In a TikTok Augusta posted earlier this week, her 16-year-old son is driving a Chevrolet Impala that is making a loud and consistent knocking noise.
The text overlay says that Augusta first heard the sound the day before. Her son was unbothered by it, however.
'His response? 'Oh, it will stop in about 30 seconds,'' the overlay reads.
Augusta says her son seemed to have 'not a care in the world,' despite the alarming sound.
The TikTok has 9.7 million views as of this writing.

People familiar with
Chevy Impalas
said that the sound is typical for the model. One who says they formerly owned an Impala joked that they have 'unresolved trauma' from the sound.
Some offered advice to fix the sound, which most believe is caused by the climate control system.
'Ummmm I instantly knew that was an Impala because my son's car does it too lol. We figured ours has to do with the buttons with AC,' a comment with more than 100,000 likes reads.
'Every Impala does this. You could get it fixed and it'll do it again in 4 to 6 months. Easy way to prevent it? Turn AC off 45 seconds before you turn off car,' another advised.
'It's the blend door actuator located behind the glove box. The part will run about $45, generally easy to replace yourself just look up a YouTube video! Had to do this twice with my Impala,' another speculated.
Over a dozen people also opined that the problem is the blend door actuator.
What Is a Blend Door Actuator?
A blend door actuator is a small motor that controls your car's climate control system. It's a plastic box small enough to fit in one hand that has gears inside.
When you turn the knob to increase or decrease the temperature or fan, the signal goes through the blend door actuator. The device also controls the defrosters and other vents, Wrench explains.
Some newer cars have two blend door actuators, one for the front seats and another for the back.
While it's safe to drive around with a busted blend door actuator because it doesn't affect how a vehicle drives, the noises and lack of temperature control can make for an uncomfortable and highly irritating ride.
It costs between $436 and $581 to replace the blend door actuator on a Chevy Impala,
Repair Pal
reports.
Many commenters said replacing the part is simple enough to do at home, and it'll save you a lot of money.
A YouTube instructional video describes this as a "VERY common issue" on Impalas. " It's almost always the recirculation door actuator," creator Daniel Jaeger (@DanielJaegerFilms) adds.

Mom's Real Concern
In a follow-up video, Augusta thanks the people who tried to help diagnose the issue. She also says they know what's wrong with the vehicle, but doesn't say exactly what.
She says that what concerned her most about the issue was her son's nonchalance about it.
It's a good rule of thumb to always find out why your vehicle is making a new sound or driving differently. Depending on what the issue is, not doing so could lead to an even bigger problem or risk causing a car accident.
In the case of the Impala in Augusta's TikTok, it could also make driving deeply unpleasant.
'Why would he not care?' Augusta wonders in the post.
'That would drive me crazy, all that ticking. I would lose my ever-loving mind.'

Test Driving The Hybrid-Powered 2025 Lamborghini Urus SE

As a brand, Lamborghini has never been about subtlety or trepidation. They've always been bold, and even in the practical world of SUVs the Lamborghini Uris has always put the "funk" in functionality. But this year Lamborghini has added a new domain to its SUV. This is the first hybrid version of the Lamborghini Urus, dubbed the Urus 'SE' – where the 'E' stands for electrification. This is actually a plug-in hybrid, giving the Lamborghini Urus SE an EPA-rated 37 miles of pure electric travel before the 4.0-liter internal combustion engine fires up. Like every version of a plug-in hybrid, the Urus SE gains power and torque…but it also gains weight. How much? About 700 pounds, giving it a curb weight of 5,500 pounds versus the non-hybrid 2025 Urus S and Urus Performante, both of which weigh in at 4,800 pounds. Those two other Urus trims are not electrified, and they are both going away after the 2025 model year, so if you like your Urus without a hybrid component you better get to your dealer right now and get your Lambo SUV ordered. In terms of price, the base Lamborghini Uris S costs about $242,000 while the top-of-the-line Performante trim costs about $274,000. This new Urus SE electrified version lands right between them, at about $263,000. Lamborghini Urus SE: One Hybrid to Rule Them All While every Urus is powered by the same 4.0-liter, twin turbocharged V8, in the S and Performante trims the V8 'only' makes 657 hp. This