Kerala CM Pinarayi directs NORKA to assist Keralites in Kashmir
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has directed NORKA Roots to set up immediate support systems to assist Keralites in Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of the terror attack in Pahalgam. He confirmed that four MLAs from the state and three High Court judges who are currently in Srinagar, are safe.
MLAs M Mukesh, K P A Majeed, T Siddique and K Ansalan are among those in the area. High Court judges Anil K Narendran, P G Ajithkumar, and Girish are safe in a hotel in Srinagar and are expected to return on Wednesday.
The news of the death of an Ernakulam native is extremely painful, the chief minister said. He promised that the government would take full responsibility to bring the deceased's family back to the state safely.
The chief minister has also instructed NORKA Roots to ensure that all necessary assistance is made available to Malayalis who are currently in Jammu and Kashmir for tourism.

Rape Survivor, Parents Refuse Abortion Consent, High Court Disposes Of Petition
Jabalpur: The Madhya Pradesh High Court has disposed of a petition about the delay in the termination of the pregnancy of a rape survivor after the girl and her parents refused to give their consent for the procedure. Government lawyer Mohan Sausarkar on Thursday submitted a report of four expert doctors stating that the girl, who is little over 14 years old, and her parents did not consent to abortion after being explained its possible untoward outcome. They wanted to continue with the pregnancy for the wellbeing of the girl, the report said. "Looking at the fact that the victim and her parents are not consenting to the medical termination of they wish to continue with pregnancy, they are at liberty to do further order is required to be passed in this petition," said Justice Amit Seth, disposing of the matter. On June 5, the court had initiated the petition on its own over the delay in the termination of the seven-and-half-month pregnancy of the rape survivor from Balaghat district, and sought a detailed report from the state government. The high court took suo motu notice of the matter after receiving a letter from the Balaghat district judge along with a report of the local civil surgeon dated May 26. "From the letter sent by the Principal District and Sessions Judge, Balaghat along with the report of Civil Surgeon dated 26.05.2025, it is not clear and apparent when the matter was reported to the concerning police station with regard to the sexual offence to the minor girl," Justice D Khot, who heard the case then, said. The court also wanted to know if the Standard Operating Procedure/guidelines issued by the High Court on February 20 were adhered to and followed in their true spirit in this case. The court then called for a report from the state "with all necessary details and case diary that under what circumstances the minor girl has been subjected to such delay in termination of pregnancy."

Kerala chief minister seeks central legislation to end wildlife attack
Kozhikode: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Saturday that legislation by the central govt was necessary to prevent wildlife attacks that threaten human life. He stated that it was the Congress-led central govt that introduced the amendment in 1972, providing protection to animals. The current central govt stands as the protector of that law. Therefore, both the Congress and the BJP, which governs the country today, share responsibility for wildlife attacks. Vijayan added that the central govt had not yet approved the package submitted by the state to prevent wildlife attacks. However, Kerala was doing everything possible in this matter and would continue to do so, he said. He was speaking at a rally organised by the LDF in Edakkara as part of the Nilambur byelection campaign. He mentioned that population control in the country applies only to humans, not to animals, and it was the 1972 law which is the reason for this. Under this law, animals have complete protection and they cannot be harmed. As it is a central law, states cannot amend it; they can only request Centre to do it. Rs 1.25 crore allotted to combat sea erosion in Chellanam
KOCHI: The state government has sanctioned Rs 1.25 crore from the Kerala State Disaster Management Fund to implement temporary coastal protection measures in Chellanam panchayat. The measures were in response to worsening sea erosion in the area. Geo bags filled with sand will be placed in Kannamali, Cheriya Kadavu, and Kattiparambu areas to curb sea intrusion. This was conveyed by Industries Minister P Rajeeve. Geo bags will be installed at seven locations between Kannamali and Manassery to provide temporary protection, he added. The district collector has instructed authorities to start the work on June 14. The work will start at four places where the sea erosion is fiercest, before June 17. The measure has been initiated following the High Court's tough stance on the public interest litigation filed by T A Dalphin and others seeking protection of the coast from Chellanam to Fort Kochi. The petitioners had urged the court to direct the authorities to inform the court of the steps and time frame proposed to be taken for coastal protection before June 17. Work to start today
