Gareth Ainsworth hails win as big step in rebuilding Gillingham identity
That extended the club's unbeaten run to 14 games in all competitions, and 11 under Ainsworth, who took the Gills job in March.
After the game he applauded the efforts of all involved as he looks to build an identity at the Kent club.
'I am proud of a group of boys in there that have given everything today on a hot day,' he said.
'We didn't really hurt them too much in the first half.
'I made a change at half-time. I thought that the ball needed to stick up top a little bit more.
'There were some solid performances and real energy.
'They gave me everything. They deserve all of the credit. They have got the win.
'Not just the 11 that started and not the 11 that finished, the injured boys behind the bench.
'You felt it today. That's the identity that I want to bring back here.
'Brad and Shannon (Galinson, the owners) have been great. We decided to invest in the infrastructure and the changing rooms.
'(Managing director) Joe Comper was instrumental in helping with that.
'This identity thing is not just a rumour. It's something that I really want now.
'To be a Gillingham player and to play for Gillingham has got to mean something.
'That's what we're trying to build. '
Walsall boss Mat Sadler was left disappointed, feeling that neither side deserved maximum points.
'I don't think that either team did enough to win the game,' he said.
'I think that the heat played a big part in that, and the pitch got very sticky.
'For them, they get a very scrappy goal, which is frustrating from our point of view.
'For me, there wasn't much in the game at all.
'Both teams cancelled each other out, and it was the type of goal that wins a game like this. That's frustrating.
'I think that it was a draw game. I don't think that there was anything in it at all, which is disappointing.
'We have to move on and we have to pick ourselves up very quickly, because the next game comes very quickly.
'We have to learn to come away to places like this and pick up points and be on the other side of that for ourselves, and take those chances when they come our way.'

'Total pride' as Gillingham's unbeaten start continues
Gillingham boss Gareth Ainsworth reacted with "total pride" to his side's League Two win over Armani Little penalties, a debut goal from Lenni Cirino and a late strike from Marcus Wyllie secured a 4-1 victory over the Spireites on Gills are undefeated in the league after four games this season and Ainsworth said the club were taking "baby steps" towards where he wants to get them."[I'm feeling] Total, total pride. A real enjoyment of what I'm seeing, how I'm seeing this team develop," he told BBC Radio Kent."It was a really nice performance against a really strong Chesterfield side who are going to be there or thereabouts at the end of the season, no shadow of a doubt."They're a quality side so that makes it an even better win." Left-back Cirino joined Gills on a short-term contract in July having come through the Blackburn Rovers 22-year-old never made an appaearance for Rovers in an injury-hit early part of his career."Some magical moments tonight. Lenni Cirino has suffered with injuries at Blackburn, he's probably been held on for for too long at Blackburn, he should have played 50 first-team games by now but he hasn't and that's his debut," Ainsworth said."What a way to cap your debut. There's still some learning for him and believe me I'll be going through that with him, because there's some stuff in there he needs to learn, but what a moment for him to go through like that."He's not known for his strength but he's holding off two defenders, slams it in the goal."And Marcus Wyllie. I've believed in that boy, he gives me everything. And that's all I need, so the goal's an extra."Gillingham next face Crewe Alexandra at Priestfield on Saturday.

MK Dons boss Warne targets new left-back
MK Dons boss Paul Warne says the club are in the market for a new left-back after Joe Tomlinson limped off in the early stages of his side's 1-1 draw at Offord's second-half strike grabbed Warne's side a share of the spoils and maintained their unbeaten start to the League Two the former Derby County head coach confirmed the club are aware of his desire to strengthen at full-back before the transfer window shuts on 1 September."My director of football [Liam Sweeting] is waiting for me after this chat," Warne told BBC Three Counties Radio."We were looking to bring another full-back into the building anyway [before Tomlinson's injury] because we haven't got loads."It sounds like a classic but it sharpens your pencil a little bit. If this had been 1 October, it would have been a bigger issue."I'm saying all this, Joe [Tomlinson] might wake up tomorrow and feel amazing and he might be fine by next week, we don't know."But it definitely highlights the weakness in our squad."

Walsall's Hancock and Stuttle out for 'significant' time
Walsall head coach Mat Sadler says defender Mason Hancock and striker Jonny Stuttle face extended periods out of action after both suffered "significant" injuries in Tuesday's narrow home defeat by Grimsby 22, and teenager Stuttle, 19, both arrived at the club during the summer - from Airdrieonians and on loan from Bournemouth respectively - but were forced off with what looked like knee injuries either side of half-time."Obviously we'll see what the injuries are but it looks significant," Sadler told BBC Radio WM."It's difficult when it happens to two players, who we're just gaining those relationships with."It was unsettling but something we had to overcome. It's gutting for them. We hope they're OK but it looks like they'll be out for a significant time." Although Sadler was frustrated with the result against the Mariners, and the ruling out of a potential equaliser for offside, he said he was "not disappointed by what I saw" from his side and was happy his players "kept going and emptied the tank".But he said the loss of Hancock and Stuttle - two of 12 players signed so far this term - may make him ponder dipping back into the transfer market before the window closes on 1 September."The only saving grace when you have two injuries like that is that the window is still open," Sadler said."So we will see what that looks like and make some potential adjustments."
