KUWAIT: The Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences (IOMS) has praised Kuwait's model integration of security and scientific institutions, describing it as a commendable example for others to follow. Dr Mohammad Al-Jarallah, Chairperson of the IOMS, affirmed that this synergy reflects a high level of state awareness regarding the importance of supporting scientific endeavors grounded in legal and ethical principles — particularly in light of rapid advancements in genetics and artificial intelligence.
His remarks came on Sunday following a meeting with First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah. During the meeting, Dr Al-Jarallah presented a commemorative shield to Sheikh Fahad in appreciation of the ministry's significant support for the recently held international conference titled 'Genetic Imprinting and Gene Editing in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: An Islamic Perspective.' Dr Al-Jarallah commended the Ministry of Interior's pivotal role in ensuring the success of the event, which was organized by the IOMS. He highlighted the active participation of elite cadets and officers from Saad Al-Abdullah Academy, who engaged in in-depth discussions and contributed meaningfully to the sessions.
He noted that senior officials from various departments within the ministry also delivered insightful speeches and took part in scientific debates during the conference. The gathering addressed over 50 scientific topics, with particular focus on the applications of artificial intelligence in DNA-related fields. The conference also witnessed the participation of renowned scholars from leading academic institutions, including Al-Azhar University.— KUNA

Iranian Embassy holds event to commemorate Imam Khomeini

KUWAIT: Iranian Ambassador to Kuwait Mohammad Toutonji speaks at an event held to mark the 36th anniversary of the passing of the founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini. KUWAIT: The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Kuwait held a ceremony to mark the 36th anniversary of the passing of the founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini. The event was attended by a distinguished group of scholars, intellectuals, social and political figures, several former members of the National Assembly, members of the Kuwaiti-Iranian Friendship Association, and a large crowd from the Iranian community. 'On this great day, we gather to commemorate a man whose influence extended far beyond the borders of the Islamic Republic of Iran,' Iranian Ambassador Mohammad Toutonji said. Imam Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic, was an inspiration to all the free people of the world. He was a figure who united religion and worldly affairs, basing every social movement on faith and justice. The late Imam was not merely a political leader; he was a prominent jurist, a profound philosopher, and a spiritual thinker reflecting deeply on the essence of humanity and existence.' Ambassador Toutonji continued: 'In a world where the voices of the oppressed are still silenced, and people are crushed under the weight of power, greed, and war, the message of Imam Khomeini - a message of justice, dignity, faith, and freedom - is more urgent than ever. Let us all, with our different religions, languages, and homelands, stand united to build a humane society worthy of our dignity.' Several speakers also gave remarks, highlighting that the Palestinian cause was always on Imam Khomeini's agenda. They emphasized his lifelong commitment to Islamic unity, his resistance to division and discord, and his opposition to any attempts to sow strife - efforts that are detrimental to the interests of the Islamic nation. They stressed that the Imam consistently called for unity and the extinguishing of sedition.

‘Strawberry Moon' to illuminate Kuwait on June 11

KUWAIT CITY, June 5: The Al-Ojairi Scientific Center announced on Wednesday that a full moon, known as the 'Strawberry Moon', will illuminate Kuwait's skies on June 11, reports Al-Seyassah daily. In a press statement, the center explained that the name comes from the strawberries that ripen in the Northern Hemisphere during this time. The month of June will witness several notable astronomical events. On June 7, the moon will reach its farthest point from Earth in its orbit, appearing slightly smaller than usual, and this phenomenon is called the 'moon at apogee.' On June 19, the moon will come into conjunction with the planet Saturn, passing about 23 degrees apart when the moon is 23 days old. This month will also witness the summer solstice, the longest day of the year, when the sun reaches its highest point in the sky. This day, June 21, marks the official start of summer in the Northern Hemisphere. Jupiter will be in conjunction with the sun on June 24, passing close to the sun as it moves to the far side of the solar system. The following day, a new moon will appear, coinciding with the moon's perigee, its closest point to Earth, at a distance of approximately 1.01140 astronomical units from the sun. On June 30, the moon and Mars will share the same ascendant, with the moon passing 12 degrees north of Mars while being five days old.

Citizen blasts opaque debt campaign, files court case

KUWAIT CITY, June 4: The Court of First Instance received a new case filed by a Kuwaiti citizen who has demanded full disclosure of the distribution and beneficiaries of donations totaling millions of dinars collected by the national campaign for refunding debtors' loans. Lawyer Reem Al-Baghdadi, representing the aggrieved citizen, requested detailed information on debt repayment records, the disbursement process, and the list of beneficiaries. She explained that her client was extremely surprised to be excluded from the current debtors' campaign beneficiary list, despite not having applied for any previous campaigns. An investigation revealed that the committee overseeing one of the previous campaigns had paid the government a fee of KD 10 owed by the citizen, based on a request from the Ministry of Justice. Her client was unaware of this payment and that his name had been included in the previous campaign's beneficiary list without his knowledge. Despite being able to pay the KD 10 fee himself, he applied to register in the latest campaign due to a large debt he could not afford to repay. Lawyer Al-Baghdadi emphasized that the purpose of this lawsuit is to clarify the mechanisms of the debtors' campaigns, ensuring transparency and fairness so that aid reaches those truly entitled to it based on clear and just criteria.
