A Calgary teen admitted to murdering a 16-year-old boy over an internet feud and an expensive sweatshirt.
Dean Visser was fatally stabbed in June 2024.
His killer can't be named because he was under the age of 18 at the time of the crime. CBC News is calling him SK.
SK was two months past his 17th birthday at the time of the attack.
Originally charged with first-degree murder, SK pleaded guilty to second-degree murder following plea negotiations between defence lawyer Rebecca Snukal and prosecutor Darren Maloney.
Court of King's Bench Justice Lisa Silver will hear sentencing arguments at a later date.
The maximum sentence for a youth convicted of second-degree murder is four years in custody and three years under community supervision.
Details of the murder come from an agreed statement of facts filed as part of SK's guilty plea.
Pair 'harboured animosity'
Court heard that in 2024, Visser and SK "harboured animosity" toward each other and had exchanged heated messages on Instagram.
On June 24, 2024, Visser and his girlfriend were walking along a street in the city's southeast. They had plans to meet up with friends.
Visser had two expensive hooded sweatshirts from the Bathing Ape brand, known as BAPEs. He wore one of the sweatshirts and carried the other.
During the walk, SK observed the couple and began following them for two or three blocks.
'Who are you?'
With his hood up, SK ran up behind the couple with a knife in hand and stabbed Visser.
During the attack, Visser shouted "who are you?"
SK replied: "Give me that BAPE."
Visser said "you can have the BAPE" and handed the sweatshirt over to his attacker.
SK ran from the scene with the BAPE in his arms.
Visser's girlfriend and another witness called 911. First responders arrived quickly at the scene and took him to the Children's hospital.
'I blacked out'
Less than two hours later, Visser was dead.
In the meantime, SK had returned home. He ditched some of his clothing in an alley en route.
SK's mother called her son's probation officer and told him he'd been attacked by Visser.
Despite the call, SK was arrested by police at his home. He initially told investigators he and Visser had arranged a meeting to settle their feud and said he acted in self-defence.
Once police confronted SK with security camera footage, he changed his story.
He told police he spotted SK on the street, rushed to catch up and stabbed him out of anger because of their feud.
"I blacked out. I saw him, saw rage and just went forward," he told police.

After her service, her life took a different direction, and she entered the porn business before moving to OnlyFans as a model named Selena Savage. TRANSFORMATION: From Coast Guard to killer. INSTAGRAM But life is full of twists and turns, and the 35-year-old beauty was determined to settle an old score. The object of her hatred was a 31-year-old man named Matthew Dunmire. Perkins would claim to anyone who would listen that Dunmire had raped her years before when the pair were in high school in Virginia. The brunette beauty went to the cops in 2017, but they blew her off. Last week, Perkins confessed to second-degree murder in the execution-style slaying of Dunmire. Chelsea Perkins claimed Matthew Dunmire had raped her in high school. *** In 2017, cops in Virginia Beach told the FBI they didn't have enough evidence to charge Dunmire, court records cited by the Cleveland Plain Dealer said. Perkins wasn't ready to let the matter drop. The Coast Guard vet confessed to travelling nearly 500 km from Virginia to Ohio to meet Dunmire. They were not strangers and had known each other for years before the slaying. In March 2021, Perkins messaged Dunmire on Facebook, drove to Cleveland and spent the night with him at an Airbnb rental. MUGSHOT: CHELSEA PERKINS. OSP According to cops, on March 6, 2021, he sent a text to his girlfriend that he planned to donate plasma and then return home. When he didn't show, authorities tracked his phone to the Terra Vista Natural Study Area of the park. Perkins had lured the aspiring musician to a popular trail in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Once on the trail, Perkins parked a bullet in Dunmire's brain. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. 'While hiking off-trail into a wooded area of the park, Perkins used a loaded firearm she brought with her to shoot the victim in the back of the head, killing him,' a U.S. Department of Justice press release read. KILLER: Chelsea Perkins. INSTAGRAM Dunmire's body wasn't discovered until three days later when hikers came upon the macabre scene. But putting the handcuffs on Perkins, who is married to another Coast Guardsman, was no easy task. It took the FBI nine months to find her using GPS data, DNA, social media records, tracking her phone and ballistics testing on shell casings discovered at the crime scene. *** Cops zeroed in on Perkins when one of Dunmire's co-workers revealed that four days before his murder, the musician said he was 'meeting a girl' who was staying in the Cleveland area. The co-worker added that a dark-haired woman had picked up Dunmire in a tiny white Smart car. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. GUNS R US: Chelsea Perkins. INSTAGRAM The vehicle was traced back to Perkins' husband, whom she had met in the service. Witnesses told investigators they had seen a woman who matched Perkins' description in the area on the day of the murder. They added that they heard a gunshot in the late morning. At Perkins' home in Alexandria, Virginia, the feds found three 9mm pistols. One had bullets that matched the slug they dug out of Dunmire's skull. Now, Perkins faces 25 years in prison for her plea. She will be sentenced on Sept. 9. WAS THE VICTIM A RAPIST? Matthew Dunmire. FACEBOOK *** But there was yet another sour twist in the bizarre slaying. Months after Dunmire was murdered, his grieving parents also took up guns to settle the score with Perkins. At the time, the porn star was still on the run. In November 2021, Tommie Lynn Dunmire and John Nelson McQuillen drove to Washington, DC, to kill their son's alleged killer. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. Tommie Lynn disguised herself as a UPS driver and rapped on the door of an apartment unit where she believed Perkins was hiding. A woman answered the door and was shot twice in the stomach. It was not Chelsea Perkins, the woman was at the wrong place at the wrong time. The innocent victim miraculously survived the gunshot wounds. Dunmire's parents fled the scene and were later tracked down by the feds in Florida. As cops closed in following a high-speed chase, the grieving mom shot herself dead. John Nelson McQuillen pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact and was jailed for three years. Death toll from quarry collapse in Indonesia rises to 14

