Jhulan Goswami hopes India sweeps the ODI series 3-0 against England. Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues shared memories with her ahead of the second ODI.
Ahead of the second ODI against England at Lord's, veteran pacer Jhulan Goswami wants the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side to sweep the 50-over series 3-0 after winning the opening encounter by four wickets in Southampton.
The visiting side has already proved their potential by winning their first-ever T20I series against England by 4-2 last week.
Ahead of their second ODI, Harmanpreet and Jemimah Rodrigues had a video call with the former pacer from the Lord's and shared their memories of playing together at the venue.
'So good to see you again. Guess where we are," Harmanpreet and Jemimah said in unison in a video posted by BCCI Women on X.
'We miss you Jhulu di," Jemimah said.
'Same here, I'm also missing you guys, I wish I was there watching this game from the stands," Jhulan replied.
Jemimah quickly responded, 'Not watching but playing with us, Jhulu di" to which all of them shared a laugh.
Continuing the conversation, India captain said, 'We will miss your Lord's spell tomorrow."
'I'm gonna miss you guys. It was a great memory. We won 3-0 for the first time in England. I hope you guys do that same. Repeat that same. You've got great momentum on your side," Jhulan said.
Goswami, regarded as one of India's finest fast bowlers, brought the curtain down on her illustrious career at Lord's in September 2022, taking two wickets in a victorious ODI against England to sweep the series 3-0 for the first time on English soil.
With the momentum on India's side following their historic T20I series win and win in the opening ODI, the hopes of repeating 2022 heroics are very much achievable for the touring team.
The second ODI is set to be played at Lord's on Saturday.

T20I Tri-series: South Africa sail into final with seven-wicket win over Zimbabwe

Rassie Van der Dussen and Rubin Hermann. (PIC - IANS) South Africa handed hosts Zimbabwe their third consecutive defeat in the ongoing T20I Tri-series with a seven-wicket win at the Harare Sports Club here on Sunday. With this win, the Proteas are through to the final of the series, where they will face New Zealand on July 26. Half-centuries by Rubin Hermann (63) and Rassie Van der Dussen (52 not out) saw South Africa chase down Zimbabwe's total of 144/6 in 17.2 overs with 16 balls to spare. Zimbabwe looked intent on not losing any early wickets as Wessly Madhevere (13) struck consecutive boundaries off Lungi Ngidi before being dismissed by Corbin Bosch. Clive Madande (8) struck a six off Nandre Burger before he too fell to Bosch. The wicket-keeper batter has been dismissed for eight runs in all three games so far in the tri-series. Skipper Sikander Raza (9) failed to make much of an impression as he was dismissed while attempting a slog sweep, which saw the ball sail straight to Burger at deep backward square. From there, Bennett and Ryan Burl (36 not out) began the rescue act for the hosts and put on a 78-run stand. A six and a four off Nqabayomzi Peter saw Bennett begin the fightback. He then went on to dish out the same treatment to George Linde to conjure 13 runs off the 13th over. A six off Linde saw Bennett raise his fourth T20I half-century in 38 deliveries. He followed it with consecutive boundaries off Ndidi before being bowled over by the Proteas pacer later in the 16th over. Despite Bennett's dismissal, Zimbabwe had the opportunity to register a strong total, but Tashinga Musekiwa (0), Tony Munyonga (1), and Tinotenda Maposa (8*) failed to make much of an impact, while also failing to rotate strike, which saw Burl miss out on a chance to finish strong. Bosch was heavily impressed on the day with two wickets and only 16 runs given in his four-over spell as Zimbabwe were restricted to 144/6 in 20 overs. In response, Zimbabwe started well with Tinotenda Maposa claiming the wickets of Lhuan-dre Pretorius (4) and Reeza Hendricks (6). The hosts had the chance to dismiss Rubin Hermann with a run-out, but skipper Raza missed the stumps. Van der Dussen and Hermann rotated the strike well and started building their partnership, but it was not until the 10th over that they picked up the pace by accumulating 17 runs from Raza. Hermann brought up his 29-ball half-century with a six off Maposa and began to take the game away from Zimbabwe. His innings, laced with three boundaries and four maximums, came to an end in the 16th over when he was bowled by Richard Ngarava; however, it was too late by then. Van der Dussen and Dewald Brevis steered the Proteas home, with the latter also scoring a half century off 40 deliveries, and ultimately sealed the seven-wicket victory. Brief score: Zimbabwe 144/6 in 20 overs (Brian Bennett 61, Ryan Burl 36 not out; Corbin Bosch 2-16) lost to South Africa 145/3 in 17.2 overs (Rubin Hermann 63, Rassie Van der Dussen 52 not out; Tinotenda Maposa 2-38) by seven wickets

