Despite how capable and rugged the Ford Ranger Raptor is, someone has pushed the bakkie too far after getting enormous air over a dune before crashing down on the earth below! The visible result seems to be a totalled bakkie. Watch below.

While exact details remain uncertain, a video has gone viral showing a Ford Ranger Raptor launching off a massive beach dune in Canoa Quebrada, Ceará, Brazil, before rejoining the earth beneath in spectacular fashion. Reports suggest that the driver had purchased the vehicle just a day prior to the incident, and despite the severity of the crash, the driver reportedly emerged unscathed. Gaining quite a bit of momentum online (like the bakkie did before it got that air), many have slammed the reckless stunt, which very obviously wrote off the bakkie, but could have also caused serious harm to the occupants in the car.

As a reminder, the extensively tested Ford Ranger Raptor features a significantly upgraded suspension system designed for serious off-road performance without compromising on-road comfort either. The headline upgrade are FOX 2.5-inch Live Valve Internal Bypass shocks that adjust up to 500 times per second for real-time terrain response. The rear suspension also uses coil springs with a Watts linkage and trailing arms, replacing the standard leaf springs. On the chassis front, Ford Performance has ensured it can take a beating with reinforced components like the front frame rails and shock towers.

All of these upgrades meant nothing with that amount of airtime and force when it rejoined the sandy earth beneath it. Some complex calculations based on very rough estimates from the video below suggest the Ford Ranger Raptor, which weighs just under 2 500kg, was airborne for about 2.5s, suggesting a drop height of roughly 7.6m and an impact speed over 12m/s. Assuming the suspension bottomed out in 0.3s, the bakkie would've hit the ground with an estimated force of over 100 000 newtons — about the weight of 10 tonnes slamming into the earth. Even for a Raptor, it's no surprise the airbags deployed, and it needed to be unceremoniously dragged off the dunes.

Ulterio Motiv is gearing up for its debut at the Hankook Land Cruiser Festival, where it will showcase three of its latest builds based on the Toyota Land Cruiser 79 platform. One of the most iconic is the G-Class-based Brabus 6×6, which recently made headlines, but perhaps the more practical and capable farm counterpart is Ulterio Motiv's six-wheel Land Cruiser conversion. Owing to such an adoring community and aftermarket support, the Toyota model features its very own gathering dubbed the Hankook Land Cruiser Festival. Also known as the Land Cruiser Festival & Africa Record, the 2025 edition is set to take place from Friday to Sunday at Sondela Nature Reserve & Spa in Bela-Bela, Limpopo. Organised by Trio Events, the festival offers a range of activities for attendees. These include outdoor exhibitors, food stalls, live performances, kids' entertainment, arts and crafts markets, warm water swimming pools, and the LA Sport Pretoria Cruiser Action Arena. Additionally, participants can enjoy a sunset game drive in convoy and a Sunday buffet breakfast. The festival also aims to set an African record by gathering the largest number of Land Cruisers in one location. Local tuning house Ulterio Motiv will be there and plans on showing off two six-wheeled conversions based on the Land Cruiser 79: A 2.8 GD-6 Single Cab and a Double Cab. Both have been fitted with an additional axle, with the chassis developed in-house by Ulterio Motiv. A third vehicle, the SVI Engineering Max 3 Six-Wheeler, has also received a 6×4 chassis conversion by the company. That model is intended for military applications. The Land Cruiser Festival, now in its latest edition, brings together more than 50 exhibitors and a wide range of fans, aftermarket suppliers, and vehicle builders. It has also become the site of regular record attempts involving large groupings of Land Cruiser vehicles — a tradition Ulterio Motiv will be participating in this year. Ulterio Motiv states it's targeting buyers looking for highly adaptable platforms that can be further developed for commercial or specialist use. The company's chassis work allows for greater payload capacity and off-road performance while leaving room for further customisation. Mechanical expert Juan Vosloo and business development director Nicol Louw will be on hand to speak with visitors and discuss the technical details behind the builds. Top 5 vehicle exporters for May 2025
While the new car market saw some positive growth, South African vehicle exports for May 2025 saw a considerable dip. Here is a look at the Top 5 for the month. Looking for a new or used vehicle? The SARB cut the interest rate by 25 basis points, and while Naamsa mentions this is expected to enhance credit affordability and reduce capital costs across the board, it holds particular significance for vehicle exporters. Lower interest rates reduce borrowing costs for manufacturers investing in tooling upgrades, retooling for new model production, and scaling export operations. With inflation easing to 2.8% and the Rand gaining strength, the environment is more conducive to attracting capital into export-oriented manufacturing. Vehicle exports fell by 5 165 units, or 14.6%, to 30 112 units compared to the 35 277 units exported in May 2024. German automaker Mercedes-Benz kept output at a steady 6 600 for the month and BMW's Rosslyn plant outputted 5 700 exports which represents a 500 unit rise from April. In contrast, Toyota experienced a decline, with exports falling by 1833 units to 5 566. As mentioned prior, retooling in Kariega saw Volkswagen drop 1 026 units, ending the month at 4 305 exports.
