Kailasagiri hill park all set to get a facelift
If things go as planned, a master plan is going to be drafted to take the project forward. It includes creation of an elevated walkway along the outer edge of the hill that would facilitate a 360-degree view of the city. With big plans in place where the artificial platform gets integrated with nature in a seamless manner, about 50 acres of the hilltop park will be developed like never before.
When CEO of Singapore-based Mandai Wildlife Group Mike Barclay recently paid a visit to the hilltop park along with Visakhapatnam MP M Sribharat and other officials, the tourist spot was considered for a serious transformation. 'It's a beautiful tourist spot. Currently, it is not much organised. The idea is to redevelop the entire stretch way better,' reasons the MP.
Incorporating best practices recommended by Mike Barclay, the project has been proposed to be transformed at a stretch. 'The CEO of Mandai Wildlife Group has a commendable track record. When he was the CEO of Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) before joining the Wildlife Reserves Singapore, he restructured the SDC and was instrumental in drawing massive footfall to Sentosa that rose to 20 million from a mere 5.6 million,' Sribharat elaborates.
Following the submission of a master plan, Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority will focus on a holistic transformation of Kailasagiri. 'Tourists visiting Visakhapatnam should have a minimum three-day itinerary wherein they could visit the beach stretches, Kailasagiri, Indira Gandhi Zoological Park. Kambalakonda Eco Tourism Park and return home reminiscing happy travel memories,' the MP emphasises.
With the proposal brought to the notice of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Mandai Wildlife Group sharing best practices, Kailasagiri is bracing for a structural change, adding a host of tourist-attractive features to it.

British retailer Tesco to set up distribution center; to create 15,000 additional jobs in Karnataka
Tesco, the UK-based retail giant, is planning to open a new distribution centre in Karnataka, which is expected to generate 15,000 additional jobs, according to Large and Medium Industries Minister M.B. The FTA would pave the way for duty-free access for 99% of India's exports to the UK and 90% of UK exports to India. This, Mr. Patil noted, would mean more affordable products, greater market access for businesses, and a surge in commerce benefiting consumers and industries in both countries. He urged the UK-based firms to leverage the State's technology capabilities, robust infrastructure, and industry-friendly ecosystem. Leading British firms such as Rolls-Royce, BAE Systems, Tesco, ARM, HSBC, and Aviva already have a significant footprint in Bengaluru and across Karnataka, Mr. Patil said.

DRI arrestes trader for 13.79 crore walnut import scam in Mumbai
Mumbai: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested Bhushan Suryakant Sawant, proprietor of M/s Mahant Enterprises, for allegedly diverting duty-free imported inshell walnuts into the domestic market in violation of the Advance Authorization Scheme, causing a revenue loss of over Rs 13.79 crore. Investigations revealed that Mahant Enterprises obtained two Advance Authorization licenses from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) on 24 December 2024 to import inshell walnuts duty-free, with the obligation to export processed walnut kernels. However, analysis of e-way bill data indicated that in many cases, the declared movement of goods never occurred, and only paper-based transfers were generated to support fictitious transactions. Several consignments were shown as transported to Leh Cold Storage Pvt. Ltd., Sonipat—an undeclared business location. Searches there found no stock belonging to Mahant Enterprises, despite e-way bills showing dispatches worth ₹9.78 crore.
