14-year-old Jacksonville boy with autism reported missing
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is asking for help locating a missing 14-year-old boy who has autism. Leland 'Mikey' Scales, 14, was last seen around 11 p.m. Monday in the 7100 block of Natal Avenue, a JSO news release states.
'It is unclear when he left the residence, but he was seen on foot between 2:30 a.m. and 3 a.m. in the 6900 block of West Beaver Street, heading east while carrying an orange and black backpack,' the news release states.
Leland is 5′4″, 150 pounds with blue eyes and blond hair. He was last seen wearing a black Spiderman T-shirt and black basketball shorts.
Anyone with information about the child's whereabouts should contact JSO at (904) 630-0500 or 911.

Man accused of causing crash that killed teen while running from several police agencies
An 18-year-old man accused of causing a crash that killed a 15-year-old boy while running from police is now facing charges. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck said Dominick Parlett, 18, of New Lebanon, was indicted on the following charges on Wednesday: One count of Aggravated Vehicular Homicide One count of Involuntary Manslaughter Three counts of Failure to Comply One count of Receiving Stolen Property – motor vehicle Two counts of Vehicular Assault The crash occurred at the intersection of Little Richmond Road and North Snyder Road on Nov. 19, 2024, after multiple police chases. Moraine police initially spotted a Ford Escape that had been stolen from Fairborn earlier that day. Less than 10 minutes later, Miamisburg police spotted the same SUV and tried to stop it. However, the car took off again, and officers stopped the pursuit due to high speeds. Montgomery County Sheriff's deputies spotted the SUV a short time later in Jefferson Township and tried to pull it over. Parlett drove away from deputies and got it into the City of Trotwood before crashing. Parlett allegedly ran away from the scene of the crash, but was eventually arrested after a short chase. 15-year-old Jaden McClaskey was inside the SUV during the pursuits and crash. He was critically injured and died from his injuries two days later, according to Heck. Another juvenile inside the car was injured but survived. Days before the crash, Parlett was arrested for receiving stolen property after crashing a different stolen car, according to Heck. Montgomery County Jail records show that Parlett was booked into jail around 5 p.m. on Wednesday. 'Once again we see the tragic consequences that can happen when defendants flee from traffic stops. Pursuits are dangerous, not only to other drivers, but also the law enforcement officers and even to those fleeing. Red Cross helping at least a dozen families affected by Riverbank Apartments fire in Jacksonville
The American Red Cross said it is assisting people who were displaced in a fire at the Riverbank Apartments on Wednesday night. The complex is located at 1591 Lane Ave South. The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department shared on its X account just before 5:30 p.m. that its crews were responding to the fire. The Red Cross said in a news release that it is "providing financial assistance for emergency needs like food, clothing, temporary housing, prescription medication replacements, and mental health support." Currently, the Red Cross said it is working with a dozen families, but 'the situation is evolving.' ‘It was critical': St. Augustine close to finishing $1.35M City Hall waterproofing project
The City of St. Augustine is about two months away from finishing a project it describes as critical, but one you may not have known about. If you've walked through the courtyard of the Alcazar building, which includes City Hall and the Lightner Museum, you've likely noticed the scaffolding against the building. It's part of a $1.35 million project, funded through a state grant, to spray waterproofing material on the outside of the nearly 150-year-old building. 'If water keeps going into this building, it will crumble over time,' said Barb Moore, deputy director of general services for the City of St. Augustine. >>> STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <<< Moore says the City Hall building, which was first constructed in the late 1800s, was made from a material called coquina, a mix of concrete and shells. Moore tells Action News Jax the material isn't only nearly impossible to find, but absorbs water and has caused rain damage to the building over time. 'Over time, with just the age of the structure, it will wear away, if we don't do something. So it was critical, but it was just a matter of time and money,' Moore said. Until recently, the city says nothing has been done to fix the cracks and crumbles seen on the outside of the building and damage to its windows because of worries from historians. The building is on the National Park Service's register of historic places and historians, from what the city tells us, have been concerned about the chance that any repair or restoration work would change the look of the building. 'It will save the integrity of the building. You're going to see cracks still because it was built in the 1800s. But what we are doing is we are making the structure sound,' said Moore. Even though the work on the city hall side of the building is close to being finished, the city says there's another round of waterproofing work needed for the exterior of the building on the side that houses the Lightner Museum. There aren't any plans to waterproof other buildings in the city with similar water repellent material, but the city hopes the work being done on City Hall will inspire leaders of other coastal cities to consider the same solution to protect their pieces of history. 'It should save us in the end. It will save us everything,' said Moore. The city says the waterproofing material being put on the building right now should be able to protect it from water damage for the next 10 years.