England To NOT Take A Knee; FA Protests After Jess Carter Faces Racial Abuse At EURO 2025

Last Updated: England football authorities contacted police after Jess Carter revealed racial abuse during the UEFA Women's Euro. The FA aims to bring those responsible to justice. England FA have contacted police after defender Jess Carter revealed she has been subjected to 'a lot of racial abuse" during the UEFA Women's Euro tournament in Switzerland. The 27-year-old, who has started every match for the reigning champions so far, announced she would be stepping away from social media to concentrate on the remainder of the competition. Football Association chief executive Mark Bullingham confirmed the organization 'immediately contacted UK police" upon learning of the abuse. He emphasized that the FA is determined to ensure 'those responsible for this hate crime are brought to justice." England Change Anti-Racism Gesture Ahead of Tuesday's semi-final clash with Italy, the England squad announced they would stand—rather than take a knee—as their gesture against racism. In a statement, the team said: 'It is clear we and football need to find another way to tackle racism." In a statement shared on her social media platforms, Carter, who has earned 49 England caps, said: 'From the start of the tournament I have experienced a lot of racial abuse. 'Whilst I feel every fan is entitled to their opinion on performance and result, I don't agree or think it's OK to target someone's appearance or race. 'As a result of this I will be taking a step back from social media and leaving it to a team to deal with." Previous Incidents Carter is not the first England player to face racial abuse. In 2023, Lauren James was targeted online following a defeat with her club side, Chelsea. England men's players Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka, and Jadon Sancho also faced a wave of racist abuse after missing penalties in the Euro 2020 final defeat to Italy. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer added his voice, writing on X (formerly Twitter): 'There is no place for racism in football or anywhere in society." England head coach Sarina Wiegman voiced her support, stating: 'I stand with Jess and all Lionesses players past and present who have suffered racism." UEFA, European football's governing body, also expressed solidarity with Carter. (with AFP inputs) view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Sinner, Djokovic, Draper All Gone! Stars Withdraw From Toronto Masters Due to Injuries

Last Updated: Top tennis stars Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic, and Jack Draper have withdrawn from the Toronto Masters 1000 due to injuries. Three top tennis stars—Wimbledon champion Jannik Sinner, 24-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic, and world No. 5 Jack Draper—have withdrawn from the upcoming Masters 1000 tournament in Toronto, all citing injuries. The tournament, set to begin in a week, will now proceed without several of its biggest names, altering the landscape of the draw ahead of the U.S. Open. Sinner Sidelined by Elbow Injury World No. 1 Jannik Sinner announced he will not compete due to an injury to his right elbow. The injury occurred during a fall in his fourth-round match at Wimbledon, where he eventually captured his first title at the All England Club and fourth Grand Slam overall. Sinner, who claimed his maiden Masters 1000 title in Toronto in 2023, expressed disappointment over missing the event. 'Winning that title in Toronto two years ago was the start of a really special moment for me, but after speaking with my team, I have to recover," Sinner said. Novak Djokovic, a four-time champion in Toronto, also pulled out, citing a groin injury. The Serbian star was defeated by Sinner in the Wimbledon semifinals earlier this month. His absence removes a major contender from the field as he focuses on recovery ahead of the U.S. Open. Draper Withdraws from Summer Hard-Court Events British No. 1 Jack Draper has withdrawn from both the Toronto and Cincinnati Masters tournaments due to a left arm issue. As a result, he will miss all hard-court tune-up events leading into the U.S. Open, which begins August 24. 'After Wimbledon I picked up an injury in my left arm, nothing serious, but I have to make sure it recovers fully for the rest of the season," Draper shared on social media. 'Unfortunately, I won't be able to compete in Toronto and Cincinnati … See you in NYC!" (with agency inputs) view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
