The Indian workers who have been invited to the presidential palace are: Pitchai Udaiyappan Subbiah, 47, and his co-workers Velmurugan Muthusamy, 27, Poomalai Saravanan, 28, Ganesan Veerasekar, 32, Bose Ajithkumar, 26, Narayanasamy Mayakrishnan, 25, and Sathapillai Rajendran, 56.

Pitchai Udaiyappan Subbiah and his colleagues were working at a PUB worksite near the One Amber condominium when the incident happened. The migrant workers heard a loud sound and rushed out of the site to see a massive sinkhole on Tanjong Katong Road South.
They also saw a black car which had fallen into the sinkhole and a woman trying to come out of it. A concrete component in the shaft "failed" at around 5.50 pm last Saturday, according to the national water agency. Around the same time, a sinkhole formed on the adjacent road, causing a car to fall in.
Subbiah then instructed three of his colleagues to throw a nylon rope to the woman and pull her out. One of them offered to go in and help her climb, but Subbiah opted for the rope, reasoning that the rescuer might not be able to get out either.
The woman was out of the sinkhole in three-five minutes.

The President's Office said, 'There will be opportunities for interaction between the guests - including the migrant workers – and the president during the Istana open house.'
The workers have been commended by the Ministry of Manpower's (MOM) Assurance, Care and Engagement (ACE) Group, a division that aims to support migrant workers' well-being.
The ACE Coin, given to each of the workers, is a "token of appreciation" presented to migrant worker volunteers and partners who have made meaningful contributions towards supporting and caring for the migrant worker community.

Ancient relics believed to be Lord Buddha's bones traced to US family, returned to India after 127 years
JAIPUR: A family based in the United States was allegedly preparing to sell ancient remains believed to be the bones of Lord Buddha through a major international auction house, Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat revealed on Saturday. The announcement was made during a public hearing at his residence in Jodhpur. The relics, once taken out of the country during British rule, were recently traced to a family in the United States that was allegedly preparing to sell them through an international auction house. Speaking at a public hearing at his residence in Jodhpur, Shekhawat said that the relics had appeared in a Sotheby's catalogue earlier this year, triggering swift intervention by the Indian government. 'We stopped the auction and informed them that the Government of India wanted to claim and officially receive the relics,' he said. The sacred remains were originally discovered in 1898 during British-led excavations at Piprahwa in the Kapilvastu region, present-day Uttar Pradesh. They were found inside a stone casket believed to belong to the Shakya clan—Lord Buddha's own family. The casket contained a crystal container with ashes said to be of Buddha, along with belongings of his nephew and other kin. British officer William Peppe, who led the excavation, took possession of a large portion of the relics, some of which later made their way overseas.

Mohan Babu University hosts 2nd convocation
Mohan Babu University (MBU) hosted its second annual convocation and the 14th Graduation Day of Sree Vidyanikethan Engineering College on the university campus in Tirupati on Saturday (August 2). Former Union Minister Praful Patel was the chief guest. Viswa Hindi Parishad President Yarlagadda Lakshmiprasad was also present. The event was presided over by MBU chancellor Mohan Babu, along with key university leaders Vishnu Manchu, Vinay Maheshwari and Nagaraj Ramrao. As many as 866 students from the MBU and 1,698 students from Sree Vidyanikethan Engineering College were awarded their degrees.
