iPhone trick that can make your battery last much longer
All you need to do to boost your device's longevity is to place it face down when it's out of your pocket or bag. Placing your iPhone face down on a surface prevents the screen from lighting up every time you get a notification. The phone will still vibrate or make a sound when you receive a notification, but the screen won't wake up and drain your battery.
This feature, called Facedown Detection, was introduced in 2015 with iOS 9, and uses ambient light and proximity sensor to make the screen go black based on surrounding light levels. This is the same technology that turns your screen off when you hold it to your ear so you don't accidentally hang up during a phone call. The screen lighting up is one of the biggest draws on your phone's battery life.
So, if you want your phone to last as long as possible, it's important to reduce this to a minimum. Even though an individual notification only lights the screen up for a second, over time, this can mean your phone is on for a much longer period. A 2023 study conducted by Common Sense Media found that about half of girls aged 11 to 17 receive over 230 notifications a day.
Some teenagers in the study received up to 5,000 notifications in a 24-hour period. That means your phone screen can end up being on almost constantly, draining a lot of power. Unfortunately, Apple doesn't have any way of preventing the screen from waking up when it receives a notification.
Other than turning your iPhone face down, the only other option is to limit the number of push notifications you receive. You can either do this by placing your phone on Do Not Disturb and stopping all notifications, or changing individual apps' notification settings. To do this, go into Settings on your iPhone, select 'Notifications' and then select an app's icon. From here, you will be able to prevent the app from sending notifications by turning off 'Allow Notifications'.
Alternatively, you can minimise how often you get notifications by scheduling a notification summary. This will send you a collected summary of any notifications that would have appeared before a set time. To do this, go to the 'Scheduled Summary' tab under notification settings and turn on Scheduled Summary.
Tap 'Continue', select the times you want to receive the notification summary, select the apps you want to be included, and then select 'Add Apps'. Now, when your iPhone is set to 'Focus' mode, all notifications will be delayed until the scheduled summary to prevent you from being interrupted. If that still isn't keeping your battery from draining, you could also try turning off location services.
This is because your GPS hardware requires more battery to run and its impact can often depend on the strength of the signal and the location's accuracy. For example, if you're using Google Maps to share your location with someone else, the app is likely to be accurate, causing more drainage on your battery. It's therefore advised to turn off your location when you're not using it by heading to the privacy and security section in settings and clicking on 'location services' where you can turn the feature off.

Master Microsoft Project 2025 : Transform Chaos into Seamless Success
What if you could transform chaos into clarity and turn even the most complex projects into seamless operations? For project managers, the stakes are high—deadlines loom, resources stretch thin, and unexpected challenges arise. Yet, with the right tools, these hurdles can become opportunities for efficiency and innovation. Enter Microsoft Project, a powerhouse platform designed to simplify scheduling, optimize resource allocation, and resolve conflicts before they derail your progress. Whether you're juggling overlapping timelines or coordinating a multi-team initiative, this guide will show you how to harness the full potential of Microsoft Project to stay ahead of the curve. In this piece, Simon Sez IT uncovers actionable strategies and essential features that will reshape how you approach project management. From using the Task Inspector to resolve scheduling conflicts to mastering resource allocation tools that prevent bottlenecks, you'll gain insights that go beyond surface-level tips. Curious about how to adapt to shifting priorities or document critical updates effectively? This tutorial will also explore features like inactive tasks and notes, offering practical solutions for real-world challenges. By the end, you'll not only understand the 'how' but also the 'why' behind these tools, empowering you to lead projects with confidence and precision. After all, effective project management isn't just about meeting deadlines—it's about creating a workflow that thrives under pressure. Microsoft Project Management Tips Key Features for Scheduling and Conflict Resolution Scheduling is at the heart of project management, and Microsoft Project offers several features to help you create and maintain efficient timelines. One of the most valuable tools is the Task Inspector, which analyzes task dependencies, constraints, and resource allocations to identify potential scheduling conflicts. For example, if a resource is overallocated, the Task Inspector provides actionable suggestions, such as rescheduling tasks or assigning alternative resources. This ensures that workloads are balanced and deadlines remain achievable. Another critical feature is the use of task predecessors, which establish logical relationships between tasks. By defining these dependencies, you can create a structured workflow that minimizes delays and ensures tasks are completed in the correct sequence. This approach not only reduces the likelihood of conflicts but also provides greater clarity for all team members. Additionally, Microsoft Project allows you to set constraints on tasks, such as 'Start No Earlier Than' or 'Finish No Later Than,' to align with project requirements. These constraints help you maintain control over your schedule while accommodating external factors like client deadlines or resource availability. Strategies for Effective Resource Allocation Resource management is a common challenge in project management, but Microsoft Project offers tools to help you allocate resources efficiently. One of the most useful features is the leveling delay column, which allows you to add delays to tasks without disrupting the overall project timeline. This is particularly helpful when addressing resource overallocation, as it enables you to redistribute workloads and prevent bottlenecks. Understanding elapsed days (E days) is another important aspect of resource allocation. Elapsed days account for non-working periods, such as weekends or holidays, making sure your project timeline reflects real-world conditions. By factoring in these periods, you can create more accurate and realistic schedules. Microsoft Project also includes resource views, such as the Resource Usage and Resource Graph views, which provide insights into how resources are allocated across tasks. These views help you identify