Huge 90s band Ace Of Base now from Eurovision failure to extremist gang regrets
From being involved in a far-right extremist gang to failing to qualify for Eurovision, the members of hit 90s group Ace of Base have been on quite the journey during their lifetime... Behind some of the best Europop songs of the 90s, Ace of Base have had a wild history. From humble beginnings in Sweden to gangland threats and even an unsuccessful Eurovision attempt, their story has everything... The Scandinavian electro-pop group was first formed in 1987 in Gothenberg, and was made up of siblings Jonas, Linn and Jenny Berggren with the quartet then being completed with founding member Ulf Ekberg. The group began working their way around the clubs of the Swedish city but struggled to take off, with heavy metal being the go-to for Swedes at the time, a far cry from the techno sound. But, after the release of the single Wheel of Fortune broke them into the charts, their next release, All that She Wants, would make them a hit across the world, as the track became certified platinum topping the UK charts for three weeks straight in 1993. They would continue to build on their success with hits like The Sign, becoming staples of clubs across the world in the early 90s. But, just as quickly as they shot to fame, they would as quickly disappear into obscurity. The group were last seen in a series of concerts between 2007 and 2009 as a trio without Linn, but since then the band's original members have all gone down some very different paths: Jenny Berggren After leaving the band in the late 00s, Jenny was the only member to continue recording music with a solo career, as well as turning to writing. In 2009 she published her autobiography, Vinna hela världen, and although an English version translated to 'To Win the World' was due to be released, it never came to fruition. In 2010 she released her first single, Here I Am, which only reached 14 on the Swedish charts before releasing her second single, Gotta Go, and her first album My Story that same year. The same year she was in the running to be the Danish contestant for the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest with her song, Let Your Heart B Mine, but she failed to get through and gain the nomination for the country to go to the event. She also appeared alongside Ulf in the 2024 for the Ace of Base: All That She Wants documentary looking at the band's story. In the show, she also recounts a scary experience when a fan broke into her home and held a knife to her throat in the early '90s Speaking to People about the ordeal, she said: 'I think that was when the star was born in me. I wanted to sing. I had to calculate with all the dangers, and I just realised, 'No, I want to sing. This is what I want'.' Ulf Ekberg Founder Ulf Ekberg has found himself working with and trying to grow tech start ups in Sweden. Speaking to ABC, the former musician said: "There's so many tech companies in Sweden, especially Stockholm. "I'm interested in creating a sector in technology and music. I'm building companies, and it's been a fantastic last five years. It feels like everything is exploding here. We are in a lot of different sectors, but we try to keep it to the creative sectors as much as possible; movies, TV, music and entertainment, which are obviously very close to my heart." In last year's documentary, Ulf also talks about his involvement with the far-right extremist gang in Sweden as a teenager, something that has shown his deep regret for. In the People interview, he added: 'I think it's a very important topic to talk about because it is a very angry world we live in right now. It's much more angry than when I was a teenager. 'I hope that maybe that part of this documentary can show that even if you are completely lost, you can always find your way and it's never too late — which, I was blessed with a second chance in my life." Jonas and Linn Berggren Since the end of the band, two have stepped back away from the public eye with Linn in particular staying away from the spotlight of fame. Jonas made a very brief appearance at an event covered at the end of the documentary, while Linn chose to write a letter which Jenny reads in the final episode. The band however did come back together for a one-off reunion on their 30th anniversary. To the delight of many fans, they came back to headline the 90s Nostalgic Electric Circus festival in Canada dressed up in black lace and flower-inspired outfits.

