Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 Review: Smriti Irani's Tulsi Returns With Full Nostalgia Punch
Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2: The pilot begins with Smriti Irani introducing her on-screen family in her signature powerful style, instantly striking a nostalgic chord.
Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is back, and with just one episode, it has left us teary-eyed with nostalgia. Ekta Kapoor's decision to revive Tulsi and Mihir isn't just a casting move — it's an emotion that transports us straight to our childhood living rooms, where families used to gather around the TV at 10:30 PM sharp. From the iconic title track to the familiar family dynamics, everything feels like a warm hug from the past. In an age of fast-paced content, where crime dramas or thrillers rule OTT spaces, this reboot reminds us of a slower, emotionally rich era of storytelling – one that defined the golden age of Indian television.
Interestingly, Ekta Kapoor chose to keep the opening scene of her new show exactly the same as the iconic introductions she's known for in her earlier serials. Right from a Ganpathi idol to the dramatic camera angles and even the visual styling — nothing has changed. It's almost as if time stood still as Ekta decided to bring Tulsi back. The daily soap queen, who's often credited with shaping Indian television drama, didn't try to reinvent the wheel here. Instead, she leaned into the familiarity, perhaps intentionally, to evoke a strong sense of nostalgia among viewers.
The episode opens with Smriti Irani introducing her on-screen family in her signature powerful style, instantly striking a nostalgic chord. Accompanied by the iconic Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi title track, Smriti introduces everyone to her family including Mihir, Gayatri, Karan, Hemant and Daksha among others.
It is worth noting that as Ekta Kapoor reintroduces Tulsi and Mihir to the screen, she adds an emotional masterstroke — a beautifully edited video montage featuring their most iconic moments from the original series. This heartfelt compilation plays like a nostalgic rewind, capturing the essence of their enduring bond, dramatic highs, and tear-jerking lows. It's a deliberate and touching reminder of why these characters became household names in the first place.
Let's be honest—nothing has really changed in these 25 years. Tulsi remains exactly the same: the ever-sacrificing woman who prioritises everyone but herself. She ensures her husband gets his protein shake on time, keeps a watchful eye on the kitchen staff, and continues to carry the emotional and domestic burden of the entire household — without a thought for her own health or happiness. Her world still revolves around nurturing, feeding, and caring, as though she's frozen in time.
While Daksha (Ketki Dave) has clearly evolved with the times — more outspoken, more self-aware and even aware of what's happening in this world — Tulsi remains trapped in the same mold. And in 2025, that feels not just outdated, but disappointing. Tulsi, once hailed as the epitome of virtue, no longer reflects the aspirations of today's independent woman. Instead, she reminds us how far we still have to go in reshaping female representation on television.
Even the plot of the show, as revealed in episode one, fails to bring anything new for the audience. It follows a predictable and dated trajectory, with familiar tropes resurfacing. Gayatri feels threatened by Tulsi's central role in the family and accuses her of being arrogant, because of the unconditional love and respect she receives from her children.
In a classic soap opera move, she then instigates Hemant against Mihir and asks, 'Kyun saara business sirf Mihir sambhalta hai?" Gayatri doesn't waste time playing coy either. She then predicts a '*bahut bada toofan" in Tulsi's life. Her character arc is stamped with the age-old villainess template, offering no new depth, no grey shades and just the same old drama repackaged for 2025. Maybe, the makers should have tried to be a little creative with regard to the plot and should have tried to offer something new to the audience.
However, it will be interesting so see what will unfold in the upcoming episodes and how will Tulsi represent a strong woman.

