Why Grove Park may have been inspiration for E. Nesbit and The Railway Children
Grove Park and its railway station may just be the inspiration behind The Railway Children.
E. Nesbit, or Edith Nesbit, is famously known for her published works like The Railway Children, Five Children and It, and The Phoenix and the Carpet.
Over the course of her life, the esteemed author lived in a number of areas around south east London including Eltham, Blackheath and Grove Park.
At one time Nesbit lived in Well Hall, with her home backing onto what is now Well Hall Pleasaunce, and there are even records of the author punting in the moat around The Tudor Barn when she used to live there.

She was also friends with fellow south east London writers H.G. Wells and George Bernard Shaw, who she would frequently entertain as guests.
Whilst the village of Strines in Stockport also lays claim to being the inspiration for The Railway Children, Grove Park's strong claim is one that is highly regarded.

Nesbit lived in Baring Road between the years of 1894 and 1899, in a home called Three Gables next to The Ringway Centre – a rather similar sounding name to the fictionalised Three Chimneys house where the children move to.
The building is no longer standing, however a short way from the former house you'll find Railway Children Walk, which leads to the nature reserve and Railway Children Point, a spot that would have given the author views of the railway line and surrounding countryside.
This connection was marked with a map and trail financed by The Heritage Lottery Fund, which highlights sites of interest in Grove Park since the town's birth in the 1870s.

This home is also believed to be the inspiration behind another of her books – The Red House, published in 1902.
A plaque was later erected in Well Hall Pleasaunce in 2004, commemorating the author for her work, and reads: 'Edith Nesbit, with her magic touch of writing children's stories which still live on today in television and film adaptations, is the name now most associated with Well Hall House."

YouTube Music has started sneaking in more ads for free users
Joe Maring / Android Authority TL;DR Some free YouTube Music users are starting to see new banner ads. These ads are appearing between the cover art and the Now Playing controls. YouTube Music Premium costs $10.99 per month, but you can also use the service for free. Using the platform for free, however, comes with the drawback of being exposed to ads. And it looks like these users could get an extra dose of ads in the near future Currently, those who use the free version of YouTube Music are exposed to ads after every couple of songs. These ads appear on the Now Playing screen, taking over the space where the cover art is usually shown. Accompanying these ads is a 'Sponsored' label, a counter for the number of ads, and a timer. When these ads play, the progress bar turns yellow and the Now Playing controls are greyed out. In an attempt to pack in even more advertising, it seems YouTube Music is testing a new banner ad. Some users are reporting that they now see a banner ad that appears between the cover art and the Now Playing controls. Included in these banner ads is the advertiser's image, a line of text, the Sponsored label, and a URL. Off to the right is a dropdown arrow and a 'Buy now' button. Unlike the other ads, these banner ads don't interrupt your listening experience or take over your controls. Although these are not as invasive as the ones you have to listen to, users likely aren't thrilled they're getting an extra helping of advertisements. Fortunately, it appears this change has yet to roll out to most users. It's unclear how widespread this test is. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ . The Nintendo Switch 2 Should Get Its Most Important App Soon
Switch 2 The Nintendo Switch 2 is out and has sold millions of copies already. Its game roster is mostly reprised hits, with only a few truly new entries (Mario Kart World), but owners also want the handheld to be able to do more than just play games. As it stands, there is no YouTube app on the Nintendo Switch 2, mirroring the issue that the Switch 1 had for a long while. The original Switch was launched on March 3, 2017 and it did not get the much-requested YouTube app until November 8, 2018, over a year later. Nintendo and Google are apparently both trying to avoid that kind of lengthy wait this time around. The YouTube team app responded to a fan asking about the issue, and got a response: I'm not sure a list of other devices that play YouTube is helpful here. The timeline here is 'soon,' which I take to mean less than a year like we saw with the Switch 1. I am amazed that Nintendo has been making this console for probably half a decade and once again it launched without key dedicated video apps, YouTube included. I'm not clear on how they can get CDPR to tireless work on making Cyberpunk 2077 work well on the Switch but they can't figure out how to get YouTube or Hulu on the system for launch. It's bizarre. FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder Right now you can transfer the old YouTube Switch app to the Switch 2 but…it doesn't work, so that's not any sort of workaround. This is one of those things where I think we give Nintendo too much slack about, the fact that the console can launch with almost no actually new games and not even a ton of standard apps that it should have for day one. But hey, it's Nintendo and Nintendo always gets passes. Hopefully we hear more about this soon from a source other than what a help account bot, but I have to believe it's a priority on at least Google's side, if not Nintendo's. There's no way it can take as long as it did last time, right? Right? Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky and Instagram. Pick up my sci-fi novels the Herokiller series and The Earthborn Trilogy.

Nintendo Switch 2 lacks a YouTube app at launch — but it's coming ‘soon'
The Nintendo Switch 2 is proving to be a very capable game console. Our Switch 2 review in progress is filled with praise for Nintendo's latest hybrid system. However, one notable omission from the console's capabilities is the absence of a YouTube app. Thankfully, YouTube fans won't have to wait too long to get an app, as Google-owned YouTube says it's coming "soon." The official YouTube X account posted that the company is working with Nintendo to bring the app to your Switch 2, as spotted by 9To5Google. "We're working with Nintendo to make YouTube available on the Switch 2 soon," reads the post. Currently, the YouTube app is available on the original Switch console, so it's not a stretch for the follow-up to have access to the popular video streaming app too. However, it's worth noting that it took more than a year for the app to launch on the Switch — hopefully, YouTube and Nintendo are quicker this time. It's interesting that the original YouTube app isn't compatible with the Switch 2, as plenty of games and other apps have made the jump between generations without issue. It doesn't seem like there'd be anything prohibiting the YouTube app from working, but there could be something else preventing the original app from running. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Of course, this announcement comes after we heard that Hulu and other streaming apps wouldn't work on the Nintendo Switch 2, which clearly shows that Nintendo intends for the Switch 2 to be a gaming device first.
