MIAMI, June 18 (Reuters) - Al-Hilal might have fallen just short of victory, but their 1-1 draw with 15-time European champions Real Madrid at the Club World Cup on Wednesday underlined the growing strength of Arabic football on the world stage.
Simone Inzaghi's side produced a bold, organised performance against a Real team managed by Xabi Alonso, dominating stretches of the first half and going close to securing a shock win.
Al-Hilal next face RB Salzburg in a crucial Group H encounter, but Inzaghi was left encouraged by his team's display against one of the tournament's favourites.

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca yet to speak to Mykhailo Mudryk after doping charges
The 24-year-old is facing a lengthy ban after the Football Association announced on Friday it had charged the player. 'To be honest, I didn't see the news. They communicated (it to) me last night. There is nothing more that I can add at the moment because I don't have more information.' Chelsea did not officially comment after the charges were announced but have previously said they are supporting the player. Maresca said: 'The last time I spoke with Misha he was quite good. I didn't see him worried, or at least I didn't see him not good. It was OK. 'I don't know how he is now but for sure in the next days, weeks, we're going to have a talk.' Maresca dismissed speculation over the future of another winger in England international Noni Madueke, with reports Arsenal are monitoring his situation. Maresca said: 'Noni is our player. June 19 - Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola was moved to the 60-day injured list to accommodate a roster move Thursday. Infielder Buddy Kennedy had his contract selected from Triple-A Lehigh Valley after utility man Weston Wilson was optioned. Nola, 32, went on the injured list in May with a sprained right ankle. He then came away with a stress reaction in his rib cage during his recovery from the ankle issue. He is not eligible to return to the active roster until mid-July. Nola struggled this season, going 1-7 with a 6.16 ERA in nine starts. He gave up nine runs on 12 hits, both career highs, in 3 2/3 innings May 14 against the St. Louis Cardinals, and has allowed at least four earned runs in five of his starts. In 11 seasons with the Phillies, Nola is 105-86 with a 3.78 ERA in 277 starts. He finished as high as third in National League Cy Young Award voting in 2018, when he also made his lone All-Star Game appearance. Kennedy returns to the major leagues after playing eight games for the Phillies last season. In parts of three seasons for the Arizona Diamondbacks (2022-23), Detroit Tigers (2024) and Phillies, he has batted .203 with two home runs and 19 RBIs in 54 games. It's hard because I played for Flamengo's rival, so of course when I'm on the pitch, they're probably not going to say nice things about me. 'It's probably going to happen but it's football, it's normal for me, I'm looking forward to it. Against Flamengo, there's always an extra motivation. 'The pressure is great. I receive a lot of messages from Vasco fans on Instagram, there is also pressure from my friends, from my father, so I think I am under a lot of pressure regarding the result, but I hope everything goes well.