Urus SE, with its 192 hp electric motor and 25.9 kWr battery pack helping out, makes 789 hp and 701 pound-feet of torque. This makes the SE the most powerful Lamborghini Urus you can buy, and also the quickest, with a 0-to-60 time around 3.1 seconds and a top speed of 194 mph. So, despite the substantial weight gain, the Urus SE clearly benefits from the hybrid components. It's also the most fuel efficient Urus, with an EPA mixed fuel rating of 20 miles per gallon versus 16 mpg for the Urus S and the Performante. The electric motor is embedded in the 8-speed automatic transmission, and like every Urus the SE includes standard all-wheel drive. And because this is a plug-in hybrid the Urus SE gets an EPA-rated 48 MPGe when it's leveraging a fully charged battery and the hybrid drivetrain. Thankfully, this is a Lamborghini, so we know it's not really about fuel efficiency – it's about performance. And in the Urus SE's case Lamborghini has made maximum torque arrive, with the help of that motor, at an easily-accessible 1,750 RPM. You can really feel it when you roll into the throttle, as that wall of torque readily pulls the 5,500-pound SUV away from stops and up to highway speeds with minimal effort. The 2025 Lamborghini Urus SE also benefits from a new electrohydraulic multi-plate clutch and electronic rear differential, giving the vehicle more effective torque vectoring in all circumstances. This benefits the SUV not just at the track or on dry pavement, but also on slippery surfaces or when off roading. I'm impressed by the Urus SE's performance, despite the weight gain. Obviously the performance figures speak for themselves, but driving it really tells the story as its relentless pull conveys its 'torque everywhere' approach Lamborghini is striving for. Working in tandem with the drivetrain's immense pulling power are paddle shifters that make swapping gears in the 8-speed automatic an instantaneous experience. Using them lets the driver maximize engine power under varying driving conditions, such as accelerating in a straight line or blasting between apexes at a track or on a twisty road. The Lamborghini Urus SE's responsive driving dynamics reflect the engineering team's ability to hide the reality of this large, tall SUV gaining hundreds of pounds from the hybrid drivetrain infusion, and that's impressive. Lamborghini Urus SE Represents the Next-Gen Urus Beyond the hybrid technology, the Urus SE previews the mid-cycle refresh we'll see across the entire Urus model line in 2026. This includes the SE's more prominent hood that extends to the front of the vehicle instead of stopping short of the Lamborghini emblem. The SE also features matrix LED headlights that are both narrower and sharper, and more effective at providing nighttime lighting. These headlights flank a larger Urus grill we'll see on the other two models next year, confirming the simple reality that every vehicle redesign and refresh must include a larger grille. When you look at the side of the new Lamborghini Urus SE it's the same as the previous year, though there are new 23-inch wheels available. Our press car 'only' had 22-inch wheels, probably because the larger 23s would have negatively impacted both fuel efficiency and the SE's all-electric range. Out back, a new mesh wraparound treatment, just below the taillights, gives the Urus SE a more sinister look. This feature was supposedly inspired by past Lamborghini supercars, including the Gallardo. A new rear spoiler and lower rear splitter have increased downforce by 35 percent. The mid-cycle refresh continues inside, where Lamborghini's familiar 'jet-fighter-inspired' cabin design remains in place. The familiar joystick controls for reverse and driving modes have been supplemented by new drivetrain buttons for hybrid, recharge, and performance settings. Recharge mode is represented by a button with a battery on it, and in this setting the Urus SE can actually charge its battery during low speed and stop-and-go driving. Of course you can also plug the Urus SE in to a wall outlet to recharge the 25.9 kWr battery. Lamborghini Urus SE's Hybrid Tech Really Works! My experience with the Lamborghini Urus SE included driving in 'recharge' mode during a 60-mile, mostly freeway-speed trip from south Orange County to Santa Monica. This was followed by putting it in pure electric mode for the drive back. The battery remained nearly fully charged during the initial travel, then delivered 40 miles of pure electric travel on the way back, proving the effectiveness of both the hybrid drivetrain's charging capabilities and its pure EV efficiency (though speeds were reduced to between 20 and 60 mph on the return drive, as is typical of the LA