Bakaiti Season 1 Review: A mildly charming slice of middle-class life
Story: Set in old Ghaziabad, Bakaiti follows the Kataria family as siblings Naina (Tanya Sharma) and Bharat (Aditya Shukla) clash and connect, while their parents navigate grief, financial stress, and family chaos with resilience, humour, and unspoken love. Review: Bakaiti is a gentle, grounded portrayal of middle-class family dynamics that finds comfort in the mundane. Set in the bustling bylanes of old Ghaziabad, the series revolves around the Kataria Parivaar, whose everyday chaos—ranging from power cuts to passive-aggressive sibling squabbles—forms the core of this this 7-episode dramedy (each clocking in under 30 minutes). The central tension arises when Naina (Tanya Sharma), an ambitious and level-headed 21-year-old, is forced to share her room with Bharat (Aditya Shukla), her boundary-less teenage brother obsessed with cricket and pranks. Underneath their lighthearted bickering, the parents—Sanjay (Rajesh Tailang) and Sushma (Sheeba Chaddha)—quietly shoulder the burden of financial uncertainty and unspoken emotional wounds. Director Ameet Guptha focuses less on plot twists and more on textured interactions: sibling fights over their personal space, interrupted naps, and constant reminders for 'paani ki tanki bhar gai hain, motor band kar do, (tank is full, turn off the motor). These everyday details form the charm of Bakaiti, but also its limitation. While the show nails the relatability and rhythm of middle-class living, it stops short of delivering a truly resonant emotional payoff. The writing team (Tatsat Pandey, Gaurav Madan and Pranjali Dubey) smartly avoids melodrama, instead highlighting how even the smallest exchanges carry meaning in family life. But by staying too surface-level, it risks feeling inconsequential. That said, the performances elevate the material. After Bandish Bandits, Sheeba Chaddha and Rajesh Tailang return as parents, and yet again, their effortless chemistry bring warmth and unforced gravitas to their roles. Tanya Sharma and Aditya Shukla manage to capture the awkward love between siblings with believable flair. Bakaiti doesn't reinvent the wheel, nor does it try to. It is content being a modest, heartfelt glimpse into the mess and love of Indian households. For viewers seeking comfort in familiarity rather than high-stakes drama, this show will likely strike a chord. For others, it might feel too safe, too light to leave a lasting mark. Overall, it's a breezy but heartfelt watch that celebrates the unglamorous, unsaid parts of family life—worth a try if you're in the mood for something simple and sincere.

Yuzvendra Chahal Says He Was Called 'Cheater' After Divorce With Dhanashree: 'I Had Suicidal Thoughts'
Last Updated: Yuzvendra Chahal revealed he was labelled a "cheater" after divorce, faced anxiety attacks and suicidal thoughts, and found support in friends like Mahvash. Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal has opened up for the first time about the mental health challenges he faced following his much-publicised divorce from choreographer and influencer Dhanashree Verma. In an interview on the Raj Shamani podcast, Chahal shared that he was wrongly labelled as a 'cheater" after the separation, despite having been loyal throughout the relationship. 'After my divorce, I was called cheater. And I have never cheated in my life. I'm an extremely loyal person. You wouldn't even find a loyal person like me. I deeply care about my people," he said. Chahal expressed that what hurt him the most was how people jumped to conclusions without knowing the full story. 'That's what affects me that you guys don't even know what has happened and yet you are blaming me," he added. Chahal, known for his calm demeanour on the field, said he struggled with the intense trolling and baseless assumptions that flooded the internet after his breakup. 'Just because I'm seen with someone doesn't mean you'll write anything for views. And if you react and speak up, then 10 more people will come and troll you even more. Because they want masala all the time," he said, referring to his alleged relationship with RJ Mahvash. 'I know my truth and the people who are close to me know my truth so I don't care. Why do I justify to anybody when I haven't done anything wrong?" he added firmly. 'I Was In Depression For 5 Months": Yuzvendra Chahal The leg-spinner revealed that during this emotionally turbulent period, he experienced severe anxiety and even suicidal thoughts. 'I'd been in depression for four to five months. I got anxiety attacks. Only my close ones know this. I have never shared this anywhere for sympathy. I used to have suicidal thoughts because my mind had completely stopped working," Chahal admitted. He further revealed that he took a break from cricket to deal with his mental health. Despite having all the material comforts in life, he said he felt empty. 'You have everything in your life, all the luxuries, but you still don't have happiness. Then you get these thoughts — what to do with this life, just leave it," he shared. Yuzvendra Chahal Credits RJ Mahvash For Her Constant Support Chahal credited his close friends, including Pratik Pawar and RJ Mahvash, for helping him during his lowest phase. 'I didn't want to share it with my family because I didn't want to bother them. So, my close friends really helped me during this period. They were with me," he concluded.
