Enhanced Nusuk Card to safeguard Malaysian haj pilgrims from forgery as Haj journey begins, says religious affairs minister
SEPANG, April 29 — The enhanced Nusuk Card is now equipped with a quick response (QR) code to prevent forgery of the official identification card for haj pilgrims, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar.
He said the card now has several layers of security features to ensure the safety of its holders.
'This means that any attempt to duplicate it would be difficult as it comes with multiple enhanced security layers introduced by the Saudi Ministry of Haj and Umrah,' he told reporters after attending the Send-off Ceremony for Malaysian Haj Pilgrims for the 1446H/2025M Haj Season here today.
Also present was Lembaga Tabung Haji chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Hussain.
Mohd Na'im said the Nusuk Card, introduced three years ago as the official identification document for pilgrims, has helped ease the entry of haj pilgrims from across the globe into the Masjidil Haram in Makkah, the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah, and other pilgrimage sites while performing the fifth pillar of Islam.
Earlier, Mohd Na'im reminded the 284 Malaysian pilgrims who departed for the Holy Land early this morning to safeguard their Nusuk Cards at all times, as the card contains personal data, including passport and visa information, enabling easy identification of the pilgrims.
'You must take good care of the Nusuk Card since it's similar to our MyKad. Remember my advice, treat it just like you would your MyKad,' he said.
On flight arrangements for the 31,600 Malaysian pilgrims for this haj season, Mohd Na'im said a total of 100 special chartered flights via AMAL by Malaysia Airlines Bhd and Saudia Airlines have been scheduled starting today, with the final flight set for June 1.
'The first group of Malaysian pilgrims is expected to arrive at the Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah at 7.50 am (Saudi time) tomorrow,' he added.
Malaysia's official haj quota allocated by the Saudi Arabian government this year is 31,600 pilgrims, who will arrive in the Holy Land in stages. — Bernama

It was later explained that she bought a different cat from the one her daughter was holding. She then emphasised that she really did buy the cat from Songkhla and was not lying about bringing the animal back from Thailand. The seller allegedly told her that the cat can be brought back to Malaysia with no issues Some folks asked her how she managed to pass border control when transporting the cat back to Malaysia. She told the other users that she had asked the seller prior to purchasing the feline 'Can we bring the cat back to Malaysia? What do we do at the border?'. She then claimed that the seller said it wouldn't be a problem because a cat is not like other animals that require a licence to purchase. When they reached the border, she claimed that customs officers checked their entire car and let them through back into Malaysia. 'When we reached the border, customs checked our entire car and they were okay. If we weren't allowed to bring it back, we wouldn't. But the seller said it was okay and not wrong to do so,' she said. Imported animals need to be quarantined before entering Malaysia One user on Threads asked about the family's experience at the border when they brought the cat through, and stated that cats being imported into the country would usually be quarantined by the Department of Quarantine and Inspection Services Malaysia (MAQIS). Meanwhile, another individual threatened to report the family to MAQIS for bringing an animal from another country into Malaysia without quarantine, reminding them about rules to prevent diseases from spreading. TRP reached out to MAQIS to ask them about the procedure for bringing in animals from other countries, including Thailand. A spokesperson said on the phone 'According to procedure, even a tiny plant will be confiscated. What more a live cat'. Additionally, an email response from MAQIS included documents on official terms for importing pets (cats and dogs). It explained that the conditions are important in ensuring the safety of Malaysia's biosecurity. In the document, MAQIS highlighted the import permit section which states that the animal must be accompanied by a pet passport or certificate containing a full description or identification. A list of conditions are also required under the Veterinary Certification, while the Quarantine Requirement section states that the animal being imported must undergo a compulsory quarantine period of not less than 14 days. Meanwhile, the guideline for importing pets published on MAQIS' website states nine rules before an animal such as a cat or dog can be brought past the border. Among the rules stated in the guideline include the animal cannot be below three months of age, must have a microship implanted, and is compulsory to undergo quarantine as soon as it reaches Malaysia. Batik Air makes inaugural direct flight from KL to Dili
Batik Air operates two weekly flights from Kuala Lumpur to Dili. — JAIME GUSMAO/Unsplash Batik Air Malaysia's inaugural flight from Kuala Lumpur to Dili, Timor-Leste successfully touched down at the President Nicolau Lobato International Airport this morning (June 6). Welcomed with a traditional water salute (whereby two firetrucks generously hosed down the plane once it landed), the first batch of Malaysian passengers – including a handful from the media – were also greeted with a welcome ceremony attended by local dignitaries and industry shareholders. The direct flight to the capital city of Timor-Leste marks Batik Air as the first Malaysian carrier to serve the route. The airline operates two flights (Monday and Friday) weekly to Dili. "The commencement of this route is very significant," said Datuk Amarjit Sarjit Singh, ambassador of Malaysia to Timor-Leste, at the welcoming ceremony. He shared that many in the country, including non-citizens and expatriates were excited about the new route, as Batik Air's extensive connectivity would "allow for seamless travel to and from Dili". Makkah Route Initiative Wraps Up, Facilitates Hajj Travel For Over 314,000 Pilgrims
MUZDALIFAH (Saudi Arabia), June 6 (Bernama-SPA) -- The Makkah Route Initiative, one of the Saudi Interior Ministry's flagship efforts under the Pilgrims Experience Programme of Saudi Vision 2030, has successfully concluded its operations for this year's Hajj season, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported. The initiative operated from 12 airports across eight countries: Morocco, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Turkiye, Côte d'Ivoire, and—participating for the first time—the Maldives. All beneficiaries have now arrived in the Kingdom. Implemented by the Interior Ministry in cooperation with various partner entities, the Makkah Route Initiative served a total of 314,337 pilgrims.
