Labourer's mud house turns village's hub of joy after NEET feat

Shrawan's (R) family's only source of livelihood comes from washing utensils at ceremonies, along with occasional MGNREGS work JAIPUR: Shrawan Kumar, 19, of Rajasthan's Balotra who toils in a factory while studying and whose parents wash dishes at village ceremonies to support life in a thatched two-room mud house, has cleared this year's NEET. Shrawan was at work in his factory in Balotra when he received word that he secured an impressive 4071 rank in OBC category. His score is likely to earn him a seat in three to four government medical colleges in Rajasthan. With just over 55,688 MBBS seats in government colleges nationwide, Shrawan's success is extraordinary. His family's only source of livelihood comes from washing utensils at weddings and ceremonies, along with occasional MGNREGS work. Despite severe financial hardship, Shrawan remained focused on his education, completing both Class 10 and 12 from a government school, securing 97% and 88%, respectively. Saturday's NEET results put Shrawan's mud house amid sand dunes in Balotra's Khattoo village in the spotlight. Neighbours gathered to celebrate and social media influencers flocked to the spot, hailing the teenager and his parents. The fanfare was a far cry from the days since his childhood when Shrawan helped his father clean utensils at village ceremonies and rear livestock to support the family. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pinga-Pinga e HBP? "It extended my study hours & internet exposed me to outside world," he told TOI. Shrawan received free NEET coaching from government doctors in Barmer, who mentor underprivileged kids.

J Tired of too many ads? go ad free now aipur: From dreaming of joining the NDA to securing All India Rank 14 in NEET-UG, it's been a rollercoaster ride for Jaipur's Somya Sharma who set out to fulfil his parents' dream. Somya's preparation started in Class 11, riddled with doubts and apprehensions about cracking the exam. "I was interested in Mathematics until Class 10 and wanted to get into the NDA, but my parents wanted me to become a doctor. So, I chose NEET because I could get an opportunity to study at the Armed Forces Medical College. But now that I have such a good rank, AIIMS Delhi is my aim," said Somya. Preparing for the exam for the past two years and getting less marks in tests sometimes affected his morale, but teachers' and parents' support helped him improve. The rank-holder strictly stayed away from social media to avoid distractions. "I knew if I made an account on social media, I would use it, so I did not make one," he said. Somya's turning point came when he scored below-average marks in practice test. A depressed Somya locked himself in a room and did not eat or talk for a few hours. "On this, my parents called my teachers, who explained to me that tests help students understand their weaknesses and strong points," said Somya. Another student from Jaipur, Devyansh Arora who stood 66 in NEET-UG, shared that he worked on his mistakes and did not repeat them. Devyansh kept a 'Silly Mistake Book', where he would make a note of every mistake that he made to avoid making it again. Another student Saurav Sharma from Jaipur secured All India Rank 101.