potential conflicts and make informed decisions about reallocating resources to maintain productivity. Using Inactive Tasks for Flexibility Flexibility is essential in project management, as priorities and circumstances can change over time. Microsoft Project's inactive tasks feature allows you to temporarily exclude tasks from project costs and resource calculations without permanently deleting them. This is particularly useful for tasks that may be postponed or deemed unnecessary during the planning phase. For example, if a task is no longer a priority but may become relevant later, you can mark it as inactive. If circumstances change, you can reactivate the task and seamlessly reintegrate it into your schedule. This feature provides a practical way to adapt to evolving project needs while maintaining a clear and organized plan. Improving Documentation with Notes Clear and effective communication is a cornerstone of successful project management. Microsoft Project enables you to attach notes to tasks or resources, providing a convenient way to document critical details, updates, or instructions. These notes ensure that all stakeholders have access to the information they need to stay informed and aligned. With formatting options, you can highlight key points within your notes, making them more accessible and impactful. For example, you can use bold text to emphasize deadlines, resource requirements, or important updates. This feature not only improves documentation but also enhances collaboration by making sure that everyone involved in the project has a clear understanding of their responsibilities. Hands-On Exercises to Build Proficiency To fully use the capabilities of Microsoft Project, consider practicing the following exercises: Use the leveling delay column to resolve resource conflicts by applying task delays and observing their impact on the project timeline. to resolve resource conflicts by applying task delays and observing their impact on the project timeline. Woman who filmed viral moment CEO and HR director were caught on Coldplay kisscam taunts the couple with cheeky swipe
The Coldplay fan who was filming when a tech firm CEO was broadcast to a stadium of people with his arm around his HR chief has spoken out about the moment - to take a cheeky swipe at the couple. Grace Springer, 28, was recording from the crowd when Andrew Byron and Kirstin Cabot appeared on the big screen together at Boston's Gillette Stadium on Tuesday. The couple recoiled, with Byron, the head of the AI startup Astronomer, diving out of view and Cabot covering her face and turning away from the camera. Coldplay's Chris Martin poked at the couple on the kiss cam, jokingly speculating: 'Either they're having an affair, or they're just very shy.' Grace, from New Jersey, went on to share the drama on TikTok, before it very rapidly grew into a viral sensation. She told the U.S. Sun she had no idea who they were, but but thought it was an 'interesting reaction' to the kiss cam. 'A part of me feels bad for turning these people's lives upside down, but, play stupid games… win stupid prizes,' she told the outlet. The video been seen tens of millions of times in the last three days. Springer said there was 'a lot of talk' about the kiss cam at the show, but 'no one knew who they were'. It has since emerged that the company the pair work for provides generative AI software to a number of major companies including Uber, Ford and LinkedIn. Byron heaped praise on Cabot in a November 2024 post about her appointment to the firm. 'Kristin's exceptional leadership and deep expertise in talent management, employee engagement, and scaling people strategies will be critical as we continue our rapid trajectory,' he said in a press release. 'She is a proven leader at multiple growth-stage companies and her passion for fostering diverse, collaborative workplaces makes her a perfect fit for Astronomer.' The Daily Mail has contacted Byron, Cabot and Astronomer for comment. Byron became CEO of Astronomer in 2023, and the startup rapidly grew under his tenure including a reported 292% growth in revenue for its 'Astro' platform that year. Before working at Astronomer, he worked at cybersecurity tech company Cybereason. A 2018 report on the company included claims from staff that the appointment of Byron as chief revenue officer a year prior had 'quickly caused turmoil'. Multiple former employees said Byron would lash out against staff who disagreed with him. 'You couldn't challenge him,' one told The Information, a tech industry outlet. Another employee said where people once 'loved' the company, 'now they hate it'. In the article, Byron denied having contentious dealings with staff, recognising that 'difficult decisions' may have 'disappointed some individuals'. Coldplay was performing at the ongoing Music Of The Spheres World Tour on Tuesday night. They will next play Madison, Nashville and Miami before heading back to the UK for a string of dates in August and September.

Trump targets ‘woke' AI in diversity crackdown
Donald Trump is preparing to launch a crackdown on 'woke' artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots as Republicans wage war on perceived Left-wing bias in Silicon Valley. The White House is preparing an executive order as soon as next week that would ban tech companies from government contracts if their AI is not 'politically neutral'. The decree, first reported by the Wall Street Journal, comes after a series of blunders by technology giants as they have sought to fine-tune their AI tools to avoid prejudice and offence. Last year, Google's Gemini chatbot prompted outcry after it generated pictures of racially diverse Nazis and other historically inaccurate images, such as black US founding fathers. Google was forced to pause the launch of its image-generating app to contain the problem. A chatbot from Facebook owner Meta generated similar historical 'woke' images. The errors came about as part of efforts by the companies to instil diversity into their tools. AI safety experts have long warned AI products risk amplifying the biases of their creators. These problems have caught the attention of David Sacks and Sriram Krishnan, Mr Trump's AI advisers, the Wall Street Journal said. Fight against liberal bias Republican politicians have for years railed against Silicon Valley's alleged liberal bias and accused companies of unfairly penalising conservatives with censorship and one-sided fact-checking. AI chatbots represent a fresh target for concern. Last year, Elon Musk, whose xAI has developed the aggressively 'anti-woke' Grok chatbot, said: 'A lot of the AIs that are being trained in the San Francisco Bay Area, they take on the philosophy of people around them. 'So you have a woke, nihilistic – in my opinion – philosophy that is being built into these AIs.' Mr Musk has even criticised his own Grok chatbot for being too liberally biased. Last month, he responded to a user on X who had claimed Grok was 'manipulated by Leftist indoctrination', pledging to fix the bot.
