Mr Maidment said even as a teenager at the school in Worcestershire, Glasspool had always been "level-headed, quietly determined and confident"."I can now say I've played tennis against a Wimbledon champion. Unfortunately, I did lose 6-0, 6-0, and he was only in year eight at the time."I am so, so pleased for him and everyone involved," Mr Maidment added. He described the title as "the icing on the cake" for the 31-year-old and said after he had now won Wimbledon, Queens and Eastbourne, his former student had secured "the triple crown".

Mr Maidments said Glasspool, who is a member of the Warwickshire Lawn Tennis Association, had sent a video message to the school from the courts at SW19 ahead of the school's recent annual sports awards. He added that he also received a personal thank-you message from his former student after Saturday's final."I've come a long way since when we played in year seven or eight and I gave you that little thrashing," Glasspool said to him. "It gave me a nice little confidence boost to go and do great things in the sport."I appreciate the support from you and the whole of the Woodrush School," the men's doubles champion added.

Liverpool willing to pay £120m for Alexander Isak as they approach Newcastle
Liverpool have made an approach for Alexander Isak at Newcastle United. The Premier League champions would be willing to offer around £120 million but that has prompted the Newcastle hierarchy to reiterate the message that their star player is not available this summer. Liverpool are also understood to hold an interest in Newcastle target Hugo Ekitike and could bid for the France Under-21 international if the club do not budge on Isak. Newcastle have been braced for this moment for months and are now mobilising to fight off Liverpool's approach. But there is naturally concern the player will have his head turned by Liverpool's enquiry. Senior sources told Telegraph Sport on Tuesday that Newcastle do not want Isak to leave and will do everything in their power to keep him. As things stand, Isak has not indicated he wants to leave but Newcastle are well aware of the fact the leaking of Liverpool's interest into the public domain is designed to unsettle the player. The fact Liverpool's enquiry mentioned a fee well below Newcastle's valuation of the 25-year-old, which is in excess of £150 million, suggests this is just the first play in what could become a protracted transfer saga. The chase for Ekitke further complicates matters. As revealed by Telegraph Sport, Newcastle have been pushing hard to sign the 23-year-old this week and are making steady progress, despite having an initial bid of around £65 million rejected by Eintracht Frankfurt.

Alexander Isak transfer odds: Liverpool favourites to sign Newcastle striker in £120m deal – ‘there's a 58% chance'
LIVERPOOL are leading the race to sign Newcastle United superstar Alexander Isak, according to bookmakers Betfred. The Reds were priced at 7/4 this morning to land the Swedish striker - but those odds have since plummeted to 8/11, making Liverpool the clear favourites. The dramatic shift comes in the wake of a report from David Ornstein of The Athletic, who claims Liverpool are prepared to break their transfer record for a second time this summer in a bid to bring Isak to Anfield. Ornstein reports that the Merseyside club have made an initial approach for the 25-year-old and are willing to pay in excess of £120million for his signature. Although no formal offer has yet been submitted, Liverpool have made acquiring a top-class striker their priority this summer as they look to bolster their attacking options. SunSport understands that Newcastle, who recently saw a £69.5m bid for Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike rejected, have made it clear they have no intention of selling Isak. Since joining from Real Sociedad in 2022 for £63m, Isak has scored an impressive 54 goals in 86 Premier League appearances. Newcastle are believed to value the striker at around £150m - a figure that could prove a stumbling block, even for a club with Liverpool's financial muscle. Nevertheless, Liverpool remain firm favourites in the betting markets, now odds-on at 8/11 with Betfred. Former World Snooker champion Neil Robertson lands new job – and it could affect Ronnie O'Sullivan
NEIL ROBERTSON has landed himself a new job, which could have an impact on snooker rival Ronnie O'Sullivan. Three months after his shock first-round exit at the World Championship, the Aussie has bagged himself a new gig with the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association. 2 2 Robertson has been added to the WPBSA's Players' Board, a role which will require him to represent and support players outside of the UK on the World Snooker Tour. A snippet of WPBSA statement read: "It has today been announced that Neil Robertson has been co-opted to join the Board of WPBSA Players with immediate effect. "The 2010 world champion is widely regarded as one of the best long-potters and break-builders in the history of the sport and has won an incredible 25 ranking titles as well as being one of only 11 players in history to complete the Triple Crown. "In 2014, he became the first player to compile over 100 century breaks during a single season. "As the most successful player to ever come from Australia, Robertson's own personal experience as a professional – which includes relocating from his home nation to the UK as a teenager, will help to ensure that the many players from outside of the UK are represented and supported during their time on the World Snooker Tour." Fan favourite Robertson is over the moon with his new gig. He said: "It is an honour to have the opportunity to represent the views and feelings of my fellow professionals. "And to be able to use my own personal experiences to help the next generation of players." Robertson isn't the only player to have recently been handed a gig by the WPBSA. The organisation recently appointed Ben Woollson as their second-ever player-director in June, five months after Mark Davis' appointment.