area…). Additional interior upgrades include a new 12.3 inch central touchscreen with a streamlined control interface, and a new gauge cluster with higher-quality graphics. Our test car was highly equipped, adding about $80,000 to the Lamborghini Urus SE's base price. The most expensive options were the 'Big Interior Carbon Package - Shny' for $8,113, and the 'Sportivo Leather Interior' for $6,082. Actually our test vehicle's beautiful blue paint was the most expensive option, at $13,384. But that's a small price to pay given it lets you tell people your Urus is painted 'Blu Uranus', right? With all 29 options added to the Lamborghini Urus SE's base price of $262,,631, our test car rang in at $341,708. Probably not a realistic price for most of today's SUV buyers, but that's kind of the point, right. Buying the Urus SE provides not only the unique performance, prestige, and premium experience Lamborghini is known for, but in a package that doesn't flinch when it's time to perform serious utility vehicle duties, whether that's going off road, carrying up to five people in comfort, or hauling up to 22 cubic feet of cargo (56 cubic feet if you fold the second-row seats down). Lamborghini Urus SE: The Future of Performance? But the most important feature of this super SUV is the advanced hybrid technology it brings to customers, giving them a glimpse of the future of Lamborghini (and likely every other performance brand). The Porsche 911 is now a hybrid. So is the Ferrari SF90, McLaren Artura, and Lamborghini's own top-dog sports car, the Reveulto. If the 2025 Lamborghini Urus SE's combination of fuel efficiency and performance – both in a straight line and around corners – points to the road ahead, it's going to be a lovely ride.

This car tops the chart of most-stolen vehicles

Thieves are targeting one type of car above all others, with this U.S. vehicle stolen far more frequently than any other make or model, new data shows. The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, which retails for around $75,400, had a theft rate 39 times higher than the average for all vehicles with the model years 2022 to 2024, according to a new report from the Highway Loss Data Institute, or HLDI. The model is a high performance version of the lower-cost Chevrolet Camaro, whose theft rate was 13 times higher than the average for the same 2022-2024 model years. The Camaro sports car retails for between $32,495 and can rise to around $50,000, depending on the finishings, transmission type and other options a buyer selects. To determine the most commonly swiped vehicles, the HLDI analyzed stolen vehicle data for 2022-2024 car models between the years of 2021 to 2024. Their analysis hit upon a few shared traits between many of the cars favored by auto thieves. "What all vehicles in top 20 have in common is that they are relatively expensive, relatively powerful and in many cases they are pickup trucks," Matt Moore, chief insurance operations officer at HLDI, told CBS MoneyWatch. Muscle cars are attractive to thieves because they are looking for vehicles with high horsepower, the group said. The Camaro models have another feature that make them vulnerable: on-board ports that contain vehicle data, such as fuel emissions and performance stats, but can also serve as a point of entry for thieves. "In the case of Camaro ZL1, it is very desirable to thieves, and, on top of it, there's a vulnerability that makes them relatively easy to steal," Moore said. "Due to the vulnerability, with the right knowledge and right bits of technology, someone who can gain access to the inside of one of these Camaros can steal it relatively easily," Moore said, noting that he didn't want to describe the process more precisely so as not to encourage thieves. Earlier this year, Chevy owner General Motors released a software update for 2020 to 2024 Camaro models that was aimed at improving security. "This body control module software enhancement involves an important security update for certain model year 2020 to 2024 Chevrolet Camaros," a GM spokesman said in a statement to auto blog GM Authority. "GM counters vehicle theft methods as they evolve. We regularly work with law enforcement agencies to identify emerging tactics that may affect our products and make updates as needed to defend against them." The 20 most stolen vehicles Pickup trucks and other pricey or powerful models were also frequently stolen, and appear on the list of the top 20 vehicles with the highest claim frequencies for entire vehicle theft, according to the report. The Honda-owned Acura TLX 4WD, a roughly $46,000 sport sedan, was stolen at a rate that was 21 times more than the average, making it the second most commonly stolen vehicle type, according to HLDI's report. The Chevrolet Camaro was the third most-commonly stolen model. "Based on the fact that many of these are 'connected' vehicles, just having one of these stolen electric vehicles is not an easy thing, it's a high-risk proposition," Moore said. "In addition, they need to be charged on a regular basis, so many of their owners likely have garages." That means fewer of them show up on streets, providing thieves with less opportunity to steal them, Moore explained. "They aren't sitting on streets overnight, and therefore they are less vulnerable," he said. The Rest Of The World Leaves North America Behind When It Comes To EV Sales

