Phillies add INF Buddy Kennedy; RHP Aaron Nola to 60-day IL
June 19 - Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola was moved to the 60-day injured list to accommodate a roster move Thursday.
Infielder Buddy Kennedy had his contract selected from Triple-A Lehigh Valley after utility man Weston Wilson was optioned.
Nola, 32, went on the injured list in May with a sprained right ankle. He then came away with a stress reaction in his rib cage during his recovery from the ankle issue. He is not eligible to return to the active roster until mid-July.
Nola struggled this season, going 1-7 with a 6.16 ERA in nine starts. He gave up nine runs on 12 hits, both career highs, in 3 2/3 innings May 14 against the St. Louis Cardinals, and has allowed at least four earned runs in five of his starts.
In 11 seasons with the Phillies, Nola is 105-86 with a 3.78 ERA in 277 starts. He finished as high as third in National League Cy Young Award voting in 2018, when he also made his lone All-Star Game appearance.
Kennedy returns to the major leagues after playing eight games for the Phillies last season. In parts of three seasons for the Arizona Diamondbacks (2022-23), Detroit Tigers (2024) and Phillies, he has batted .203 with two home runs and 19 RBIs in 54 games.
Wilson, 30, was batting .194 with one home run in 20 games this season and is a career .264 hitter with five home runs over 68 games in parts of the last three seasons with Philadelphia.

June 19 - Eugenio Suarez had four RBIs, Ryne Nelson allowed one hit in 5 2/3 innings and the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 9-5 on Thursday afternoon. Nelson (4-2) allowed one run and two walks while striking out four as the Diamondbacks salvaged the finale of a three-game series. Suarez had three hits, including a two-run homer and a two-run double, and Pavin Smith added a two-run homer among his three RBIs. Alejandro Kirk had two solo homers and an RBI single and Jonatan Clase also homered for the Blue Jays. Josh Naylor led off the second with a bloop single to center that extended his hit streak to nine games. Suarez homered to right center on an 0-1 fastball from Kevin Gausman (5-6). Kirk led off the bottom of the second with a homer to right center on a first-pitch fastball at the top of the strike zone to end an 0-for-18 drought. Arizona scored twice in the third on Suarez's two-out double to left center. It plated Ketel Martel, who singled, and Smith, who walked. Smith homered to center on a first-pitch fastball with one out in the fifth and Marte on first base. The inning continued when Naylor walked, Suarez singled and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Paxton Schultz replaced Gausman and allowed Randal Grichuk's sacrifice fly on a line drive to left. Gausman allowed seven runs, seven hits and three walks with four strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings. Arizona added two in the sixth against Schultz. Jose Herrera walked, Geraldo Perdomo singled, Marte hit an RBI double and Smith lined a sacrifice fly to center on Clase's superb catch. Juan Morillo replaced Nelson in the sixth with two outs and a runner on and retired Vladimir Guerrero Jr. on a pop to second. Jordan Spieth WDs from Travelers with neck/upper back injury
June 19 - Jordan Spieth headed for the clubhouse 12 holes into his opening round at the Travelers Championship on Thursday in Cromwell, Conn., withdrawing due to a neck/upper back injury. Not only does it mark Spieth's first withdrawal after 297 starts on the PGA Tour, he said it was his first time withdrawing "anywhere, at any level." Spieth told reporters that his neck began to lock up on him while he warmed up on the practice range Thursday. He wanted to gut through the situation, given the opportunity of a no-cut, $20 million signature event. But after carding five bogeys and no birdies through 12, Spieth hit his drive at No. 13 and let go of his club while wincing in pain. "I was just going to try to see if I could somehow get through at even," Spieth said. "It's a weird situation with an elevated event and no cut and important points and stuff. It's like, well, what's the downside if I can finish of just finishing even if it's ugly? And then I hit my tee shot on 13, and it legitimately really hurt. "I was walking off that tee, and I'm like, 'If it's even harder to turn, then I'm not going to be able to make a backswing that's even useful,' and that's what happened on the bunker shot. I was like -- it's only going to get worse to finish the round, and it's not worth it. I thought that was the time." Spieth said he doesn't know what caused the neck pain, and it could have been something as simple as sleeping wrong. The three-time major champion, who's risen from the 80s to No. 44 in the Official World Golf Ranking this season, was confident his game was tracking toward another victory very soon. "It's disappointing," he said. Rory McIlroy trails by two as Scottie Scheffler holds share of lead
Rory McIlroy made an impressive start to the Travelers Championship to sit two shots off the lead before world number one Scottie Scheffler later laid down a marker to defend his title in Connecticut. Masters champion McIlroy had finished tied for 19th at the US Open over a punishing Oakmont course – but ended the weekend on a positive following a three-under-par final round, which was the joint best of the day. The Northern Irishman – who saw his driver ruled as 'non-conforming' ahead of last month's PGA Championship before then missing the cut at the Canadian Open – had been looking to build some momentum at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell as focus turns towards the Open at Royal Portrush. World number two McIlroy landed a birdie at the second and then sank two more ahead of the turn at the final PGA Tour Signature Event of 2025. After picking up another couple, a further birdie at the 17th – from the best part of 30 feet having hit a fine recovery shot out of the rough and over the water onto the green – saw him finish six under with 64 to sit in a tie for second, two shots behind early clubhouse leader Austin Eckroat. American Eckroat hit a fine eight-under round, which included an eagle at the par-three 13th and a sixth birdie at the 18th. Scheffler was one of the late starters paired alongside newly-crowned US Open champion JJ Spaun – who unlike his playing partner endured a perhaps expected tough round to finish three-over following successive bogeys on the closing two holes. There was, though, no such trouble for Scheffler, who never looked back after three birdies from the opening four holes. The American – who landed a third major title with the PGA Championship crown at Quail Hollow during May – then picked up an eagle on the 13th and another birdie at 15, before a bogey at the 17th was the only blemish on his eight-under 62. England's Tommy Fleetwood carded a first round of 66 to sit in a group tied for sixth. Scotland's Robert MacIntyre, runner-up at Oakmont on Sunday, finished one over following a double-bogey six on the 17th. Jordan Spieth withdrew during his first round because of a neck/upper back injury. 'I may have just slept wrong and then something came along. I don't know what caused it,' he said. 'I think it was just a random one-off that unfortunately got worse and bad enough on a Thursday that I didn't feel like I could continue.'
