Bombed PTT station to get compensation
The clarification was made on Monday after Kamonrat Phonsettalert, who runs a PTT Station in Ban Phue in Kantharalak district, lodged a complaint with the Energy Ministry, demanding help and fair treatment.
She said earlier that her business was insured by two companies, but the first excludes coverage for damage caused by armed conflict, whether directly or indirectly, while the second insurer only partially covers structural damage.
"The event was not an act of war because there was no invasion of a territory. It was the result of a conflict," said Kananusorn Thiangtrakul, the OIC's assistant secretary-general for the benefit protection division.
Executives from insurance companies recently discussed this issue and agreed that this was not an act of war, so compensation could not be denied, he said.
Compensation for property damage, injury and death must be paid to Ms Kamonrat and the families of the victims.
The filling station is still being inspected by military officers who are searching for unexploded devices within the compound. They expect to allow the owner to thoroughly assess the damage soon for compensation, said Mr Kananusorn.
The process of assessing the damage should take 15 days, followed by consideration on compensation by insurance companies for 15 days. The payment period will take another 15 days.
The attack that took place on July 24, which killed eight people and injured 13 others, should incur at least 14 million baht in damages, Ms Kamonrat said earlier.
The event forced the closure of the station for at least two months, while more than 50 employees face uncertain prospects when it comes to income, according to media reports, citing Ms Kamonrat.

Interior Minister Phumtham Wechayachai on Thursday laid down urgent policy directives to provincial governors and senior officials, calling for faster and more effective responses to deliver government policies as well as better serve the people. Meanwhile, the slow disbursement of financial support to those affected by the Thai-Cambodian border conflict also attracted attention when the provincial governors of Si Sa Ket, Surin and Ubon Ratchathani were summonsed by the House committee on administration to explain delays and inconsistencies in the distribution of emergency funds. Thai consumer confidence slips further
Thai consumer confidence dropped for a sixth consecutive month in July to its lowest level in 31 months due mainly to concerns over US tariffs, a lagging economy and government instability, a survey showed on Thursday. The index compiled by the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce fell to 51.7 in July from 52.7 in the previous month. The sluggish economy and the trade war, as well as high living costs, continue to undermine confidence, it said. 'The confidence index shows no signs of recovery, with consumer purchasing power still subdued,' university president Thanavath Phonvichai told a press conference. 'The economy shows signs of stagnation and needs more stimulation,' he said, adding that the economy might grow by only 1.7% this year, after 2.5% expansion last year. While the United States has reduced its tariff on imported goods from Thailand to 19% from 36%, there are still uncertainties relating to US tariffs on transshipments via Thailand from third countries, Mr Thanavath said. 'What needs to be clearly defined is tariffs on transshipments. They must be explicitly outlined for businesses to adapt accordingly,' he said. Consumers were also worried about the instability of the government following the suspension of Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra pending a ruling in a case seeking her dismissal for her mishandling of a phone call with former Cambodian premier Hun Sen. 'The political situation remains unstable following the prime minister's suspension from duty, creating an unclear outlook and undermining confidence,' Mr Thanavath said.