Good morning! It's Tuesday, July 15, 2025, and this is The Morning Shift, your daily roundup of the top automotive headlines from around the world, in one place. This is where you'll find the most important stories that are shaping the way Americans drive and get around. In this morning's edition, we're looking at how North America's EV sales are fairing versus the rest of the world, and how badly tariffs are hurting Volvo. We're also checking out how ridiculously expensive the Tesla Model Y is going to be in as well as Nissan's plan to shutter one of its most important factories. Read more: The Least Reliable Cars, Trucks And SUVs You Can Buy In 2025, According To Consumer Reports 1st Gear: North America Struggles With EV Sales Global sales for electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids jumped 24% in June from the same time last year, thanks almost entirely to momentum in China and Europe. At the same time, sales in the U.S. were down 1% and are expected to continue struggling throughout the year, according to market research firm Rho Motion. You can thank President Donald Trump's rhetoric toward EVs, as well as his spending bill that will cut federal EV tax credits sooner than anticipated. It's not just the U.S., though. Canada is also doing its part to drag down North America's switch to EVs. It lagged behind the "rest of the world" countries, which included emerging markets in Southeast Asia, South and Central America. From Reuters: Global automakers face a 25% import tariff in the United States, the world's second-largest car market, causing many of them to withdraw their outlooks for 2025. In Europe, incentives for retail and fleet buyers in key markets such as Germany and Spain, alongside a growing availability of cheap EVs, are expected to support electric car sales through the second half of the year. While some of the most successful EVs in the small vehicle segment are produced by European carmakers such as Volkswagen and Renault, those by Chinese brands including BYD are taking up market share in the continent and driving growth in emerging markets, Lester said. Sales in China were up 28% last month from the same time last year to 1.11 million vehicles. Europe also saw a 23% increase to around 390,000 EVs. In North America, well, it's a different story. Sales fell 9% to 140,000 vehicles. The rest of the world saw sales rise an extremely solid 43% to over 140,000 vehicles. Altogether, a total of 1.8 million EVs were sold in the world in June, and that's the highest for a month in 2025 so far, Reuters reports. 2nd Gear: Volvo Is Being Battered By Tariffs Trump's policies aren't just hurting electric vehicles, though. In some cases, they're hurting entire car companies. Take Volvo, for example. The Swedish-Chinese automaker just took a $1.2 billion hit because of delays to some of its electric models and the rising cost of tariffs. Development setbacks and tariffs in Trump's America have greatly impacted Volvo's battery-powered vehicles like the EX90 crossover and ES90 sedan. The effect of the one-time non-cash charge on its net income will come out to be about $930 million. From Bloomberg: "Due to import tariffs the company is currently unable to sell the Volvo ES90 profitably in the United States, while ES90 margins are also under pressure in Europe for the same reason," the company said in a statement. The Sweden-based automaker, controlled by China's Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., is among the more tariff-exposed global car brands and has previously said it's looking into adding more production at its US plant. Volvo is also struggling to attract EV buyers in the highly competitive Chinese market, despite its access to the Geely ecosystem. Volvo said its upcoming EX60 SUV, set to start production next year, will deliver "significant cost reductions and performance improvements." The EX90 has struggled with software-related delays that have raised the model's development costs. In an effort to save money, CEO Hakan Samuelsson is planning to execute a massive $1.9 billion efficiency program. The move comes after the automaker's operating profit plunged 60% in the first quarter of 2025. 