Logo, mascot for 2025 World Para Athletics Championships unveiled
With 100 days to go for the 2025 World Para Athletics Championships at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the logo and mascot for the global event were unveiled by the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) here on Friday.
The 12th edition of the tournament, which will be held from September 27 to October 5, will feature 186 medal events (101 men's, 84 women's and one mixed).
India is hosting the event for the first time, and is the fourth Asian country to do so, after Doha 2015 in Qatar, Dubai 2019 in the United Arab Emirates and Kobe 2024 in Japan.
The official mascot, called Viraaj, is a young elephant with a blade prosthesis.
'More than 100 countries are going to be participating. This is a very big opportunity for India to display its ability to host such events and put out a grand show,' said PCI president Devendra Jhajharia, a former javelin thrower who won two Paralympics gold medals.
The athletics track at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium is being relaid ahead of the event. 'The venue will be ready a month before the beginning of the event. The preparations are on track. I visited the venue just three days ago,' Jhajharia informed.
The stadium has a seating capacity to accommodate 60,000 spectators and is maintained by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) on behalf of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs.

He was by far the best bowler on display in the series opener of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy but without proper support from the fielders and his fellow fast bowlers, England got away to challenge India's big first innings score (471) by reaching 209/3. Shardul Thakur, India's fourth seamer, was introduced into the attack for the first time in the match. This wicket helped Bumrah break Wasim Akram's long-standing record of picking the most wickets by an Asian bowler in SENA countries. Bumrah now has 147 wickets in 55 innings. A couple of overs later, Bumrah should have got the wicket of Pope but for another drop catch. This time, the guilty party was Yashasvi Jaiswal, who could not hold on to a sharp catch at third slip when Pope got an outside edge while trying to guide the ball. Pope went on to score a century. Bumrah translated his displeasure into another wicket when he dismissed England's best player Joe Root towards the fag end of the day's play. Root was guilty of pushing at ball that bounced more. He could have got another wicket in the last over of the day when Harry Brook was out caught but replays showed Bumrah had overstepped. Earlier, India were bowled out for 471 in the first innings in their opening Test against England with skipper Shubman Gill, vice-captain Rishabh Pant and opener Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring centuries. Gil (147) and Pant (134) put on 209 runs for the fourth wicket after openers Jaiswal (101) and KL Rahul (42) had provided a strong start, putting on 91 runs for the first wicket. Jaiswal scored 101 off 159 balls with 16 fours and a six, while Gill struck 19 fours and a six to make 147 off 227 balls. Pant was the most belligerent of them as he hammered 12 fours and six sixes to make 134 off 178 balls for his seventh Test century, which is now the most for any Indian wicketkeeper-batter in the longest format. Resuming at 359 for three on Day 2, India, however, lost seven wickets for 112 runs with Ben Stokes claiming 4/66 and Josh Tongue taking 4/86.

Pant overtakes Rohit to become India's top six-hitter in WTC history
Leeds [UK], June 21 (ANI): Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant overtook former skipper Rohit Sharma, becoming the team's leading six-hitter in the history of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) history. Pant accomplished this feat during his side's first Test against England at Leeds on Friday. During his knock of 134 in 178 balls, Pant smashed 12 fours and six sixes, scoring at a run-rate of above 75. With this, Pant's six count in WTC has gone up to 62, overtaking Rohit's tally of 56 in 40 Tests. The 27-year-old has smashed these sixes in just 35 matches, scoring a total of 2,386 runs at an average of 41.85 with five centuries and 13 fifties in his WTC career. The leading six-hitter in ICC WTC history is England skipper Ben Stokes, who has smashed 83 sixes in 54 Tests. Pant on Saturday also surpassed MS Dhoni to register the most Test centuries by an Indian wicketkeeper-batter and continued his good show in what are regarded as tough wickets in countries outside Asia. Pant now has seven centuries, overtaking Dhoni, who has six Test centuries. This is also his fifth century in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia) conditions, the most by an Asian batter. Three of these centuries have come in England and one each have come in Australia and South Africa. Also, he has equalled Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara (seven centuries) for most centuries in Tests as a designated keeper among all Asian countries. Ben Duckett was the second English batter dismissed by Bumrah on Day 2 of the ongoing Test. Bumrah breached Duckett's defence and shattered his stumps. Before getting bowled out by the 31-year-old fast bowler, Duckett scored 62 runs from 94 balls with the help of nine fours. The wicket of Duckett helped Bumrah break Wasim Akram's record of most Test wickets by an Asian bowler in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia) countries. During his playing days, Akram dismissed 146 batters in 32 Tests played in SENA countries. On the other hand, Bumrah now has 148 wickets to his name in 32 Tests played in SENA countries. Bumrah, who made his Test debut for India against South Africa at Newlands in Cape Town on January 5, 2018, has 40 wickets to his name in 10 Tests played on English soil so far, and he has dismissed 64 batters in 12 Tests played in Australia. Bumrah has played two Tests in New Zealand, in which he has picked up six wickets, and has 38 dismissals to his name in eight Tests played in South Africa.
