Shot In The Arm For Uniformed Bodies As KBS Approves RM1 Mln For Sports Development
Minister of Youth and Sports, Hannah Yeoh, affirmed this commitment while chairing a Coordination Meeting for Uniformed Body Programs which was attended by senior and top-ranking officials from the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Malaysian Prison Department (JPM), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), and Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM).
"Uniformed bodies have long played a role as providers of athletes who have successfully won medals for the Malaysian Contingent in various international sporting events," she said in a statement issued by KBS today.

The statement also noted that sports championed by uniformed bodies, such as archery and shooting, have seen the involvement of many world-class athletes from ATM and PDRM.
Athletes from ATM, PDRM, JBPM, and JPM are also active in several other national-level sports, including lawn bowls, sepaktakraw, cycling, hockey, and boxing.
The statement highlighted some of the outstanding achievements by athletes from uniformed bodies, such as Saritha Cham Nong (ATM), who clinched a gold medal in the women's compound team event at the Asia Archery Cup Championship in Singapore, and Erma Firyana Saroji (PDRM), who won a gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and a bronze at the 2025 World Bowls Indoor Championship in Scotland.
In addition, Mohd Shaharil Aiman Halim (PDRM) & Mohd Afifudin Mohd Razali (ATM) secured silver medals in the team regu event at the 2024 Sepaktakraw World Cup in Kuala Lumpur. Mohd Affifudin also won a gold medal in the quadrant event at the 2025 Asia Sepaktakraw Championship.
At the same time, KBS supports the Malaysian Prison Department's focus on Petanque and JBPM's focus on Table Tennis.
"This is to meet the goal of expanding talent development efforts involving uniformed personnel as the next generation of athletes and future key contributors to the nation's success in sports at the international level," the statement read.

PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced an allocation of RM1 million to the Kuala Lumpur Football Association (KLFA) in support of efforts to revitalise football in the capital city. Anwar said the government consistently encouraged the development of football, which he described as a people's sport that was widely loved and participated in. However, he stressed that emphasis should be placed on infrastructure as a fundamental aspect in advancing the sport. 'This is an opportunity for us to elevate the status of national football, but it has to start from the basics. That is why what was raised just now about collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Higher Education, or other training institutes is important. 'It's not just about funding, but adequate infrastructure is crucial — proper fields, training facilities, training academies — to ensure our children are trained well and in comfort,' he said in his speech at the KLFA's 50th Golden Jubilee celebration here today. Also present were Communications Minister and KLFA patron Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and KLFA president Syed Yazid Syed Omar. Meanwhile, Anwar also urged that sportsmanship be preserved, including proper conduct among supporters, who at times behaved beyond acceptable limits and tarnished the spirit of unity. 'There are groups of supporters that can sometimes get out of control... Losing does not mean the team should be ridiculed,' he said. The Prime Minister also said he had instructed the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to monitor and control any incidents that could harm the image of national football, in line with the goal of sports as a medium of unity and healthy living. He said associations such as KLFA were also responsible for ensuring that sportsmanship and unity continued to be upheld among supporters and players. At the event, KLFA also announced several strategic collaborations, including with the Ministry of Education to strengthen football development at the school level and the Ministry of Youth and Sports in implementing coaching development programmes and initiatives involving youth. - Bernama

Hannah urges Pearly-Thinaah to focus on their game after BAM contract signing
KUALA LUMPUR: Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh has urged national women's doubles pair Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah to stay fully focused on their game following their new contract signing with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM). Expressing relief over the finalised agreement, Hannah commended BAM president Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz for ensuring player welfare. 'I hope Pearly and Thinaah will now concentrate entirely on training and competitions,' she said after launching the ASEAN Youth Volunteer Forum 2025 at Bank Negara Malaysia's Auditorium Sasana Kijang. Hannah assured that the duo, ranked third globally, will receive full BAM support, including facilities and coaching. 'They are part of the Road to Gold programme, and with strong backing, they can excel in upcoming championships,' she added.