3rd Gear: Indian Tesla Model Y Is Shockingly Expensive Tesla just launched its Model Y electric crossover in India, and holy cow, is it expensive. To start, the Indian Model Y will set buyers back $70,000. For reference, U.S. Model Ys start at $46,630, including destination. That 70 grand mark makes it the highest price among major markets. To be fair, Tesla probably wasn't going to sell many Model Ys in the country regardless of price. Despite the fact that India is the world's third-largest car market, EV sales make up just 4% of the pie. From Reuters: Tesla opened its first showroom in Mumbai on Tuesday and began taking Model Y orders on its website, marking its long-awaited entry into the market where Musk once had plans to open a factory. For now, Tesla will import cars into a country where tariffs and related duties can exceed 100%, driving up the price for consumers. Grappling with excess capacity in global factories and declining sales, Tesla has adopted a strategy of selling imported vehicles in India, despite the duties and levies. The U.S. EV maker has long lobbied India for lower import tariffs on cars, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's officials remain in talks with U.S. President Donald Trump's administration to lower the levies under a bilateral trade deal. But the cars Tesla displayed in Mumbai were made in China, and its U.S. factories do not currently make the right-hand drive vehicles that are used in India. Right now, it's looking like the Model Y rear-drive will start at about 6 million rupees ($70,000). The Model Y long range will set buyers back 6.8 million rupees (over $79,000). That dwarfs the Model Y's $36,700 starting price in China and $53,700 starting price in Germany. If you want to spend even more money on a Model Y and are feeling brave (reckless), you can spend an additional 600,000 rupees on Tesla's Full Self-Driving system. I'm sure that'll work really well on India's famously calm roads. 4th Gear: Nissan To Shut Down Flagship Japanese Plant Nissan is planning to shutter one of its flagship factories in Japan and transfer operations to a plant in a different part of the country in an effort to reduce costs and production capacity as the automaker looks for ways to restructure its operations. The Oppama plant has been in operation since 1961, and it employs about 2,400 workers, but that run of over 60 years of business will come to an end by March of 2028. From Bloomberg: The decision isn't a surprise, given the facility had already been on a list of plants facing closure. But it's a big move, and will have large implications for the local economy, as Nissan looks to raise funds and cut expenses to turn around its rapidly deteriorating financial and operational position. "Today's announcement marks a restructure that comes with significant pain," Chief Executive Officer Ivan Espinosa said at Nissan's headquarters in Yokohama, Japan. "However, I firmly believe that carrying through with these actions is essential to overcoming the current situation and returning to a path of growth." There won't be any other consolidation or cutting of vehicle production sites in Japan, Espinosa said. He added that it hasn't been decided whether employees will be transferred within the company, or to whom some assets will be resold. [...] The plant is also a key economic pillar for Yokosuka and Kanagawa prefectures, employing thousands of workers and is also a significant taxpayer. Hundreds of local subcontractors, from parts suppliers to logistics firms, rely on its operations and its workforce keeps restaurants, retail shops and services near Oppama Station humming. The Oppama plant has a storied production history. It was the facility that made the first-generation Leaf — the world's first mass-produced electric vehicle. After Leaf production shifted to other plants, Oppama output focused on smaller vehicles like the Nissan Note and Nissan Aura. The automaker says that its other facilities located alongside the Oppama factory, including a research center, test track and crash facility, will not be impacted by the plant's closure. Reverse: Don't Do That, Jimmy! You shouldn't have done that, Jimmy. It bummed people out. If you want to find out why, head over to On The Radio: Post Malone - White Iverson There's no two ways about it, "White Iverson" still hits just as well as it did back in 2016. Few artists have a breakout song as iconic as this one. Want more like this? Join the Jalopnik newsletter to get the latest auto news sent straight to your inbox...
