NLEX to waive toll fees on June 22, 2025 from Balintawak to Meycauayan amid Marilao Bridge repair
The temporary toll relief will start on Sunday, June 22, at 1 a.m. and will end at 12:00 midnight.
"To facilitate the immediate repairs of the Marilao Overpass Bridge, which sustained severe
damage from a truck violating regulations, NLEX Corporation will implement temporary toll relief
on the northbound portion of the expressway from Balintawak to Meycauayan starting June 22,
2025 at 1:00am until 12:00 midnight.
Marilao Bridge going to MacArthur Highway has been closed temporarily until June 26 for repair work.
The company said appropriate traffic management measures will be in place to minimize the inconvenience posed to motorists.
A stop-and-go scheme is being implemented in the area, NLEX Corp. said.
"We ask for the motoring public's patience and understanding," NLEX Corp. said in a statement.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) earlier directed NLEX Corp. to immediately suspend the collection of toll in the Marilao northbound segment of the expressway, following the fatal accident Wednesday when a truck hit the Marilao Interchange Bridge anew.
DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon also said NLEX Corporation will be held liable for the said accident.
On Wednesday, a truck hit the Marilao Interchange Bridge, killing a 54-year-old passenger of an Asian utility vehicle (AUV).
Based on the initial investigation of the Marilao police, the trailer truck passed the Meycauayan exit to go back to Malabon, but it hit the interchange bridge on the northbound lane when it arrived in Marilao.
A beam from the bridge fell and hit the vehicle behind the truck, resulting in the death of a passenger of an AUV and injuries of others, including a two-year-old kid.
According to the truck driver, he had no idea that the truck would strike the bridge because he supposedly passes there almost every day when going from Meycauayan to Malabon.
The truck driver is now in the custody of Marilao police and will face complaints of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and serious physical injuries and damage to property.
Last March, a trailer truck also damaged the Marilao Interchange Bridge. —KG, GMA Integrated News

300,000 beep cards for delivery in August 2025 to address shortage — DOTr
Some 300,000 additional regular beep cards will be available starting next week to address the shortage affecting train commuters in Metro Manila, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced Wednesday. Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said the cards will be distributed across Metro Rail Transit (MRT) Line 3, and Light Rail Transit (LRT) Lines 1 and 2, in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s directive to resolve the scarcity that has caused long queues and inconvenience to passengers. "By next week, wala na tayong shortage ng beep cards. Beep Card will be completing a delivery of 300,000 additional cards across MRT-3, LRT-1 at LRT-2. 'Yun ang na-compute nating shortage," Dizon said. (By next week, we will no longer have a shortage of beep cards. The white, personalized beep cards will bear the student's name. These will be valid for one year and may be renewed every school year. Students may visit any MRT-3, LRT-1, or LRT-2 station starting next month, present their school ID, and have their personalized card printed on the spot. LTO suspends for 90 days license of TNVS driver who allegedly tried to stab passengers
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended for 90 days the driver's license of a Transportation Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) driver who allegedly attempted to stab passengers, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said. 'Sinuspinde ng LTO ng 90 araw ang lisensya ng driver ng TNVS na inDrive na nakuhanan ng video ng pasahero na sapilitang nitong pinababa at tinangka umanong saksakin,' the DOTr said in a statement issued Wednesday. (The LTO has suspended for 90 days the license of the TNVS driver of inDrive who was caught on video forcing passengers to get off the vehicle and allegedly attempting to stab them.) The LTO also summoned the TNVS driver and the vehicle's registered owner to explain the incident. They were ordered to appear before the LTO on East Avenue, Quezon City on Monday, July 21. The involved vehicle was also placed under alarm. Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon warned TNVS drivers that there are penalties for assaulting and intimidating passengers.
