The Bollywood singer opens up about the emotional toll of her profession, recalling how the passing of her mentor Ustad Rashid Khan last year, left her withdrawn and struggling to find her footing.
In a candid conversation with Mumbai Mirror, Shilpa shares why mental health in high-pressure creative fields needs more open dialogue, and why friendship, travel, and the beauty of other art forms have become her anchors.
Talking about the toll her profession can take Shilpa agrees, 'Absolutely. Last year, when Ustad Rashid Khan passed away, it hit me really hard. I found it difficult to socialize or even step out of the house, it shook me deeply.
But there were a few people who understood what I was going through and stood by me without judgment. That kind of support goes far beyond professional relationships, it becomes your emotional lifeline.
'
She points out that 'people say, 'Music helps' in such times. But hum toh musicians hain, hamesha music mein rehtain hain, hum kya karen?' Her answer has been to seek inspiration elsewhere: 'Sometimes, we need to lean on other forms of art, read, travel, these moments of beauty and inspiration help to heal.'