CIREBON, Indonesia (AP) — At least 14 people were killed after a quarry collapsed the previous day in Indonesia's West Java province, officials said Saturday. More than two dozen people were trapped in the rubble when the Gunung Kuda quarry in Cirebon district collapsed on Friday. Rescuers pulled a dozen injured people and 10 bodies from the debris during a grueling search effort. They retrieved three more bodies late Friday, and another worker died in hospital, bringing the death toll to 14, said the National Search and Rescue Agency in a statement. Five people have been hospitalized with serious injuries. Local television reports showed emergency personnel, along with police, soldiers and volunteers digging desperately in the quarry in a steep limestone cliff, supported by five excavators, early Saturday. Authorities said six to eight people are still believed to be trapped. The cause of the collapse is still under investigation, and police have been questioning six people including the owner of the quarry, said local police chief Sumarni. West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi said in a video statement on Instagram that he visited the quarry before he was elected in February and considered it dangerous. 'It did not meet the safety standard elements for its workers,' Mulyadi said, adding that at that time, 'I didn't have any capacity to stop it.' On Friday, Mulyadi said that he had ordered the quarry shut, as well as four other similar sites in West Java. Illegal or informal resource extraction operations are common in Indonesia, providing a tenuous livelihood to those who labor in conditions with a high risk of injury or death. Landslides, flooding and tunnel collapses are just some of the hazards associated with them. Much of the processing of sand, rocks or gold ore also involves the use of highly toxic mercury and cyanide by workers using little or no protection. Last year, a landslide triggered by torrential rains struck an unauthorized gold mining operation on Indonesia's Sumatra island, killing at least 15 people. ___ Associated Press writer Niniek Karmini in Jakarta, Indonesia, contributed to this report.

Boy, 14, charged with first-degree murder after random 'sadistic' stabbing of elderly Ontario woman: police

A teenage boy has been charged with first-degree murder after a woman was fatally stabbed in Pickering, Ont. Police received a call to a residential area of the Southern Ontario city around 3 p.m. on Thursday, Durham Regional Police said in a news release . A passerby had noticed an elderly woman lying on the ground outside of a home near Lynn Heights Drive and Fairport Road. The victim was brought to a Toronto-area trauma centre where she was pronounced dead. UPDATE 1: 14-Year-Old Male Charged with First Degree Murder A 14-year-old male has been charged with first degree murder after a female was killed in Pickering in Durham Region's second homicide of 2025. The suspect was initially reported to be 13 years of age; however, he is… On Friday, the 14-year-old suspect appeared in court via video from the Durham Regional Police Division 17 for a hearing in Oshawa, CBC News reported . He said he understood the charges against him and confirmed he had the chance to speak with a lawyer. In an update to media on Friday morning, acting staff Sgt. Joanne McCabe said police are investigating reports of the suspect allegedly looking at homes in the area weeks before the incident. Although the attack appeared to be random, she said the victim and the suspect had a brief conversation before the woman was stabbed. A neighbour told CBC she saw the suspect walk toward the woman's house, but couldn't see the stabbing from where she was sitting in her bedroom. 'It seems like a lot of people have seen him walking around that day, around that time, just because he stood out quite a bit,' said Pickering resident Gabriela Fredericks. After watching video footage of the area, police said the woman was outside of her house when a suspect approached her. There was a brief encounter and then the woman was attacked. She was stabbed 'multiple times,' police said. A shelter in place was in effect while police conducted a search, and the Ontario Provincial Police issued an Alert Ready notice. The search team included officers from multiple units, including Air1, Drone, K9 and Tactical Support, according to Durham Regional Police. The suspect was discovered by police at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday evening and taken into custody without incident. A press conference was held after the arrest on Thursday. Durham Regional Police Service Chief Peter Moreira told media that authorities would not be revealing details about the arrest, CP24 reported . He said the investigation was 'in its infancy' and those details 'may form part of the evidence.' He said the investigation would also uncover if the victim and suspect knew each other in any way. Moreira said the victim was stabbed 'in a sadistic and cowardly unprovoked attack that was captured on video.' Pickering Mayor Kevin Ashe posted on X on Thursday, giving his 'thoughts, prayers, and sympathies' to the victim and her family. My thoughts, prayers, and sympathies go out to the victim and her family. Thank you to @DRPS for their efforts in bringing this to a quick resolution. Ashe also thanked the Durham police 'for their efforts in bringing this to a quick resolution.' He later confirmed the woman was in her 80s. The woman, whose identity has not been made public by police, was a retired teacher, according to neighbour Laurie Deoliveira. 'We live in a safe community. It's not a normal thing to happen,' she said. Deoliveira, along with others from the community, have laid flowers at the woman's home. Brian Fredericks, who lives across the street from the victim, called her a 'lovely lady' whom he had known for 32 years. A candlelight vigil was set for Friday evening, although its organizer John Meloche later cancelled the event. He said in a Facebook post that it was due to the family's wishes to have privacy 'during this incredibly difficult time.' The 14-year-old will not be named, as the Youth Criminal Justice Act in Ontario prohibits the identification of minors in such cases. He is due back in court on June 20, CBC reported.
