Guardian celebrates real choices, real confidence
THE Guardian Awards: Beauty & Wellbeing 2025 kicked off yesterday with a launch that celebrated not just products, but the personal journeys, choices and stories behind them.
The event welcomed leading healthy and beauty experts, media, influencers and guests to experience an immersive showcase of what beauty and wellbeing truly mean to Malaysians today.

2025's most trusted products: Best Sellers and Expert Picks
The event unveiled for the first time the Guardian Awards 2025 winners across two key categories: Best Sellers and Expert Picks.
The Best Sellers Awards 2025 shines a spotlight on the products Malaysians buy most often at Guardian, trusted by consumers for consistently delivering results. These are the everyday favourites that have become staples in homes across the country, recognised for their proven results and lasting impact.
The Expert Picks 2025 were selected by a panel of respected voices in beauty and wellness: Healthcare professional and wellness advocate Dr Shazril Shaharuddin, skincare enthusiast and content creator Yasmin Khalid, celebrity makeup artist Shiyo Joo and celebrity hair stylist Cody Chua.
Together, they reviewed over 100 products across skincare, cosmetics, personal care and healthcare, evaluating each one over a one-month period for effectiveness, innovation and relevance to Malaysian lifestyles.
Interactive celebration of beauty and wellness
Guests at the event enjoyed engaging sessions with this year's Expert Picks panel, who shared their professional insights and personal experiences.
In one session, Shazril and Yasmin explored the powerful link between health and skincare, emphasising how a balanced approach to mind, body and lifestyle can transform self-care into a form of everyday empowerment.
In another, Joo and Chua tackled some of the most common beauty and grooming myths seen on social media to debunk viral trends while offering practical advice on making smarter beauty choices.
Attendees also posed questions to these experts via a Q&A session, making the entire event a casual and meaningful experience as it created space for real, honest conversations on how to approach beauty with confidence, curiosity and a critical eye – reinforcing that good decisions start with good information.
Guests then explored interactive zones, each one led by an expert, where they tried, tested and learnt about the winning products. They also participated in fun games and activities, from skincare routine challenges to beauty quizzes, offering direct engagement with the experts and the award-winning products Malaysians trust most.
Fan Favourites voting now open
During the event, voting opened for the Fan Favourites category. Until June 3, 2025, Malaysians can vote for their favourite cosmetic, skincare, healthcare and personal care products via Guardian's website and social media platforms.
By voting, participants stand a chance to win prizes worth over RM100,000 – including Dyson Airstraight Straightener, ZenyumSonic Electric Toothbrush, DJI Osmo Pocket 3, and three grand prizes, each a three days, two nights stay in an Ocean Junior Suite at One&Only Desaru Coast respectively.

Football fever takes over as 1,300 join AIA's Score with Spurs Camp
SCORE with Spurs Camp, the highly anticipated football coaching programme by AIA Malaysia in collaboration with Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, made an exhilarating return this year – bringing together over 1,300 aspiring junior and adult participants for a three-day football experience at the Eco Ardence Setia Alam Football Arena. Held from 30 May to 1 June 2025, the camp was led by Tottenham Hotspur International Development coaches Lily Jervis and Sabrina Dias, alongside 24 experienced local coaches. The camp was divided into two daily sessions: mornings were dedicated to the Junior Camp which welcomed more than 700 children aged 7-13, while evenings catered to the Adult Camp, which saw a turn-up of nearly 650 participants. This format ensured participants received tailored, age-appropriate training and guidance to maximise their experience. Each day kicked off with dynamic warm-up activities that were also open to participants' families and friends, creating a vibrant and energetic atmosphere where they could join in the excitement. Beyond honing basic football skills like dribbling, passing and shooting, the training sessions also featured tactical drills and friendly matches. These sessions were thoughtfully structured to build confidence, encourage progression and reinforce key values such as teamwork, discipline and sportsmanship – all while ensuring the experience remained fun and engaging for participants of all ages and skill levels. Launched in 2021 as a virtual football coaching programme during the pandemic with just 160 participants, Score with Spurs has steadily grown into a meaningful avenue for Malaysians to stay healthy and active in a fun and engaging way. In 2022, the programme transitioned to on-ground sessions with the introduction of the Adult and Junior Camps, which have since expanded to five to six sessions annually. By making world-class football coaching more accessible to Malaysians, Score with Spurs continues to inspire and promote healthier lifestyles, nurture football talents from the grassroot level, and empower communities to live Healthier, Longer, Better Lives.

Batik mural brings colour, culture to KL

His signature style, marked by vibrant splashes of colour and cultural motifs, has been featured in artistic projects across the country. However, his latest endeavour, a mural at 'Zon Jejak Pahlawan' in Jalan Parlimen in Kuala Lumpur, called for a deeper approach. Titled 'Mural Batik Madani', the artwork carries a message of inclusivity and shared identity, celebrating the common threads that unite all Malaysians. 'I want it to be a reflection of our common hopes and goals,' Arif told StarMetro at the event to unveil the installation. He hopes his design and personal outlook resonate with how many Malaysians feel; united by shared experiences and values. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa launched the event, along with Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif. Arif Rafhan says mural is meant to showcase the spirit of inclusivity. In her speech, Maimunah highlighted the role of public art in both beautifying the city and strengthening community ties. 'At Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), we believe the arts can foster a sense of pride and belonging among residents,' she said. 'This mural is more than just a visual landmark – it represents the rich cultural identity that defines Kuala Lumpur.' Spanning 183m in length and six metres in height, the mural is part of a joint corporate social responsibility initiative between Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and Berjaya Group Bhd. DBKL said in a media statement that work on the mural began on Feb 11 and was completed by March 24, nearly a month ahead of schedule. 'This mural is aimed at conveying a message of inclusivity and unity among Malaysia's diverse communities. 'It is also to highlight our heritage, including that of Sabah and Sarawak, using batik as an education and artistic medium,' said DBKL. Harry, the Duke of Sussex, believed that the passport delays were the result of British officials blocking the applications over the use of the Sussex surname and HRH titles (his or her royal highness) for his children, the newspaper said, citing an unnamed source. A source with knowledge of the matter told Reuters that the prince had a meeting with his late mother Diana's brother, Charles Spencer, to discuss the family name. The source also said other media reports which said Spencer had advised Harry against changing his surname and that the legal hurdles to doing so were insurmountable, were inaccurate. Harry, the younger son of King Charles, stepped down from royal duties in 2020 and moved to California, where he lives with Meghan and their two children, Archie and Lilibet. Since leaving, he and Meghan have been highly critical of the royals in TV documentaries, an explosive interview with U.S. chat show host Oprah Winfrey and most notably in Harry's best-selling biography "Spare." The prince is barely on speaking terms with either his father or his elder brother, heir to the throne Prince William. In a BBC interview last month, Harry said he wanted reconciliation with the British royal family, but that his father King Charles will not speak to him over a separate row about his security.