Netflix's latest crime series has left fans absolutely hooked with its sinister twists and eerie plot racking in 73 million viewing hours in just weeks. Netflix's latest crime thriller has turned into one of the streaming platform's most addictive breakout hits, racking in 73 million viewing hours and leaving social media users buzzing about its shocking twist. The six-part Swedish mini series, The Glass Dome, has already hit Netflix's top 10 list of non-English shows with the programme being branded as 'Scandi Noir at its finest' and 'one of the best shows' of the year by viewers who couldn't stop watching. The show, which was first released on April 15, follows criminologist Lejla Ness, portrayed by Léonie Vincent as she makes her way back to her hometown in Sweden after the death of her adoptive mother. However, she instead gets caught up in the case of a missing girl that bears haunting similarities to her own childhood abduction. The gripping mini-series, written by Camilla Läckberg and directed by Lisa Farzaneh and Henrik Björn, blends eerie psychological mystery with emotional depth. As Lejla digs deeper into the mystery, she is forced to come face to face with long-buried trauma and unearth dark secrets that tie the past to the present. Despite initially flying slightly under the radar, The Glass Dome ahs now exploded in popularity thanks to word of mouth and gushing online reactions, the Express reports. One Twitter user wrote: 'Anyone looking for an addictive Swedish crime series, I recommend #TheGlassDome on Netflix.' Another chimed in: 'Finished #TheGlassDome and it's one of the best shows I've watched this year. Suspense in almost every scene that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Very well done.' Other viewers applauded the programme's fantastic storyline and chilling finale with one remarking: 'A heavy, dark story but that twist? Unforgettable.' Someone else wrote: 'The glass dome on Netflix was so good. I didn't see that twist coming until the moment it happened. Men are evil!!!!' There were also comparisons to major prestige thrillers as one person penned:'Just binged Glaskupan (The Glass Dome) on Netflix and wow, this Nordic thriller had me on edge! The Glass Dome currently holds an 88% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, though the audience score is lower at 55%. Still, reviewers are calling it a must-watch. One commented: 'Although it tags a few familiar bases — an unreliable main character who's overmedicating, a less than bereaved husband — it's always engrossing even when the actions of the characters get more and more infuriating.' Another agreed: 'While the limited series isn't perfect, it still gives you a solid half-day binge with a few chilling moments and mild entertainment.' The Glass Dome is only six episodes long, proving that a limited run does not equate to a limited impact as fans are already begging to see more. One wrote:'#TheGlassDome needs multiple seasons." All four episodes of 'excellent' true crime drama available to stream on BBC
A new German true crime drama, The Black Forest Murders, has arrived on BBC iPlayer. The synopsis for the four-episode series reads: 'The clock is ticking… When a woman is bludgeoned to death, detectives face mounting pressure to crack the case and catch a killer.' And is described as an 'intense crime drama inspired by real-life cases.' The show is based on the non-fiction Walter Roth book which follows a 2016 police investigation into the mysterious murders of two young women in the south of Germany. In the show we see Senior Detective Barbara Kramer (Nina Kunzendorf) of the Lauburg police and her team, including Thomas Riedle (Tilman Strauß), embark on an investigation to apprehend the perpetrator. But as they hit dead-end after dead-end and little success through talking to witnesses and gathering evidence, the police face 'mounting pressure' to provide answers. Sue Deeks, Head of BBC Programme Acquisition, called the show an 'authentic and compelling crime series focussing on the work of a meticulous investigative team.' She added: 'As well as being a gripping murder mystery, the series offers a detailed look at the challenges of solving complex crimes, and the psychological toll on those involved in such high-stakes investigations.' 'I watched the entire series in one sitting and thought it was excellent. The meticulous investigation was amazing. Nina Kunzendorf was at her best as a fair and likeable boss in a strong team,'Sylvia Strobl praised on Google reviews. 'I found this four-part series extremely good. It was exciting, with good dialogue… and a very good portrayal of a real series of murders. The actors did a very good job, especially Ms. Kramer, who acted convincingly. It was a glimpse behind the scenes of a special investigation unit,' Karen Sabine Feuerhahm added. 'A wonderfully authentic and unpretentious narrative, a crime story like you'd only wish for, not cluttered with ridiculous subplots and overly contrived action. A fantastic team around Nina Kunzendorfer, who always remains believable,' Rike Straub echoed. The Guardian has a slightly cooler, but still praiseworthy, take, writing: ' Its attention to every single moving part means that the drama itself moves very slowly, and it is not so much a thriller as a satisfying puzzle, steadily coming together. Not a bad drama, then, but not a revolutionary one, either.' More Trending Elsewhere, The Sydney Morning Herald praised the drama as 'outstanding.' 'There are no grand deductive leaps, no cat-and-mouse interviews with a prime suspect. This is a gripping procedural founded on detail and diligence,' the publication added. Both also compared the show to Netflix's Swedish drama The Breakthrough, which also follows the story of a 'shocking double homicide which goes unsolved for 16 years.'
