see if he'd leave Boston, with the Celtics expected to take a step back without Tatum next season and in a financial crunch regarding their salary books," Scotto wrote. Horford has left quite the legacy in Boston, but Tatum's injury puts their title chances into question next season. If he joins a healthier contender, that could give him the opportunity to win another title before he calls it quits. Wizards Receive Unfortunate Marcus Smart Trade Report on Monday
Wizards Receive Unfortunate Marcus Smart Trade Report on Monday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Washington Wizards are among the worst teams in the NBA, and it may take them a while to become good again, pending any surprises. Even though that was the case this season, that didn't stop them from acquiring former Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart when they had the chance. Advertisement The Wizards acquired Smart primarily to acquire another asset when they agreed to take him off the Memphis Grizzlies' hands. As Washington focuses more on its rebuild, Smart may be on his fourth team in the last two years soon enough. The issue with Smart is that, ever since Boston traded him to Memphis two years ago, he has struggled to stay on the floor. Boston Celtics forward Grant Williams (12) and guard Kemba Walker (8) and center Tristan Thompson (13) and guard Marcus Smart (36) and forward Jayson Tatum (0)© Ron Chenoy-Imagn Images In the last two seasons, Smart has played a combined 54 games. That might be why trading him has been challenging for Washington. NBA insider Matt Moore reported on his Substack that the Wizards have had issues trying to trade Smart and may have to wait a while before getting a deal done. Advertisement "The Wizards would like to move Marcus Smart to a contender, but there's been little interest so far," Moore wrote. "He might be one of the guys moved in the latter days of free agency after teams strike out on other targets." Smart will be paid almost $21.6 million for the 2025-26 season, the last year of his current contract. Notably, the Celtics are trying to save money this offseason, which could lead to a reunion in Boston. The Wizards acquired Smart to get draft assets, so if the Celtics dangle that along with an expensive contract, Smart could be a Celtic again. Austin Reaves' Message on NBA Future After Lakers Trade Report
Austin Reaves' Message on NBA Future After Lakers Trade Report originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Austin Reaves has become a star for the Los Angeles Lakers, rising from undrafted rookie to standout guard and fan favorite. Over four seasons, he's carved out a niche as the Lakers' dependable third option, known for his shooting touch and high basketball IQ. His relentless work ethic, infectious energy, and willingness to embrace the spotlight have endeared him to the Arena crowd and beyond. Advertisement Despite a strong run in the regular season, Los Angeles stumbled in the playoffs. Following their first-round exit, speculation mounted about Reaves' long-term role. It was reported by Dan Woike of the LA Times that the Lakers are not expected to move Reaves, but Woike's colleague Bill Plaschke argued they should. Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves (15).Alonzo Adams-Imagn Images That speculation was addressed head-on this weekend during the Reaves Brothers Basketball Camp. Speaking to Charles McCary of K8 News, Reaves said: 'I want to be in LA. I want to play my whole career in LA. I love it there ... I don't pay attention to [the trade rumors]. I keep my head down work… And obviously the Lakers is the best organization in basketball.' Advertisement On trade rumors, he added, "I don't pay attention to it. I keep my head down work, and I feel like that's one of the reasons I'm where I'm at." Reaves' 2024-25 season was arguably his best yet—he averaged 20.2 points, 5.8 assists, and 4.5 rebounds while shooting 46% from the field. His leap in production earned him a fifth-place finish in Most Improved Player voting and sparked conversations about his ascending value. His ability to create, space the floor, and deliver in big moments makes him a potentially valuable piece alongside LeBron James and Doncic next season. With those credentials and a public declaration of loyalty, Reaves is staking his claim to remain a core piece of the Lakers' future. If Los Angeles prioritizes continuity and chemistry alongside its star duo, Reaves may well stay—and thrive—as the team's undisputed third scoring threat.
